Went very well. I originally purchased a Angie's list coupon for a dryer vent cleaning. Keith came to my house and was unable to clean it due to the way the original vent had been located in my crawlspace and exiting out under my deck. He and the owner Chris charged nothing for this visit and gave me the option of getting a refund of my coupon or applying the discount to replacing the dryer venting. Since this venting was close to 30 years old and I'm sure was never cleaned in that time, I was worried about its fire danger and replaced it. They did a great job and I saw the discarded vent (full of lint) and I'm glad I did it. In both visits, Keith gave me excellent advice on fire hazards and alarms. I would definitely use them again.

The guys were very professional and very clearly communicated what they proposed to do and the related costs. We've had quite a few companies perform services at our house this year and Smoke Alert was the most professional.

Very professional and knowledgeable. They had well working equipment that seemed suited for the job. Informed me of choices I had that would make my home safer. Reasonable prices made it possible for me to make all the improvements they recommended.

They came, they sawed, they conquered - they made me a nice new safe vent up through the roof which is currently happily venting the lint where it's supposed to go. Dryer vents that go through the roof require special vent covers and just the right amount of distance to work properly, and they used a good quality one and made sure of the distance, responding to all of my questions with confidence and accurate information. They cleaned up the mess that was made and were careful when moving the dryer, and were good about quickly rescheduling when the nasty weather made it necessary to cancel the initial appointment. I would happily hire them again, and have in fact recommended them to a colleague who is having a similar problem with their dryer vent.

It turned out great! There were no additional charges beyond the big deal amount. The best part was they came, did the job and it was over and done with. So just very simple and easy.

Service areas were left clean and debris free.

The Tech that came out was pleasant and on time and made recomendations. The vent hose was much too long for the dryer and he made the conection with a much shorter run that made me feel safer about the operation of the dryer. It also saved some valable space in the laundry room. I would use them again in the future if needed!!

Keith did an excellent job and was very informative about smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. I also got a good explanation about the different types of fire extinguishers and the correct way to use them. And the fact that he was a firefighter gave him a lot of credibility. Great experience!

Will recommend them and use them again. The weather was awful but it didn't slow Keith down. Keith was professional and efficient. He shared a lot of safety information and gave explanations for changes in codes. Great service and we expect that the improved venting will make drying faster, saving money and the dryer.

Chris Tomlin's SmokeAlert service was excellent. We had an old vent, made of material that is flammable and was totally full. He climbed onto our roof where the exit vent was located and took a picture. The picture showed that the outside vent was so clogged the material had spilled out of the vent and surrounded it. After cleaning, he replaced our old vent with a new metallic vent that will not catch fire. Mr. Tomlin was very professional and thoroughly explained the process of the dryer vent. In addition, he gave us instructions on how to adequately use our new fire extinguisher. We were impressed with his knowledge and his friendliness. We highly recommend SmokeAlert and asked for his business cards, so we could give them to our neighbors. Five Oaks has a website and I will share this information.

Keith was able to get the efficiency value of my dryer vent from 9 up to 17 after cleaning. He also replaced a couple of parts at no charge. He explained how my fire extinguisher and smoke alarms worked and I also decided to purchase a carbon monoxide detector from him. The service was excellent and they went above and beyond my expectations. I would definitely recommend them to other members.

I purchased this service from a $59 special on Angie's list, they are normally $79. Service was very good and the tech was very professional. Turns out my vent had come apart under the house, the tech fixed it up at no extra cost. I am having them come back to do some upgrades to the vent system and plan to have them back every couple years.

This is an excellent company and Keith was very punctual, knowledgeable and really great at answering questions.

I was extremely pleased with the service provided and would highly recommend this company. The technician stayed for a very long time and answered many questions that I had.

Smoke Alert showed up on time and did a fabulous job. First he showed me using a mini-butane torch how quickly my current dryer hose would catch fire if exposed to a lint build-up - and replaced it with a hose that is non-flammable and up to current code. Charged $20 which is material cost. He then ran his vacuum / machine from my dryer all the way through the house to outside termination point and pulled out built-up lint, which is a fire hazard. He was professional, courteous, and incredibly knowledgeable (as well as patient with all of my questions). He took the time to also explain how i could improve my smoke alarms if I chose to, but was not pushy at all with try to up-sell me anything and only did so after I asked for recommendations. Gave us a new fire extinguisher on top of it all and explained how to keep them functioning properly and where to best store. Very friendly I would highly recommend!

