Wayne was punctual. He was always there when he said he would be. He did what he said he would do. He was great about checking in and making sure things were right. We agreed on everything. He finished the job with professionalism all the way. His crew (Steve, Scott, Rusty and Fidel) where absolutely the best guys to work with - ever. Each one did a great job. I could not be happier with the service or the final product. I would (and will) hire Wayne and Fairview Landscaping again without reservation.
Description of Work: Wayne and his crew put in a beautiful waterfall - two actually - along with two large patios and a fire pit with stone seating as well as some landscaping. He also removed a bunch of trash that another worker had left. He finished the job with some nice much and plantings.

Called Fairview Landscaping on Fri, 7/5/2013, regarding influx of water into our lower level from an outside drain. Wayne came over that afternoon and evaluated the problem, providing a preliminary estimate of about $5,000 for drainage pipes and one French drain. Situation appeared to be stable at that point with the outside water level reduced so Wayne arranged to return on Mon. As an interim measure, we purchased a small sump pump and jury-rigged a system for periodically bailing water into a large container from which the pump (with hose attached) could direct water a long distance from the house. Unfortunately, on Fri night, torrential downpours necessitated almost continuous bailing. Called Wayne Sat morning just for advice, and he said he would be right over. He and a helper arrived shortly thereafter. Cutting through an extremely thick slab of concrete, they were able to create a large enough space for the sump pump to be installed underwater. EUREKA -- no further bailing necessary! Utilized that system until Wayne and crew arrived at 8 am on Monday morning. They worked all day, returning at 8 am Tue and Wed. All work and clean-up were completed in an additional day and a half. Unfortunately, there were bigger problems that were revealed during the course of excavation that required installation of a second French drain and an additional drainage area to protect a concrete wall, but Wayne discussed all aspects of the problems and work needing to be done. Final cost, including the addition of a dry stream bed, was $10,000. Wayne goes above and beyond to work with you. His crew is very hard-working and reliable. We were very impressed.
Description of Work: Removed portion of a concrete ramp; installed a French drain and new drainage piping. Installed new French drain and dry stream bed at back of house. Installed new, heavy-duty drainage pipes directing water well away from the house. Replaced soil and planted grass.

He found ways to increase our price to cover his own cost overruns due to poor weather. We had not agreed to any of this beforehand. As he felt a little behind schedule, due to poor weather, he did sloppier work.

He came out when he said he would. He was pleasant to talk to. He had given me the price before I had gotten another price. I didn't tell either company what the other was bidding on the price. He didn't write it down, he just gave it to me when he was out there. He did some measuring and then gave me a price verbally.

I discovered that one of my ponds, fed by a stream and flowing via a culvert drain into a lower pond, had drained down to just a stream. It clearly had found an escape tunnel near the bottom of the pond and was draining into an underground stream that it had created. I called Wayne at Fairview Landscaping (I had previously contracted with him for other work) and he came out the next day to look at it. He clearly had solid knowledge about stream-fed pond construction -- something many landscape people do not have--and discussed what was happening and what would need to be done to correct the problem. Since he could not tell, until he dug up the area, how deep the underground stream was, what twists and turns it might be taking or what kind of soil he would find below the surface, he could not give me a firm bid. We agreed that he would bring in the heavy equipment, and dig up the area and then he could give me a price on either fixing it or, if too expensive, to just retuning it to the condition he found it. Wayne and a helper arrived within a few days with a backhoe, dug up the area, assessed the extent of the problem and recommended a solution that I could afford. Wayne was very conscientious about finding an economical solution. He repaired the leak, and left the pond area in good shape. I was surprised and pleased at how little damage was done with getting the backhoe into and out of the pond area. I was very pleased with the quality of the work, and the knowledge and professionalism of Wayne. He is a trustworthy and competent person.
Description of Work: A stream-fed pond on my property had opened up a drain near the bottom of the pond and had drained nearly dry. Fairview Landscaping located the hole and underground stream, removed the soil down to the source of the problem and rebuilt the dam that created the side of the pond, thus allowing it to drain through the culvert that was intended as it's original drain. The pond refilled and now drains properly.

