Smoke Alert Home Fire Safety

Smoke Alert was prompt regarding scheduling an appointment. Courtesy and professional. I had initially only purchased the dryer vent cleaning, but decided to have them also replace my old smoke detectors as well as an old fire extinguisher. I would definitely use them again as well as recommend them.

We got a thorough and knowledgeable review of the chimney (which was fine, save having a wasp nest in it), and a helpful discussion of home fire safety to boot.

These guys know their stuff. I really like the Fire Inspection report that was left behind. I will use them again.

It was fine. He used an extension to clean up both sides. He didn't push the washing machine back to where it belonged. I was not happy with the way he left my room. Our machines are very heavy and he left them both out of balance. The guy was nice, he was a younger kid.

It went great. I read the reviews and they pretty much did what I was looking for them to do. They're pretty quick and responsive.

These guys were awesome -- extremely professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and clean. There was no hard sell, no pressure, no bait-and-switch, and no outlandish markups. They called ahead and explained they were 10 minutes ahead of schedule and wanted to know if it was okay to come over a bit early. We got honest, no-nonsense advice about potential hazards, and how to correct them. They explained where things weren't "up to current code" but didn't use that as leverage to up-sell their products or services -- explaining instead that it didn't mean we were obligated to bring it "up to code"... We heard a lot of "if it were my house, here's what I'd do" -- and the suggestions were perfectly reasonable. Their inspection was very thorough -- much more so than the previous chimney sweep service we used. They even commented on the construction quality of the fireplace and chimney -- why it was well-made. They found evidence of some minor cracking at the top of the chimney, but said "let's just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get worse -- we don't need to repair it at this point." They looked carefully at dates for things like smoke and CO detectors, as well as on fire extinguishers. Two of the smoke detectors were more than 10 years old, so they recommended replacing them with newer technology. Their cost to replace was only a couple dollars more than if I'd bought those items at the home center, and they did all the installation, set-up, linking, and testing work. They explained how to maintain the fire extinguishers, too -- occasionally tapping the cylinders of dry chemical units, for example. They recommended specific kinds of extinguishers for different areas of the house based on the damage that the chemicals themselves can do when released to extinguish a fire. This part was fantastic: They sat down with the kids and talked to them about fire safety and checked to be sure they knew what to do and where to go. They covered everything from feeling the door to whether or not to open the window, including staying low, making noise, banging on doors, and getting to the meeting place. They explained what firefighters look for first when they pull up to a house, and how to get noticed if they're stuck. Then the kids got into their rooms and into bed, and they did a live drill with the new smoke detectors they'd just installed. They detailed the responsibilities of each child, based on his or her location in the house. They even suggested they "remind mom and dad to change the smoke detector batteries at the end of each school year." We were totally impressed, and we'd recommend this company to anyone.

They did a great job, including removing a giant squirrel nest - which was more like an squirrel apartment complex.

After some initial confusion with communication, we got everything scheduled. I was out of town but my wife raved about the quality of the service and the professionalism of the technician. Would definites use again and would highly recommend to anyone needing dryer vents clean. Such an easy thing to ignore but such an important thing to have done.

Clean, punctual, felt evaluation and recommendations were honest, safety recommendations were offered but not pressured. Identified that my ventless gas logs were not performing well and were a CO safety hazard to my family. Glad that I had them out. Thanks,

Overall it was great. They called prior to the appointment to let us know they were running ahead of schedule and my husband was able to meet them at our home. There was an additional fee due to our vent exiting the roof, but they were upfront about that not only in the listing of the deal but prior to performing the work. After cleaning the dryer vent they did a safety inspection of our home. My husband was very impressed with this and learned several new things. He did not feel pressured to buy any additional products, but we are considering upgrading our smoke detectors and increasing the number of them in our home as a result. They summarized their findings on a easy to understand checklist so that we can take our time to decide what suggestions to implement.

It went great both times. Like I said these guys are amazing! They go above and beyond what you expect them to do. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them to anyone.

I could have gone out and purchased my own smoke alarms and installed but felt the reasonable cost of $45 each was worth it. They are always so knowledgeable and courteous. I will continue to use their service yearly

Tom arrived on time and was very professional. He cleaned the dryer vents and then checked all of our smoke detectors. He also checked our gas fireplace and fire extinguishers. I am very pleased with the service and will definitely use them again. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Josh was courteous, pleasant, friendly, professional, and very informative. He explained the dryer exhaust velocoity number you want as a reading for the dryer output. Went over checklist items, such as smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguisher's and their differences as it pertains to their use in different rooms. I definitely recommend this company!

The gentlemen who were very prompt and professional. They took time to check my fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Techs arrived on time; focused on the tasks at hand; cleaned up afterward. Angies List special price was $59; charged us another $20 for repairs (taping gaps in vent ducts) in the crawl space I hope it's obvious that I did not go under the house into the crawl space to verify their work. With that caveat in mind, I would use them again; I found the techs were quite easy to work with

I purchased the Angies List Big Deal. They scheduled and performed the service. The guy called me and said that all smoke alarms have to be replaced and that they can do it for a price. I declined it. Later, I received an email with an invoice for $24.95 for 3rd Story Dryer Vent Cleaning. I emailed them asking what this was since I never authorized this service. After a bit of a delay, they refunded the money. They called me and were very courteous and professional in ensuring that I was satisfied with the service.

Super nice! Johathan called me right away to schedule the appointment-for the following day. The technician that came out was very helpful and did the work quickly without any issues. He had some great advice during the fire safety inspection. Everything was easy and went perfect.

Overall I am happy with the service. They did not come on time for the first scheduled appointment, so we had to reschedule. The second time everything went fine with scheduling. I had paid for a chimney inspection ($49 on an Angie's List discount), but the person who came out mistakenly thought I had paid for an inspection and cleaning. He didn't realize until later in the day what had happened, and he sent me a very polite note explaining the mix-up. He let me know what the service should have cost but said that payment was optional since it was his mistake (an additional $100). I paid him anyway, as I did need the cleaning and had expected to upgrade to that service after the inspection. Slight misunderstanding, but we ended up where I expected to be anyway. They also did a fire hazard inspection and gave me a quote for an issue that I have with the chimney that will need to be fixed before next winter. They gave me a couple of different options and explained the pros and cons and pricing of each remedy. I intend to have them back for the work in late summer. I should add, while he was in the house cleaning the chimney he took great care to clean up after himself and left no mess at all, which I appreciated. It's a dirty job.
