+ -1 moreThe owner came out and gave an estimate for the porch. Was the first company of 4 that I called who returned my call. Rick, the owner gave us an agreed upon date of service. He was able to start a few days before he initially claimed, which was great because we wanted it replaced ASAP. Rick came out to perform the work with a coworker and finished in 3 days. The end result was amazing quality, we were highly satisfied. It was an insurance claim so we did not have to pay out of pocket. We just recently painted the porch and is now fit to last for decades. I would highly recommend Cape Fear Deck and Fence to anyone with home improvement needs.

+ 0 moreEverything went great! I?m not afraid to use those stairs any more. We were so happy with the job that we had them make other repairs while they were there. We plan on having them do much more work in the future.
Description of Work: We had the back steps and landing removed from the screened porch on the second floor. The stairs were dangerously scary. Our plan was to have a landing at the top, stairs half way down, another landing with the stairs turning and continuing down. They made some recommendations that would make the job cheaper and more ascetically pleasing.

Rick explained clearly the rationale for his choice of materials used and how his construction methods differed (better, in his opinion) from those of his competitors. I got five estimates, and Rick's was 2nd highest, but I believe I got good value for the price I paid. I've built fences myself, and I looked closely at several of the other fences installed in our subdivision, Patriot Park, but I have yet to find one that exceeds ours in quality and workmanship.

He showed up when promised, gave us a solid estimate and completed the work in a timely manner despite several days of bad weather. The job required him to work in my neighbors yard and after he was finished they commented about how careful and respectful he was of their property. + 1 more/Rick and his crew removed unsightly and dangerous deck and back stoop/steps from back of my home and replaced with a beautiful and very well built 8' x 30' deck and metal roof - essentially a porch! - with steps near the sliding door and the utility room door. The porch has railing all around. The steps are safe and comfortable and the railing is safe and beautiful. Having this porch has been a God-send this winter! We are looking forward to good times on this porch for years to come. Rick and his crew are extremely professional, punctual, great to work with, and honest! Rick has provided advice about how and when to seal/stain the wood. It has to cure first. I will be calling on Cape Fear Deck and Fence again soon!

Not only did they install a high quality fence, they also made some minor repairs that they noticed for my porch with the leftover material. I will be contacting this company again for future work.

I'm thankful for the work his crew did. I couldn't stand to go outside, because it angered me and now I can't wait to go out every day and enjoy my porch.

+ -1 moreHe was wonderful and he is going to do some work for us. He was the only one that called me back and he was the only one that came out and his estimate was amazing. He seemed very professional. Out of all the companies that I got from Angie's List, he is the only one that had the courtesy to call me back. He was really busy and he said once things slowed down he would come out. He was the second contractor that came out, because I had to tell the first contractor to leave, because his work was horrendous. He was very professional and you could tell that he was very passionate about what he did. There was nothing shady about him. I was really pleased with him. He set up a time and he showed up on time.
Description of Work: Cape Fear Deck & Fence gave us a quote. He is going to replace our messed up fence and put lattice around the shed that we have in our backyard.

We are very happy with our new deck and building and are so glad that we found Cape Fear Deck and Fence on Angie's List. His long list of "A" were very well deserved. We will call him again for any other work needed on our home.
Description of Work: Rick and his crew built a deck extension and a two-tier pergola over the decks. He also refinished our existing deck with deck restore. He stained the new deck and pergolas. He also built a two-story storage building for us that is so well-built, I think we could live in it if necessary. His work is meticulous and very sturdy. He is one of the best carpenters we have ever had working on any project. He is very courteous and professional. I have recommended Rick and his crew to my family, neighbors and friends. If we ever need any other work done on our home or property, he is who we would call. Our daughter was so impressed with his work, she had his crew stain her large wood privacy fence and our son want's him to build a pergola over his deck.

Rick came on a Sunday to finish the work due to the rain delay. The fence and deck look great, kept everything clean and work was done quickly, he was very professional and friendly. I would recommend him for fencing and staining to anyone. Rick adjusted my quote due to overestimating the amount of materials needed!

