Lawn and Yard Work, Landscaping, Lawn Fertilization & Treatment
About us
We are a small , family owned business. We have 7 full time employees and 3 part time employees. Maintenance accounts are billed after last service of the month is conducted. Other services, payment is preferred when job is complete.
Brasswood maintained our agreed price for my medium/large lawn. I appreciate that a crew of 2 to 5 people would come out each time, which allowed the lawn to be finished in a matter of minutes. This is more convenient for me because I have dogs that like to go in and outdoors frequently. Anytime that we had an issue with lawn service, such as a plant getting sprayed by mistake or such, this company was very customer-oriented and easily accepted our request or criticism when we had a dissatisfaction. This trait is missing in most companies, so I really valued this attribute. This company offered us custom care. Steve Thornton is highly educated regarding plants/trees, and can tell you the name of anything and the care that it requires. He is a walking encyclopedia. He takes his work very seriously. His crew was always predictably on time, and usually came on the same day on the weeks that they mowed our lawn. He doesn't have high turnover of his crew members - familiar faces each week means continuity in my lawn care as well as reflects a good business that must treat its employees well - another asset.
Description of Work: This provider has been servicing our lawn for more than 1 year. Mowing, Edging, Weed-wacking, Spraying, Planting shrubs/trees.

While it took about 5 days for a return call, when he called back he was apologetic and scheduled an appt quickly. Very knowledgable by phone about drainage issues and sod installation. Even offered to come out on Saturday for the appt. Will review after appt as well.

We need regular lawn and property care of multi-acre site. Mr. Thornton has provided us with excellent communication and follow through on service recommended, scheduled and completed, as well as following up with us on scheduling service for future dates. Greatly appreciated the pictures sent of work done as we do not live in area where the property is that Brasswood is servicing.

I apologize for not getting back to (deleted member name), both fortunately and unfortunately, at this time of year I am overwhelmed with requests for proposals and estimates. I understand that everybody's time is as important to them as mine is to me - I screwed that one up!

Very very well. Definitely would use them again. Workers were very respectful and worked constantly.
Description of Work: Steve is the most knowledgeable about plants and trees of anyone I have ever met. He brought his team and did work exactly as we had discussed. He moved 3 crepe myrtle trees and planted 7 more as well as a dogwood. Prepared 2 very large beds and 4 smaller ones. Planted liriope around all bed borders (around 500 plants). Planted many iris, lily, forsythia and several other plants. All plants were from my sister's yard. He made a brick pad for parking my vehicle. The team of around 6 arrived on time and worked for 2 days. One of those days was in a constant drizzle/shower of rain. They worked right through it. I could not be more satisfied with the work.

Steve is awesome! He brought 4 guys out and spent a good 5 hours on our yard (almost 1/2 acre and had not been maintained in over 6 months) he supervised the whole thing on site and the guys took only one quick break to take a load to the dump and worked diligently the entire time. There was no one standing around. They also brought their own water, and were completely self-sufficient. (I have had yard guys in the past ask me to bring water out to their guys, which I absolutely do not mind) but in this case it just shows how well-prepared and professional Steve and his crew are. Originally, I found Steve on Angie's list. I found another landscaper as well who quoted me (prepare yourself) $1250!!!! Steve did take a couple days to return my phone call for a quote, but he had been in the midst of a very large landscaping job. When he did come out, he was timely, respectful and patient with all my questions and concerns. He was also very knowledgeable about all the plant species we had and I learned a lot about what we should be looking for in our yard. ...even discovered things I didn't know I had. He was very friendly and attentive. I was so worried after my first quote that Steve would surely at least be in that high ballpark based on how in-depth our consultation went. Obviously, not the case! He had a fully-typed, thorough estimate in an envelope on my doorstep within 3 days, outlining exactly the tasks we discussed. I called and set up for him to come the following week. He gave me the time so I could have my dog inside, and they showed up right when he said. My yard now looks absolutely incredible...I don't even recognize it! And the best part is, every single bit that we discussed was done, and above standard. No short cuts were taken. This has never happened for me ever, in hiring people to work on my house. Finally someone I can trust to do what he promised, even in my absence. His estimate also quoted that he would come back every 2 weeks for maintenance ($70/service), that includes weed spray, mowing, edging, pruning...the whole works..this is so worth it, as the amount of work our yard requires would take us days, maybe weeks to complete alone. I am looking forward to our continued services with Steve. In one visit, he has already turned our yard around. Best money spent in a long time!! Also, he is retired military, and it shows. He takes pride in his work, and is extremely efficient and professional. Great great guy and he definitely is deserving of your business! You will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Mowing, edging, pruning and trimming bushes and shrubbery, bush removal (approximately 10 large thorny bushes), thinning out thick shrubbery on the property perimeter, and blowing all leaves/debris off patio and driveway, organic weed spray (safer for dogs and kids)– basically, total initial cleanup

Due to our long time positive association with Brasswood Landscaping and the owner, Steve Thornton, we were not charged for the replacement of the Japanese maple. Mr. Thornton is an honest businessman and he treats his loyal customers like friends and family. We've been using his services since 2006 and our yard has never looked better. He replaced a number of azalea bushes several times when they did not thrive because of the different sun exposures in our yard. He found just the right cultivar that could tolerate stronger sun and they have taken off. After the initial charge for planting he did not charge us for the multiple replacements when the first plants did not thrive.
Description of Work: Replaced a dying ornamental Japanese maple with a more hardy Japanese maple. They diagnosed my ailing tree as dying from root rot because it had originally been planted too deeply before we purchased our home and was planted in an area that failed to drain adequately. His three man crew dug up and removed the old tree, including the roots. The prepared the hole and added the right mix of soil amendments for the tree and planted it at the correct depth. After refilling the hole they returned the landscape to its previous state so you can't tell a new tree was planted. It looks like it has been there for years.

I was really impressed with them. They were a little higher priced than other placed I checked with, but he really seems to know what he is talking about. He is knowledgeable and has been very timely with his work so far. He is professional and speaks English. He took the time to show me the area that needs extra work instead of just telling me about it.

Steve Thornton knows more about plants and trees than anyone I have ever met and he does not hesitate to share his knowledge with you. If he does not know he will tell you so but then he will find the answer. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Description of Work: Trimmed all shrubs, planted replacement shrubs (installed by a different landscaper and the plants died) and obtained planted an absolutely beautiful (and unique for the area) eucalyptus tree.

Great. I couldn't be more pleased with his professionalism and service.
Description of Work: Steve Thornton and his crew at Brasswood Landscaping service my lawn and shrubs on a monthly basis year round. I have a large front and back yard and while I do my own lawn cutting, they do all the shrub/tree/bush trimming, edging, leaf/pine straw blowing, fertilization of ornamental shrubs, weeding of landscape beds, and debris removal. They trim shrubs according to the recommended time of year. Steve is an expert in horticulture and can name every single plant. I've learned so much from him about NC horticulture. I've been using his crew since 2006. Steve will also install shrubbery and ornamentals if needed and he backs up his installations with a full warranty. If the plant doesn't thrive or survive he will replace it free of charge until it does.