The fireman employed part-time by the company was absolutely professional and brought in with him the most powerful vacuum I have ever seen. It had two motors and required two cords. He moved the dryer, demonstrated how the tubing in place was not fire resistant, and sold me a new fire resistant tube for $20. He worked from the vent outside the house and attached the vacuum to the vent coming out in the laundry room. You could see the hose move when accumulated lint was sucked through. Our dryer now dries in the expected time cycle and we no longer have any blow back lint. He also explained how a typical dryer cycle exhausts almost 2 gallons of water and recommended a cycle without laundry to dry and blow out accumulated wet lint in the vent. All in all I am very satisfied and plan to call on them again in 3 years. .

Arrived on time, was able to provide additional services that were needed. Very professional. Provided pictures of my crawl space and the fire hazards I had due to lint build up, and what was needed to correct the problem and bring my older house up to current code.

They cleaned out the dryer vent, but actually found that it was clogged inside the dryer. They seem to be quite thorough. Looked at smoke detectors, discussed the different types of fire extinguishers. I would use them again.

They arrived on time as scheduled, were very friendly and gave me lots of information/tips as they worked. They had equipment that measured air flow. The invoice was sent directly to my email and it is very detailed, item by item, which I prefer. I should have had this done years ago. It made a HUGH difference in my dryer's efficiency ? reduced time by 50%. Smoke Alert is a company I will use again and recommend to others.

This will be my second year using Smoke Alert with Chris Tomlin. I initially called him because I was finishing my Attic, and the electrician was befuddled by the smoke alarms already in place. The house is a pre-wired, connected together in a series design. However since I was doing an upgrade to my Attic, the Town of Cary stated that the new regulations state that I now have to upgrade the house so that each floor has at least one Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector per floor. Along with the typical smoke alarms in the previously pre-wired locations. I went shopping online, and at the local Lowes/Home Depot for a replacement, since my previous detectors were obsolete, and actually discontinued. I also had trouble finding connnectors that were backward compatible. It was a plan nightmare. While Googling for this data, I located Smoke Alert, and I called up the company for advice. Just plain dumb luck, I found out the company was actually based in the Triangle area, and Chris Tomlin, just said "I can just drive by the house and take a quick look at the setup for free". He immediately saw the setup and made quick recommendations. The most important take away from this review. >>>HE IS AN ACTUAL, EMPLOYED FIRE FIGHTER<<< He noticed my concerns regarding backward compatibility, and quickly went to the van and pulled out all the product I needed. At first I was thinking, "oh this is going to be expensive". But his pricing was cheaper than on Amazon.com, plus he installed them for free. I now have modern smoke detectors. We installed both an Ionization and Photoelectronic smoke detectors, along with CO detectors. Many were dual units. I feel quite happy with the setup. Plus we passed the Attic inspection with no problems what so ever. Chris later also asked to look at the Fire Extinguishers we had. He noticed at least one of them was expired, while also explaining that the Extinguishers I had were of different "Classifications" and that an electrical fire, and a chemical and/or food/grease fire were all different. He also recommended that I keep an extinguisher in my Master Bedroom, in case a fire broke out in the night and I needed to fight my way to my kids room, or down the stairs. It makes sense, but it never occured to me. All these items were also sold to me by Smoke Alert. And yes I checked pricing on these items too, and they were cheaper than the set available at Costco and Sams Club. After going over the installation, he noticed that my kids were at home at the time, and mentioned if he should just go over and perform a fire drill at home. It was a brilliant idea, especially since Chris is an actual firefighter. So my kids pretended to be in bed, and Chris blasted the Smoke alarms through the house. He went over the "is the door hot test?" We did the test twice, and he watched as my kids crawled down the stairs and to a "safe meeting spot" outside. Very cool. After years of drilling my kids, I realized it took an actual Firefighter to make this sink in to their brain's permanently. So now, every year, I have Chris come by to clean the dryer vent, change the batteries, check the extinguishers, have a quick look around for anything that doesn't look fire safe, and of course the annual fire drill with my kids. For $79, I will say this is great piece of mind, and all for about the same price of going out for drinks and dinner with friends. If you have young kids at home, Smoke Alert is a priceless service for home. Oh and if you have baby seat installation or other baby house safety issues, its tough to beat an actual Firefighter come to your house and do a home safety audit. I think I am smart and well educated, but it was still a great idea to get a professional viewpoint.

The work was done promptly and neatly. We purchased the recommended items at a price less than we would have paid at a home center and he installed everything. We were completely satisfied with this professional fireman who provides an excellent service. We just needed a dryer vent cleaned but received valuable information and service that could potentially have saved us from a fire in our home. I would not hesitate to recommend him to a friend or neighbor.