Rick owns a local company and is one of the most diligent workers I have ever met in my life - and the work he does is absolutely beyond perfect. He was always here when he said he would be and worked long hours to get my fence built. But not only did he build a fence, he built a beautiful fence and one that will last for many, many years. The last thing I will say is this - don't use anyone else for your work!!

+ 1 moreJust as he said he would, Rick called the weekend before the six week period of estimated time to begin our work was up. We indicated our desire to go ahead with the new fence which meant removing the old one and included a cantankerous wrought iron gate in cement that would have to be removed. The Monday, Rick arrived, was an overcast day with intermittent rain showers. Rick came to the front door and asked if we had any problems with he and his help sitting in their vehicles between the showers for cover, which we didn't mind. He began the day by go to the City to get a Permit for Construction so that everything would be nice and legal like. I was amazed at how much they got done the first day having to remove an existing fence before they could start. It rained everyday the entire week and the weather was sultry and humid. Rick and his crew did not miss a single day and either worked when the rain had slowed to a bare drizzle to sometimes in a direct shower. Had the weather been cooperative, Rick would have easily completed the job in less than 5-days. But, because of the weather, he took his time and worked the next Monday and at no time did we feel we were getting a rush job or that the job was not being done up to par. Rick and his crew were extremely hard working and profession. I had no concerns about honesty or having to leave the house several times for various appointments while Rick and his crew were working. His estimate was on target and it was indeed a pleasure working with someone who not only knows their craft, takes pride in their work, but also is respectful and does not try to rip the customer off. Both my wife and I appreciated Rick's suggestions. We are very pleased with the outcome of our fence and have no problem recommending Rick to any of our neighbors or family.
Description of Work: Rick, the owner, came to our house, properly introduced himself, listened to questions we had about removing an existing split rail fence with wire behind it which was installed more than 20 years ago and in need of repair. We have two small dogs and their ability to tunnel under the existing fence and for animals outside such as rabbits to find their own way in was also a concern. We discussed the more pricey vinyl fences verses the wood fence that he could custom-make on site. We had not considered the wooden fence as in the past we have lived in various subdevelopments where are time, we had noticed similar fences needing what we felt to more more upkeep due to sagging, rotting, warping, and the need for paint. Rick had brought with him several types of fences he had constructed and showed us the results of using various types of stains on paints on the fence he would be installing. We particularly liked the white stain which we were informed that if we went that route, would require more than one coat. Rick walked around the yard with us, taking various measurements which corresponded exactly to the measurements that we had on two different registered plats from the Cumberland County Register of Deeds office showing the meets and bounds of our current property. We shared with Rich some encroachment concerns which had been expressed by one neighbor during the 20-plus years we've lived at this address, despite both plats showing the property was a perfect rectangle with the neighbor having some azeleas and pine straw from the pine trees on their property, stored on the side portion of our yard. In measuring, Rick had a question about one of the existing fence corners being very close to the rear line if not on it. We informed Rick that before he came out, we would make certain that we had a new survey on the property which we would be paying for to make absolutely certain we were well within the boundaries of our property before putting up another fence. There was some metal chain link fencing from a previous dog run, that was not included in the initial estimate and was supposed to be taken care of by our yard maintenance people. We agreed on a start date of approx six weeks from the estimate date as Rick had work ahead of ours that he would have to complete first.

He allowed me to go to Lowes and actually purchase all of the supplies needed for the build and I had them delivered a few days prior to the start date. They finished the job in the estimated three days with no issues whatsoever. + -1 moreThey have the most positive feedbacks in Angie’s List and the guy to be contacted there is Rick G. Raymes. He is extremely professional. He will swear that he is not the cheapest but after getting other referrals he was and his workmanship was of higher quality, better craftsmanship than the other once. I do have the best fence in the neighborhood. I highly recommend him to anybody. He will repair fences. If I wanted a couple inches put on he will do that like no jobs too little or too big. As far as putting like a stain and varnish she will do that. He is knowledgeable enough that he let me know to wait a couple of months to make sure the wood is completely dry before getting it done. He also let his customer borrow his spray guns for free if they choose to do a consult. I will be using him again – when he will going to put the stains and treatment on my fence.
