I have several large oak trees in my yard and didn't want to climb on the roof each year to clean the gutters. An unsolicited door-to-door salesman came to my house and presented a very convincing sales pitch for gutterguard gutters. He was a good salesman and even though my gut told me I shouldn't invest in new gutters I was persuaded to sign a contract. I wouldn't feel as bad about spending the money on gutters if I was satisfied with the product. They guaranteed debri wouldn't get in and clog the gutter and if it did, someone would come and clean them. One sales pitch used was - gutters would keep rainwater from falling close to the foundation of the house - which causes green mold/fungi to grow on the brick and adding to moisture problems. The problem is, debri that doesn't clog inside the gutter, clogs outside the gutter, prohibiting water from entering the gutters, thus falling to the ground next to the house anyway - which defeats the purpose of the gutters. The first few years I called to have the clogs removed and cleaned, the company did as promised. But then they said said they would not clean the gutters because the clog was on outside of the gutter. Clog inside, clog outside.....the gutters do not function as they are intended to. Also, now they need to be cleaned several times a year, instead of once a year, because they look so bad with the dirt and debri stuck on them.

We wanted an estimate. We signed up to get more info at a booth at the checkers game. I got a call saying we'd won a discount but with no details. Little did we know what we were in for with a simple request for an estimate. This experience reminded me of the door to door salesman days. You get them in your house and if you do, someone help you because it won't be easy to get them out. 1st issue - the estimator/salesman insisted that both husband and wife be home for the estimate. The appt was then 7 pm on a Thursday night. This was a warning sign because who in their right mind can tell me who has to be present at the house for an estimate? You don't trust a woman to make a decision? A salesman and salesman-in-training arrived. They started the small talk and continued for some time wanting to know as much as possible about us and our house. They finally went out to measure so that an estimate could be given. A half an hour later (was supposed to take 15 minutes), they returned ready to show us what the gutter guardian looks like. Did they show us immediately? No. It took 45 minutes of talking about how bad everyone else's products are and how great the gutter guardian product is before they showed us what it even looked like. All of this while we have two small children climbing all over us and it's clearly their bed time and way past 8 pm at this point. My husband asked for an estimate repeatedly. We were told that we had to agree that if price were not a factor, we would sign tonight. I said absolutely not. I'm not signing anything here and now. We must compare. That upset the salesman. He called his boss because we wouldn't agree to go with Gutter Guardian (before an estimate was provided). My husband had to anger the salesman to get him out of our house at 9:15. Before he stormed out and said he didn't do his job because we wouldn't sign a contract on the spot, he told us the estimate was $4700. We still never found out what our "discount" was supposed to be. I can only imagine what would happen if these people were to enter the home of someone like my mother who is too polite to kick them out. She'd likely get stuck in a contract just so she could get them to leave. Unbelievable!

Barry, the salesman, was at our house for two hours measuring everything. We explained to him that we had to pick our daughter up, but he still had another hour left to present to us. Since we couldn't wait, he ended up just leaving. He wasted our time, and they still never gave us an estimate.

I THOUGHT THAT THE WHOLE SALES TEAM WAS A TURN OFF. THEY HIGH BALL THE PRICE AND THEN TELL YOU THAT IF YOU BUY THAT DAY THEY WILL GIVE YOU A DISCOUNT FOR DIFFERENT PLOYS, SUCH AS AN ADVERTISING SIGN IN OUR LAWN. I THOUGHT THE SALES GUY THAT CAME OUT THE FIRST TIME WAS HIGH PRESSURE. MY WIFE MADE THE MISTAKE AND CALLED ANOTHER COMPANY THINKING THAT IT WAS A DIFFERENT ONE, BUT IT ENDED UP BEING THE SAME COMPANY. I TOLD HIM THAT I DID NOT WANT ANY HIGH BALL PRESSURING WITH DISCOUNT, BUT HE STILL PRECEDED AND DID IT ANY WAY. HE CALLED HIS SUPERVISOR AND THEY WENT THROUGH THIS ACT OF GETTING ME MULTIPLE DISCOUNTS. IT WAS STILL TO HIGH AND THEY THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE DOING ME A FAVOR. I WAS SO UPSET THAT I WALKED OUT OF THE ROOM ON THE SALES GUY. THE SUPERVISOR CALLED ME AN HOUR OR TWO AFTER THE SALESMAN LEFT AND WAS DOWN RIGHT NASTY.

