John Kent is a master craftsmen and jack of all trades. John and team, rebuilt a composite material deck, while both strengthening the support structures and creating beautiful framing with cocktail rails and a wire cable system. In addition, John re-landscaped our hill steps, replaced floor moldings, cemented a patio, and corrected drainage issues!
Description of Work: Deck rebuild, concrete repair, landscaping.
We hired Handy Home Helpers to remodel both our, upstairs and downstairs, bathrooms. We could not be more pleased with the job they did for us. They gutted the bathrooms down to the studs, reconfigured the layout and rebuilt them back in a timely matter. John and Bree did all the work themselves. Demo, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting and tile work all done by just the two of them. It was amazing to watch them work. The speed, quality and detail of their work was superb. They were great at keeping us up to date on the progress of the jobs. They also kept the power and water disruptions down to a minimum, always giving us plenty of notice when they were going to shut them off. They took time to answer all our questions. We were also very pleased with the price they gave us on the jobs. We believe their caring and commitment to doing the best job possible made this a great experience for us. We plan to use Handy Home Helpers for all future projects on our home. We now have the beautiful bathrooms we have always dreamed of, thanks to Handy Home Helpers.

John and his crew did an absolutely beautiful job on our bathroom remodel. The house is 90 years old so there were many small problems that came up but they kept very close to the budget. We are very happy with the amount of value we got for our money. We will definitely call them again.

John Kent was one of the few who responded to my Angie's List inquiry and drove an hour to the house to triage the damage. He followed up timely with a detailed estimate that seemed reasonable for the work to be done. He also followed up after I had time to review the estimate. Because of timing with weather and our availability we have not yet moved forward but I am impressed with his professionalism, communication, and thoughtful assessment of the work to be done. We will follow up with him in the spring when the weather is more amenable.
Description of Work: Remove stone façade and repair water damage to frame of house
John and his crew did superb work. John provides a detailed estimate at the beginning of a project and communicates clearly and constantly during the work itself. We let him and his team make a lot of the design and aesthetic decisions about flooring, colors and fixtures, with unfailingly positive results. He is a detail person who makes sure the smallest pieces of a project are done exactly right. The final bill comes with a detailed accounting of every aspect of materials and labor.
Description of Work: We had two major projects. In one, we transformed an indoor hot tub room into an extra bedroom, constructing an outdoor deck and moving the hot tub outdoors, with a remodel of the room and rewiring of the tub. The second project was much larger and included the remodel of three rooms and sealing of the foundation and walls following extensive water damage.

John was great. He helped to get the window ordered at Lowes - even helped to get a less expensive, equivalent model. He and his crew showed up on time. They were clean, professional, courteous and truly interested in helping us to improve our house. The project took 2 days. They cleaned up when they were done, we paid our very reasonable bill via check and they were off. I would highly recommend John & Handy Home Helpers for your next project. We will use them again.
Description of Work: We were expanding the windows in our main living space from one 30x60 to a wall 90x60. The current window needed to be removed, a hole cut in the wall and then the new larger window added.
This multi task job needed a well qualified contractor who had a variety of skills from carpentry electricity, plumbing to tile setting to name a few. John Kent was definitely the right skilled person for this multiphase bathroom renovation project. He is knowledgeable, professional, conscientious and very well organized in performing each phase of this complete renovation. Besides planning well, he takes a lot of pride in his workmanship . He works very meticulous and is a craftsman in every project he undertakes. He undoubtedly wants his customers to be pleased with the work he does. John along with his female helper work very hard and well together. They are truly nice, pleasant, comfortable individuals to work with. They communicate well and keep the customer update about each phase. As a result we now have a new updated bathroom that we will enjoy for many years. Furthermore, we would do this whole project again especially knowing that Handy Home Helpers would be doing the job. They are the best very contractors available. Believe me you can't go wrong hiring them . We would never hesitate to hire them again or recommend them to our friends. Handy Home Helpers are the very best and you will be completely satisfied.
Description of Work: After contacting 6 different contractors for a complete renovation of our outdated bathroom, we settled on John Kent , Handy Home Helpers to do the job. The project entailed removing jet tub, shower enclosure, angular closet and adding a new sink vanities , plumbing fixtures and GFI outlets. This was not an easy project because it entail carpentry, electrical, plumbing , tiling and bathroom design skills.