We had Fairview Landscaping relocate several plants and were pleased with their work. We then called them again and had them reroute the water from our gutters underground to the road. This involved about 250' of pipe, three catch basins, trenching, and driveway work. Wayne McElrath met with us several times before the project began, was open to our (many) questions, and completed the project ahead of schedule. We then had him and his crew build a sidewalk and hang a door to the garage. While not the cheapest of the quotes we received, we were pleased that Fairview Landscaping showed up, kept the project site clean at the end of each day, and completed the project as promised. We plan to post a followup in six months.

I was kept very well informed from the start of the job. Owner, Wayne and his crew brought the necessary equipment to the job site on schedule, as promised, and went right to work. Wayne personally did the grading work and was present for all critical tasks. Each day I was informed of the job progress. Much of the work was done near the end of my driveway and they were very considerate to let me know times when the driveway would be blocked. Wayne provided a status at the end of each day, listened to suggestions and worked hard to incorporate them. The retaining walls are beautiful and we have received many compliments from friends and visitors. Overall I am very pleased with Fairview Landscaping and recommend them without hesitation.
Description of Work: Fairview Landscaping was consulted to address a steep slope that had poor stability with freezing, thawing and rain. Wayne, the owner recommended grading the slope to ease the steepness, followed by a special hydroseed mixture that is supposed to work well in shaded areas. They also installed a large two-tiered dry stack retaining wall composed of Tennessee flagstone. Added rip rap for driveway water drainage. Installed hard pipe to divert water from downspout drains to prevent erosion.

Do not use this company. I was treated with complete disrespect and rudeness by Wayne. Read the review from May 1st and I would just stress that I had a very similar experience to the one shared by a customer who had a similar negative experience. Wayne and I agreed to a price of $900 prior to him starting work which was a fair price. When he was on property doing the job he called me and said he would need to bring some soil in to raise the grade along the sidewalk and it would be another $150. Being I was out of town and wanted the job completed, I agreed. When I surveyed the work after returning home, the soil he brought in wasn't soil. It was a red clay/dirt with large rocks that hardens like clay when it is dry and erodes easily during rainfall. I wouldn't have accepted this dirt for free much less paid an additional $150. I've never been treated as rudely with any vendor as I was with Wayne. I will say he did take my calls expressing my dissatisfaction with the job performed , however the last comment he made to me before our call ended was that I was a %$#@ing idiot. He never came back to relocate the bush and the tree which is okay because I want no further contact with this company. I highly advise against using this company. The pricing offered by this company may be reasonable but the quality of the work is substandard and the bedside manner of Wayne is very unpleasant.

We are sorry for a unhappy customer, but the full story was not told. 3 days after we removed all the rock from the gravel parking lot it rain 3 inches within 6 hours. The property was under flowing water. It looked like a creek running across it. The moving water cleaned all the fines out of the dirt and left heavy rocks in work area. Member requested we redo the job for free and was very nasty about the problem. I ask him to help pay the cost to redo the work and he said no very rudely. The weather I can not control and I could not understand why he thought I should redo it for free. The dirt he got was good dirt, we use it all the time and other customers has no problem with it. So for the safety of my people I did not return to the job. I at no time become unprofessional to Member.

Pitiful after the fact.
Description of Work: This review is honest and to the point. We needed our side yard landscaped after we removed several trees. Got quotes from 3 local landscapers Fairview Landscaping came in the middle. Wayne was nice and forth coming on what needed to be done. In fact I got the names from Angie's List. We went with Wayne for his reviews on the list, A's across the board. He said we needed 4 loads of top soil. We wanted 3 trees planted with grass. What we got was 4 loads of red dirt not even close to top soil, which I did not think much about at that time. We got the three trees two of which were great one we had to nursed back to health with the help of a local nursery. Now to the experience. The so called top soil is filled with rocks of varying sizes from 3 inches to huge 20 pounders. The grass is a nightmare. I called but no answer and not a returned message. So I emailed Wayne about the huge bare spots we have and what grass that is growing is crab grass. He did respond to the email and said let's wait till early fall. Early fall is here I sent him a email 13 pictures of the wonderful crab grass with the huge bare spots, that was over a month ago. We still have not heard a word back. So we have had to over sow the entire area that we paid $2,000.00 for Wayne with Fairview Landscaping to do us right. Two Thousand Dollars and not one visit, one call, with one sorry email. All we have to say is that just because they have a great web site and have a " A" on Angie's List does not mean it's a fact. Just disgusted with how we have been treated. I guess $2,000.00 just is not worth coming back to check. I wonder what would have happened if this had been $6,000.00??????

