Smoke Alert Home Fire Safety

Went very well. Called ahead and arrived early. Worked quickly through issue (that was much more work than a standard cleaning job) and provided fire safety review and tips as well. I thought price was very reasonable given time, frustration, and materials involved.

Smoke Alert Home Fire Safety called and scheduled the visit based on client's availability, called just prior to the visit, and arrived on the agreed time. The fireplace had not been used in several years due to the age of the house and it was unknown if a chimney sweep had ever been done. Keith the Lead Technician / Field Supervisor used a camera to show the amount of build up in the chimney. The furniture in the room was covered by Keith and the chimney sweep was done without any soot / dust entering the home. Keith took the time to demonstrate how the fireplace tool could be used to open / close the damper which had been a problem. Letting me actually do the process was very helpful. The dryer vent was inspected, which had not been properly vented since the house was built. There was a build up of lint in the dryer pipe. Keith installed a dryer vent directly from the dryer to the outside of the house. This ensured there will not be a need in the future to have the dryer vent cleaned / inspected. An inspection of the smoke detectors was completed and new ones installed and placed appropriately as indicated. Keith inspected the home fire extinguisher which had expired several years before. He demonstrated how to use a fire extinguisher, what type of fires it could safely be used on, and how to dispose of the expired extinguisher. Information was given on what type of replacement extinguisher would work best based on my needs and where it could be purchased. Keith provided information in a format a lay person could understand.There was never at anytime pressure to purchase, repair, or replace any items, in fact cost saving information was provided. The fireplace can now be used without concern, the issue of a possible dryer fire has been eliminated, and fire safety is in place and understood. The service guy was way late, but called before the appointment time. I understood this and appreciated the phone call. When he did arrive, he brought in the equipment needed to clean the vent line. He made a quick repair on a section of the vent. He finished up and left the area cleaner than it was before he began. Definitely would recommend this service. They only use active Firemen as their employees. Great service, well worth the money.

Jonathan was very professional and personable and explained what he was going to do and answered all my questions. Tested air flow before and after the cleaning and there was a huge difference. He offered a few other services and products but there was no pressure to buy at all. I did purchase a fire extinguisher and had him replace the transition duct and exterior guard for an additional $90.00.

They were terrific. They were polite, on time and conscientious.

Not only did he check the flue, he took pictures of it, also checked carbon monoxide and smoke alarms, dryer exhaust, water heater venting, fire extinguisher Company is run by current fire department employees who do this part time. He called to see if it would be OK to come a little early. Inspected the chimney (which is what the big deal included) also checked other fire safety issues. Found one improperly installed smoke alarm, said they sold them, but did not try to influence/pressure me to buy from them. Thorough to the point that when he second floor sleeping quarters he asked if we had an escape ladder (we do). Found our kitchen fire extinguisher is an ABC type, recommended a BC type as the A fire extinguisher has an adhesive to help the extinguisher powder stick to burning wood -- but the powder is difficult to remove from the stove/kitchen area. Now we have two extinguishers. Pleasant and very complete fire safety review.

He called about 20 minutes before the appointment time to let me know he was on his way. He was very professional and personable. He explained how the fire extinguisher worked and told me to tap it on the bottom each month so the powder wouldn't compact. He worked quickly and was great with my dog who wanted to help.

Great service. The technician, Steve called around the beginning of the service window saying he was running about 15 minutes late. I appreciated the call and felt we were off to a good start. Once he arrived he was very professional, courteous, and expressed a willingness to answer any questions about the cleaning process and fire safety. At no point did I feel pressured to purchase anything additional, so I did! I actually got two new smoke detectors installed as well as a new rigid transition from the dryer to the vent upon his recommendation. He made some other good recommendation I'll likely be following in the future. All in all very good experience. Perhaps, a little more pricey than some providers, but excellent service. I will definitely use them again.

They guy was a fireman and everything went great! He not only cleared the clog in the vent duct system but fixed the broken duct cover on the outside of the house. He also gave me many tips on how to improve the safety of our home. He pointed out one of our fire extinguishers had expired. He also told me to get a different type of fire extinguisher for the kitchen that wouldn't ruin everything if I ever needed to put out a fire on the stove top. He also told me about better smoke detectors than we had at that time. In fact, ours would not meet current code. So, if we ever sold the home we would need to replace them. I figure, why wait? It will have to be done someday anyway so may as well replace them now and be safer in the time being. The new smoke detectors communicate with each other wirelessly. So, if a smoke detector goes off on the first floor the detectors on the second floor sound off as well. Or, if a fire starts in a kids bedroom, the alarm will sound in the parents bedroom. I had no idea they had these better alarms. He said they could install them for $45/each. I went to Home Depot and they sold these for $48 each (and I'd have to install them myself). So, I called Smoke Alert again, and had them come out and replace all our smoke detectors since it would be cheaper than doing it myself. Our detectors were 15 years old anyway. This time they sent out two guys - both firemen. They did a great job installing the new detectors and were super fast too. I highly recommend these guys!

Great job. Showed up on time (actually a little early), on a Sunday morning no less (love service providers with weekend appointments!). Believe the technician did a thorough job, and after cleaning the vents he checked to make sure I had adequate fire extinguishers (and that the ones I had were still good). Will definitely use them again!

Everything went very well. The technician was on time (even called first to see if an earlier time would be better for me, which it definitely was), had clear identification, was knowledgeable, efficient, and professional.

It went great! I just expected to have the dryer vent cleaned but was very happy to have a fire safety check. I was given lots of information and there was no pressure to purchase the new products but the price was right and installation was free. I will definately use this company again. Always appreciate good service and am happy to support those who serve as our fire fighters!

They did a fantastic job, found and corrected improperly installed vent pipe. Professional, on time, went above and beyond!

Everything was done professionally and efficiently. Work was documented by photos of areas we could not see. Tom did an excellent job.

It went fine. He explained to me what the heat levels should be at, and recommend that this be done every year. He gave me recommendations on other things, which was nice because he didn't have to do that.
