Smoke Alert Home Fire Safety

The tech was very polite and took the time to vacuum out the vent and made sure as to not track a mess from outside during his work. Did a very thorough job. The cost was relatively inexpensive compared to other providers.

Great, a lil rain delay, called on the way and never seemed rushed.

Upon inspection the vent was not up to code, and was thoroughly clogged. The tech was willing to clean, but said that since it was PVC, that it would clog up again much sooner than later. He tested the airflow before cleaning. It was moving 200cfm. He told me it should be moving closer to 1000-1200 cfm. He recommended a "proper" fix of gutting the whole vent plumbing, and replacing with aluminium ducting. After seeing the inside of the PVC duct and how clogged it was, and the fact that the dryer was really struggling to get the clothes dry, I opted to replace with aluminium. The $59 cleaning fee was applied to the repair job. It took him a couple of hours. Afterwards, he retested the flow. It's blowing 1400 cfm!! Dryer runs much shorter cycles now!! Not to mention I no longer have a potential fire hazard in the laundry room. Yeah it was more than I wanted to spend, but the peace of mind was worth the price!!

Josh was a bit late arriving due to the previous appointment taking much longer than anticipated. However, he completed my job in less than 2 hours so I was happy with that.

The technician, Steve, called prior to arrival. He cleaned the area around the dryer. He then cleaned the vent from both directions. Steve replaced the vent from the dryer to the wall. The entire process didn't take very long. In addition, he checked the smoke detectors. A professional job, well done, at a reasonable price. I would use again.

Fantastic - professional, friendly, and even fixed an unrelated problem with my dryer that had been bothering me for months! Cleaned dryer vent from both ends (hooked the vacuum up to one end and went through the other with long brush to get everything off the sides.) It was especially nice to have someone go over smoke alarms, fire extinguisher, etc. - just do a fire safety 101 check. I would absolutely recommend them and would use them again.

We were very happy with this service. He was very easy to talk with, informative and professional. He explained what he found and what it would take to repair our problem very thoroughly. Answered any and all questions we had. Will definitely call them again. Was a little worried when we saw they were in Garner NC and we are in Charllotte that it might take a while for them to get us on the list. They have a Charlotte rep and there was no wait time so didn't need to worry. Will have them back to clean our chimney.

Blake called to see if he could come earlier. My husband was here. He cleaned the connections for the fireplace and it works! We have lived here 4 years and so excited to actually be able to use it. He also showed my hubby about fire extinguishers, dryer vent, checked all the smoke detectors and recommend some to replace along with a fire escape ladder. We are going to order those shortly. My family said they smelled a slight burning smell while drying clothes, so we immediately stopped using the dryer. I figured it was probably the dryer vent since it had not been cleaned in a long time, so I called Smoke Alert. The gentleman from Smoke Alert was very professional and courteous. He quickly got to work and uncovered a massive issue. First of all, the dryer vent was plugged (as expected). BUT?the bigger issue was that the wall connection had completely separated from the vent pipe inside, so the dryer was blowing lint into the wall! He did a thorough inspection of the whole system and found that the duct had separated from the roof vent in the attic also. Outside of your house burning down, I don?t think it could get much worse than this. He thoroughly fixed everything. He not only cleaned the vent as originally agreed upon, but he replaced the wall outlet, reconnected the duct and the wall outlet, removed the lint from the interior wall, repaired the duct where it met the roof...and I elected to purchase a better flowing roof vent. Smoke Alert had a reasonable price for 2-3 hours of intensive work and multiple parts being replaced. The gentleman from Smoke Alert explained what he was doing, why he was doing it and was happy to answer any questions I had. Additionally, Smoke Alert does a home fire safety inspection for free after their services, which was as thorough as the service they just did and yielded useful information also. I can't say enough good things about these guys. I was truly impressed. I deal with a few home service companies each month and these guys are by far the best to work with?and the best I?ve worked with in a long time. I can't recommend enough getting your dryer vent inspected and cleaned as a routine thing. I will definitely go with Smoke Alert in the future for this service.

I wanted my chimney inspected because we had never used the gas fireplace since moving into our home. Just wanted assurance that everything was ok before firing it up when it gets colder. Two Smoke Alert representatives came out for the inspection. They were prompt and very professional. They quickly got to work and took special care not to let any soot or ashes get on anything inside the house. They provided guidance and instruction on how to best use my fireplace and after doing a home fire safety inspection, they even to the time to install a carbon monoxide alarm that I had purchased. I would highly recommend Smoke Alert!

Blake Crocker was our Tech. He did an outstanding job explaining why my dryer was no longer working properly. He explained that the new codes required non flex pipe and what was detailed in the renovation. He performed the work in a timely and efficient manner then explained everything he did. He allso checked me smoke detectors and Fire Extinguishers to see the date a if they were charged. I would highly recommend this company for the valuable service they perform. This company is great! Blake came to the house to clean my dryer vent and reattach a rigid vent. He was there for almost 2 hours. First he cleaned out the dryer vent, then he checked that I had working smoke and CO detectors, and gave me a fire safety lesson. He showed me how to use the fire escape ladders that I had never taken out of the box and also explained the difference between types of fire extinguishers and showed me how to use one. He told me that the type that I had in my kitchen would put out a kitchen fire but also destroy my cabinets. I wound up purchasing a more appropriate extinguisher for the kitchen from him for $25. And the next time they clean my dryer vent, they will change the batteries in my smoke detectors (up to 6 I think), included in the cost. I will recommend this company to my family and friends. Such a great experience and value.

I decided to buy this company's $99 deal from Angie's List instead of using my regular service provider. These people are incredible! In addition to inspecting and cleaning my chimney, the polite young man (a local firefighter) inspected all my smoke detectors and fire extinguishers for free. He found several expired and out-of-date issues and was able to resolve them for me on the spot with no "salesman pressure" involved. He did a great job teaching me about different kinds of fires and fire extinguishers. I like the fact that the company is owned by a firefighter and employs firefighters. He was also really nice to my puppy who is suspicious of strangers. I will definitely be calling them next year, and I plan to have them clean my dryer vent as well.

I mentioned some of that above but I'll continue with the details here. I was concerned about how hot my dryer got on medium.. Lonnie expplained why that was happening and then after checking the vent said that it looked fine. He checked the two fire extinguisers I had in the laundry closet and noted that one of them was very old and no longer useful, so he removed that one. The other one was fine, he said and put that one back on the shelf. He checked my smoke alarm and reminded me to check it and change the batteries when the time changes twice a year.which I hadn't been doing. He also showed me how to change the battery and what kind of battery I should use. When he was done, we spent a little time chatting about my cats and that he had one (or two?) too. I schedule these fire safety visits every years and would be happy for Smoke Alert and Lonnie come back to do that.

The process was very clean inside the house and done quickly. The alarms that were replaced were out of date and need to be replaced. They explained the problem and their solution was cheaper then me doing the work myself.

It was an extremely positive transaction. Will use them again every year to inspect and clean the wood burning fireplace, insert and chimney. Showed us the results of the chimney sweep. Lots of black crystal type residue that could catch on fire. Very professional and helpful. Team is make up of firemen and they know their business. We'll all sleep better this winter!
