YOUNG'S WELDING & MACHINE SVC

I am a regular "Joe", not a business, I was looking for a machine shop to drill a 1" hole and press a 2X3X1" sleeve in two 36" and two 42" lengths of 2X3X1/4" rectangular steel to replace the swing arms to hold disc gangs on an old disc harrow I'm restoring. That is drilling 4 holes, and pressing 4 sleeves only. I provided the metal and sleeves. I thought I would go with a local small business to support the local community. I visited the shop and Mr. Young and I talked a lot. The people are very nice people. I had confidence in the shop that maybe I could use them for future work and they took small jobs. I felt so trusting that they would treat me right, until it came to what I owed. The work was done in a couple of days and I went to pick it up. I took $100.00 expecting the job to be from $60 to $80. When I was told $165.00, I almost fell out of the chair. I informed Mr. Young that I really felt that was severely over priced and I only brought $100 expecting less than that. We negotiated for a short time and he agreed to $125, which I respectfully let him know I felt was extremely high. I will not recommend him due to the fact that they took advantage of me after trusting them in doing this work. Yes I should have asked the price to start with, but I didn't. If you use Youngs Welding and Machine Shop in Fayetteville, NC, don't be like me and fall for their friendliness, but insist on a quote prior to the work and negotiate if you have too. I paid $133.00 for the metal at Hercules Steel and thought that was fair with the costs of steel today. The total for these new arms are now $258.00. I paid $175 for the disc harrow..........
