Second she sends the load with one of the best drivers, Mr. Humphrey’s. Third, I asked Mr. Humphrey’s if he could dump the No. 57 stone at the top of my driveway in front of my garage, next to my stacked timbers, but not in my garage and not in front of Mrs. Scott’s garage. Mr. Humphrey’s says, “If you have a dime, place it where you want the gravel and I’ll return a nickel. In front of my garage is a foot of distance. Not one stone in my garage and the entire 3 tons piled within 6” of garage door! I had to get a picture of this marksman, Mr. Humphrey’s and you see it here. And then Mr. Humphrey’s surveys my landscape project and gives me some priceless tips on how to proceed."

Loam (soil composed of sand, silt, and clay) costs about $17 per cubic yard. Standard screened topsoil costs about $20 per cubic yard. The type of topsoil you need depends on your landscaping plans.
Topsoil should go down first. If the topsoil is next to your house, make sure the grade slopes away from the house to keep water from pooling against your foundation and possibly leaking into your basement or crawl space. Don’t cover your decorative landscape mulch with topsoil as that defeats the purpose of laying down the mulch.