They were very careful. The house had to be jacked up and an interior wall built. A tricky repair for sure. The crew did not smoke, play their music or swear. They showed up on time and got right to it. In repairing the band board etc., they used thicker gauge wood than what was there before. Even though they had to take down the porch railings and cut through the flagstone porch they put it all back together exactly as it had been.Great painting skills as well. John, the general contractor has a wealth of construction knowledge. I would recommend them for any type of work.

John was really a pleasure to do business with. He took a challenging building project (a loft in a cabin with multiple roof angles) and turned it into a space that was even better than what we had imagined. John was very responsive throughout the project, answering all our questions in an easy-to-understand manner. Also, he came when he said he was going to come. He took care to ensure that both the structural and the aesthetic aspects of the remodel were sound and went "above and beyond" by building us a beautiful and unique railing using wood from our property. We would definitely hire him again for future projects.

It took a few weeks longer for them to show up to get the job done but once started they completed it satisfactorily.
Living in GA - I found out in late February, my mother's house in NC - the pipe in the back bathroom under the sink had sprung a large leak and continued for nearly two weeks. Aside from the enormous water bill, I had to call Service Master to come in and clean everything up which included tearing out all the wood flooring, bathroom tile, some of the sheet rock and the bottom wood trim. Now for the rebuild - after obtaining estimates around the $8000 to $15,000 range which was way out of my budget - my last hope was Handy Home Helpers. I contacted John through Angie's List, asked him if he could go to the house, work up and estimate and can we not exceed $6000. At first, his estimate was about $2000 more than my budget but he did some finagling and worked up a deal exactly in my budget. John and his crew showed up on time and worked for about 8 days (we agreed this was not a rush job!) and the end result was nothing short of miraculous. The new laminate flooring and bathroom tile is beautiful. He installed a new vanity/sink, set the toilet, did all the sheet rock/mud work, paint and trimmed everything out - it's outstanding! He kept me in the loop with all the work and progress - sent pictures as well so I was informed the whole time. I am giving John Kent and his company extremely high praise for a job well done and would recommend to anyone needing any type of construction/remodeling project done. When time comes to remodel my house, I will gladly pay for him and his crew to travel to GA and do the work.

Took knockdown off ceilings. Grossly underestimated the cost of the project. Left it in rough shape, leaving me having to hire someone to finish their work and clean up their mess. Tons of dust in carpets and in duct work. While they put plastic up, it wasn't enough for the work done. Didn't deliver items paid for. Kept cash card to buy kitchen cabinets and didn't deliver them. We paid to have beadboard installed on porch ceiling and they put it up backwards - smooth side out. He told me it would be too busy with the beaded side out. I told him he wasn't to override my design. He was hired to put lattice under the porch for a finished look. He nailed it to the outside of the porch. Truly unlike anything I've ever seen. He has refused to correct either mistake. Left debris, food, trash at work sites. Hires people as day workers, even though I was assured he only used people he personally worked with for years. Was introduced to this company by someone who had used them 1x. After this experience and seeing the shoddy work they did, my friend has discontinued using them for his business. There are bad workers out there; however, this experience was not only bad because of the work but also the lack of professionalism. Took our money. Stole a cash card. Didn't complete contracted work. And what work they did wasn't up to industry standards. I chose 'fair' for the price because if the job had been done correctly, it would have been a fair price. The price for the work he did is lousy.

we always do our best to please all of our customers we did quite an extensive job in a large house sanding all this ceiling smooth which did accumulate a lot of dust that took several cleanings to clean the photographs of the finish ceilings show they were finished very nicely and smooth and painted very well we did not however leave in a job site in a disaster mess we did not steal anything i gave detail bid sheets and exampled of how they work would be done including the bead board ceiling and lattice work we do not ask for money up front ever miss [member name removed] had seen the work and paid for it and after our business relationship dissolved has became angry and accusing me of false allegations i have invoices that state exactly what we charge for and what were paid we did not charge for anything that was not finished there was some customers clients and contractors do not agree and a relationship cannot be formed in this case i showed miss [member name removed]how produces board and lattice work would be installed she agreed and decided to leave the country while she had a very large extensive project going on at her home we finished we could while she was gone the project were paid for and seen and later has decided she did not like the work and all i ask for to remedy this was that if she wanted the lattice and beed board installed in a totally different manner that i had showed her if she would pay for the extra material only we would correct it but she thought this was unfair when i bid to do it a certain way with certain materials and then she wants it done a different way with different materials after the job was complete. again we did not steal anything and we did not do anything other than what we had outline and described in our bid sheets i do however hire workers throughout the year to complete jobs these people are usually referred to me or i know them the man that she says had only been that one time has work for me for more than 4 years it is unfortunate that our business relationship has dissolved in the way it has. I have done nothing wrong and i have definitely not stole anything or overcharged we will always strive to be professional and do the best work that we can in a professional manner so we please our customers as we do not take money up front we never go to do a project we cannot do i know that we will be able to please and do a good job for our customers.

