I purchased a custom made powder coated wrought iron hand rail in August of 2006 from Tarheel Metal Craft in Garner, NC. We required the hand rail to be powder coated to prevent rust and Tarheel Metal Craft informed me that they can have that done by a 3rd party company. I paid Tarheel Metal Craft directly ($2,482.69) for the entire hand rail including material, powder coating and installation. Approximately 6 months after installation (February 2007) I noticed the hand rail started to develop rust and within a year and a half from that point the powder coat finish started to crack. The finish on the hand rail became so bad that I finally contacted Tarheel Metal Craft in April of 2009 and informed them of the issue with the hand rail. Tarheel Metal Craft said that the 3rd party company that performed the powder coating would re-powder coat the hand rail at no charge but Tarheel Metal Craft would need to charge for the removal and reinstallation of the hand rail. After ongoing discussions with Tarheel Metal Craft that they were responsible for the entire hand rail (including the removal and re-installation) since I paid them directly, they came to my house on May 6, 2009 to look at the hand rail and they acknowledged that the powder coating was defective and that they would return within a couple of weeks to remove the hand rail and have it re-powder coated and re-installed at no additional charge. Since that time I have tried on numerous occasions to get Tarheel Metal Craft to remove the hand rail for repairs but with no success. On December 4, 2009 I contacted Tarheel Metal Craft and they informed me that they will not remove and re-install the hand rail free of charge which contradicts what they told me on May 6, 2009. Tarheel Metal Craft will not provide free of charge the removal and re-installation of the custom made wrought iron hand rail to be re-powder coated.
