Mr. Hicks gave us the impression that he, himself, would be doing the work. "I can start" on a particular day, and "I'll be there" at a certain time. Instead, Mr. Hicks hired a single subcontracting worker to do the job, likely on a "per job" basis, but clearly didn't provide the worker enough time to do the job as well as it should be done. Thin-set mortar on the substrate and waterproofing were not allowed to dry before tiling began. Wall studs were not shimmed to provide a level surface for wall tile. Grout was not allowed to set before cleaning. Mr. Hicks appeared at the beginning of the first day to provide some materials to the worker, and at the conclusion to collect a check. While the worker was certainly skilled and personable, the job required at least another day to complete the tasks well. We learned a lesson: For any future work, we'll ask "Who will be doing the work?" We'd prefer to hire, evaluate, and pay the person who actually does the work--not a contractor who provides a bid and collects the fee, but does none of the work. We wouldn't use A Touch of Tile again. We certainly wouldn't recommend Mr. Hicks, primarily because he himself didn't do the work--we have no way of evaluating the quality of his work.
Description of Work: We hired A Touch of Tile (Mr. Wayne Hicks) to install tile for the entire floor and for a tub surround in a 5' x 10' bathroom.

We recently remodeled our kitchen and needed a backsplash installed to finish it off. We found tile we liked at Lowe's and just needed someone to install it. We got multiple estimates that ranged widely. Wayne was recommended by another contractor we used. After talking to him and getting his very reasonable estimate, we decided to go wth him. We are very happy we did. He and Sergio showed up on time and they did a fantastic job on our backsplash. The tile we chose was very thin, so the border we bought didn't fit right. Sergio made a border out of extra tiles and it looks great. They started at about 8:30 and finished by 3:00. They took great care to cover our hardwoods with blankets and moved our range very carefully. They also cleaned up after they finished. I would not hesitate use Wayne again.
Description of Work: We needed a tile backsplash installed in our kitchen.