We definently do not like having or leaving customers unsatisfied, although during this job we did clean the site every work day, the completed project was left clean and ready for use. The shower was discussed several times throughout the project and the tile that the customer picked out and delivered to us was held up so they could see the finish product, the customer did not want trim tiles and thought the design would look good against our opinion and in the end after the tile was complete the customer did not like the square finished edges and blamed us for the outcome. It wasnt untill the tile was complete did the customer show us a picture of what they would like which did not match anything like we had or the tile they originally picked out. Although I did try to correct this with the customer to demo the shower for free and discount labor on the new install. I am disappointed about the outcome I wish we could have done more to please our customer we do try an give them what they want and we always aim to please and we do not mind correcting problems "given the opportunity" or warranting our work and projects. I did not get to take finished pictures of this bathroom remodel of the walls painted as the custmer requested he paint the walls, from the original estimate, we did install and complete a 3'x3' glass block window, tile floor, install sub flooring and tile underlayment, corrected plumbing and electric to code and installed neatly, Installed and assembled vanity and lighting, custom fit vanity for customer, install bath night lighting and vent fan, framed in door way to side room from bathroom installed drywall and finished smooth. Installed waines coat and trim as well as base trim. Sealed flooring and water proofed flooring.
I originally called John Kent about removing sliding glass doors in my parents condo and replacing them with French doors. While John was giving me a quote for that, I mentioned that I needed an interior painter so he gave me a quote on that as well. John and his crew showed up on time (they were actually waiting for me when I arrived). They got to work right away to determine the amount of work involved in removing and replacing the door frame where the sliding glass door was being replaced with French doors. It ended up being a lot more work than we originally thought it would be. John, very patiently, explained what needed to be done and the final cost was still well within what we originally thought it would be. He and his crew also painted the entire condo - various colors with accent walls and also had to remove wallpaper from the bathrooms. They were incredibly nice guys and even replaced the toilets with new ones that I bought and hauled the old ones away at no extra charge. I can go on and on about what an amazing job that John and his crew did but I am running out of time. I couldn't recommend them more! In fact, we have some other projects coming up (replacing exterior doors and installing lighting fixtures) and will be calling them as soon as I get my act together.
Description of Work: There were sliding glass doors between the living room and what is now a finished indoor sunroom. John and his crew removed the old sliding glass doors, replaced the header, rebuilt the door frame and installed the new French doors. He also painted the entire condo. The price for the amount of work that was performed was very reasonable.

I am very impressed with the head man, John. He is very intelligent and knowledgeable. He and his crew are hardworking and honest. They are friendly. I believe that John's assessment of the situation in identifying the problem and going about fixing it saved us a lot of money. The actual work is taking about 1-1/2 weeks. He kept us informed of costs and timetable for completion as best he could. I would recommend him to others and I plan to use them in the future to replace some 2-prong plugs with 3-prong plugs. I also plan to have them fix the area around some of the outside windows where they were installed in a faulty way causing some water damage issues as well.
Description of Work: Leaking water pipe under the house causing soil erosion and foundation issues. They diagnosed the problem correctly as being a leak in the water drainage pipe that ran under our house that was built in 1960 with a 2-inch galvanized pipe. They had to jackhammer the concrete floor in my daughter's bedroom, the laundry room and the bathroom in order to find the leak. The entire pipe was corroded. They replaced that with 3-inch PVC pipe and other up-to-date pipes, put in a new bathtub, put a new cement floor in. They are in the midst of the job currently. They plan to carpet, tile, replace drywall etc as needed.