In response to Member. To begin we are sorry that we were not able to take care of this customer without it having to go this far, this is not the normal practice of our company. We never heard anything about the tree problems. Member did not want to pay for good topsoil so we had to go with the dirt that I could get cheap. The work was completed June 7th 2012. It is our company policy that we cannot warranty against extreme weather conditions. We have had a VERY hot summer, with temperatures 100 plus most of the season. I received the email on August 6th 2012, with the pictures that Member spoke about (no mention of trees). I replied we would look at it early fall, thinking maybe if it wasn’t too bad I would deal with it rather than lose a customer. But it is only the first part of September. As Member stated he has sow the grass again and I cannot do anything with it now. And also if the Member spent $2000.00 or $10,000.00, they still would have been a customer and we strive for happy customers.

From the get-go, the crew did a great job. Courteous, and hard-working. They did their best to please me and even did a few extra jobs that I wanted done. A few hiccups that were remedied quickly. We found Wayne on AngiesList and called for an estimate. He called back and came by promptly, working around our travel schedule and meeting us on the weekend. He walked our property, listened to what we wanted and developed his bid to do the work. He made many valuable sugestions that helped us arrive at the master plan to transform the mess we had around our beautiful new home into a wonderful, green, flowing landscape. It is unbelievable! It was such a pleasure dealing with Wayne and his assistant, Chris. Working between the raindrops of the wetter than normal month of May, Wayne managed to get our job done using good judgement as to when to work and when not to bring equipment that would do damage in soggy soil. The project was done quickly, completely, professionally and looks fabulous. We recently called Wayne regarding gravel for our driveway, and he helped us tremendously. He also is advising us with tips to care for our lawn. He actually stopped by to check on the progress of the sod a few times, knowing we were out of town and making sure our sprinklers were operating. We will call Wayne again to begin planting shrubs and trees when the season is right. We have a great before and after story and are enjoying the total transormation of our yard that Fairview Landscaping did for us. Well worth every dollar we spent!

Wayne's guys are great. Wayne shows up at least once per day to make sure the work is going well. Chris and Jimmy are definitely the kind of guys you feel comfortable having around your house. Our original contact with Wayne was about 1 year ago. Since then, we have called them back twice to add on to the work they have already done. Wayne has made sure they reseeeded the lawn at no charge to get some areas of the grass going in difficult areas. I highly recommend Fairview Lanscaping!
Description of Work: Built stone wall along entire front bank of property (110ft) did yard cleanup and mulching, plus designed and planted new bed in front of house. They also brought in top soil and created a new lawn around most of the house as we had some sinking around our septic tank evacuated by decaying trees.

I called Mr. McElrath and he came to my house the same day. He evaluated my existing rotten railroad-tie wall and recommended a rock wall. He also recommended re-contouring the hill at the base of the wall to make it easier to mow and more attractive. On my rear patios, he recommended overlaying the concrete with flagstone and replacing the concrete walk with flagstone. Later that day he gave me an estimate. One day after I called to accept, he started work. The entire project took about three weeks, with some interruption due to weather. Weather permitting, work was conducted on a continuous basis until complete. I was kept up-to-date with all work. Communication was excellent and all work was done in an extremely professional manner. His employees were very courteous and professional. Mr. McElrath operated the trackhoe himself at times and was at the worksite every day. All debris was cleaned up after work was completed.
Description of Work: Fairview Landscaping built a 2-4 foot high dry-stack rock wall along the front of my house. The wall was approximately 170 feet long and included natural stone steps. The rock wall replaced a rotting cross-tie retaining wall which was removed. They also covered two concrete patios with flagstone, removed a concrete walkway and replaced it with a flagstone walk. Adjacent bedding areas were covered with mulch and some beds were re-planted with shrubs. The hill in front of the wall was re-contoured and seeded with grass.