My husband and I need new gutters. We wanted an estimate. The initial (door to door) representative scheduled a visit the next evening at 6:30 pm. He mentioned that "you shouldn't have to finance gutters". The representative came at 6:30 pm, and didn't leave our home until after 9:30 pm. It was an awful experience, and we have never felt more pressure to overpay for something in our lives; worse than buying a car. The representative, who only gave us her first name, was not the same person from the day before. We told her our budget was $3000. She then examined the house, and gave us an unwanted demonstration and speech about how all other gutters were not good 1 hour long. After, she finally gave us our first estimate at $8600. Wouldn't take no for an answer, and after we insisted that she leave, she said she had to use OUR phone to call her boss. Another canned "sell" took place as she stayed on the phone with "sir" for 30+ min. Wanted an answer NOW or nothing. So...nothing it was.
Description of Work: We scheduled a representative to simply come over, measure our 1700 square foot house for new gutters. Our meeting time was 6:30 on a Friday evening.

They had also installed a new asphalt roof on the house. This is a different story, because we have been having issues with leaking around areas that were flashed poorly. Getting them to come out and fix these items has been arduous at best; and we have been stood up on a number of scheduled repairs. We persevere, however, and they eventually come out and make the repairs. We are currently hassling them to repair a flashing issue at a low slope roof area, where they flashed the wall with a continuous piece of flashing instead of step flashing. It has been leaking for a couple of years because a large portion of the sheathing is completely rotted. We only discovered this because we completely gutted a room to renovate it. Imagine how angry we would have been if we had just remodeled the room and didn't find out about the leak until it ruined the ceiling!
Description of Work: We bought a house that had the Gutterguards installed 3 years ago. The warranty is great, because the slender leaves of the willow oak will clog these gutters. Just call them up and complain sternly and they will send someone out to clean your gutters - they have to! It's under warranty.

Saw at Spring Garden show. Set-up appointment. Received 3 unnecessary calls to ensure both my wife and I were going to be home at the time. Mr Davies was 15 minutes late, gave me some names to call, and measured the house for gutters. Then he brought his trainee in and spent 15 minutes using the "trained bear routines" to badger us into his pitch. After insulting us for not calling from his list, he talked for another 25 minutes about nothing. Despite being told four or five times that we had seen the presentation, and that I wanted to show my wife the gutter cap construction and get an estimate, he continued the "trained bear" routine, and added several insults about us not being professional, since we did not want to listen to his sales pitch. He finally got mad, got up and left. He was muttering something under his breath. Then I received a call from somebody in management. I explained what I wanted to get from the visit. They said that they did not fax that info. Very upset!
Description of Work: I wanted to obtain an estimate for a gutter cap based on the presentation I had seen at the Garden Show. I was not even able to get that. In fact, I wasted my day scheduling the supposed estimate and wasted my time trying to get it.

The sales person arrived on time with a trainee. He came in and made some small talk for a while, then we sat down and he began to go into his sales pitch. After about ten minutes he finally went outside to measure. After measuring he came back in and launched into an hour long presentation about his gutter topper product. He explained and demonstrated his product over and over again. His approach was very over the top and sounded like he was reading it off of a que card. He implied that the only reason people don't use his product is because they can't afford. He then later implied that I was one of those people because I refused his services. In fact, I refused to use him because, his product is only a topper product, and not a replacement system. After an hour and a half, he finally left and made several other derogatory comments on his way out the door. He obviously cared nothing about making the sale. He also left his trash in my driveway.
Description of Work: Tim Ballard came to my home and arrived promptly at our designated appointment time. They came to measure and give an estimate for labor and materials.

AFTER SALESPERSON CONCLUDED PRESENTATION, WOULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATE UNTIL I AGREED TO SIGN. HE ADMONISHED ME FOR NOT HAVING MY PARTNER PRESENT, AND CALLED HIS ''BOSS'' SEVERAL TIMES IN FRONT OF ME TO KEEP THE PRESSURE UP. WHEN I ASKED FOR A WRITTEN ESTIMATE, HE BASICALLY REFUSED AND NEVER ATTEMPTED TO COMPLETE THE SALE AFTER THAT. GOOD PRODUCT, REALLY CHEESY SALES TACTICS.
