+ -1 moreThe gentleman who came out was very nice and helpful. He was incredibly honest and upfront, and I appreciated his integrity. Basically, he told that he'd probably have to charge me more than other contractors, and he then referred me to a local company.

+ 0 moreI'm very big on contractor's responsiveness, punctuality, and complete attention to details. We had a few other estimates who came in much cheaper but the process of getting the estimate took forever with me constantly following up phone calls. Couple of contractors finally gave me an estimate but disappeared when i said and quot;when can you start?and quot; I then Joined Angie list and found Ace. I called left a message and a day later got a call back from Greg apologizing for not getting back to me earlier...what a concept? from the initial steps Greg was responsive, detailed and on time with every promise he made. Although the quote I received was high but I knew I was working with a person I could count on. We met at the propety a walked through the details the following weekend and of course he was onetime again. The work was to begin on Wednesday of that week, and on that day I began to receive emails from Greg with pictures of my property and the work in progress. For the next two days pictures and explanantioon on what was happening continued. I got back to the property on Friday evening and found the work to be completed, and the work site neatly cleaned. I and very proud of the work that was done and very happy to have asked Greg and the ACE team to have worked on my property.
Description of Work: The 20ft plus 4x6 Pilings on the Deck on the house we purchased in the Emeral isle needed to be replaced with 6X6 to be up to code as the deck. I'm pretty handy myself but this was not a one man job and I was not about to take on a project this size. This work involved securing the Deck with jacks..digging around the existing pilings, remove them and replace them with 6x6 pilling extending two story's.

Description of Work: Greg was very cordial and assisted in making decision on materials. He also fit us in when they had a postponement of another job. The roof was stripped of two layers, sheeting was replaced and tar papered on Monday. Shingles, drip edge and ridge vents were replaced on Tuesday. Cleanup was great. And Greg was on the phone that night checking to see if it was satisfactory. The laborers were helpful and easy to work with. Great job to to them to the staff at Ace. Thanks for taking care of it.

+ 0 moreCalled and explained my belief of problem (AC drip pan leaking into closet and down drywall to first floor ceiling) and was told he (Greg Hall) was at a work site in Emerald Isle an unable to schedule anything at that time please call back. Called back 3 wks later and was told he was too busy to leave Emerald Isle area and could not come to Havelock for estimate or work. I cannot evaluate any work or estimates since none took place. Just wish I was told earlier that he could not/would not come to Havelock area which is less than 15 miles away.

+ -1 moreI contacted Gregg Hall, of ACE Builders, on the 7th or 8th of October. He told me what he could do and when he could come for a look at the job. He was on time and represented himself well. His estimate, dated Oct 12, 2010, was in writing and accurate to the penny. His contract, dated Oct 13, 2010, (separate from the estimate but with the same dollar amounts) called for work to be completed the week of October 25th barring inclement weather. The job included quality materials, professional labor, excellent clean-up, and an accurate estimate. Materials were delivered one day and the job was completed the following day (in one full work day). The contractor was easy to contact and even easier to work with. The job was finished yesterday, ahead of schedule, on the 21st of October. Am I satisfied? What do you think? Oh, yes! I'm satisfied and then some.
Description of Work: Roof Job on approx. 1200 Sq Ft Doublewide Mobile Home (20 Years old). Removed old roof shingles and barrier paper. Repaired/replaced plywood in weakened and rotted areas. Replaced old "thin paper moisture barrier" with 30 lb felt tar-paper. Replaced shingles with standard three-tab composition shingles.

Description of Work: Removed/Replaced roof, removed old chimmney and vents, installed new wood, flashing, and all trim. Chalked and sealed all areas as needed. Very professional crew and Mr. G. His workers remained courteous and diligent and were very proactive in cleaning up after the job was completed. I would wholeheartedly recommend Greg and Ace Builders to anyone looking to have work done on Emerald Isle.
Description of Work: We had our old cedar siding replaced with Nichia Board cement siding. This included exterior paint and replacement of all flashing with copper. They also replaced a large section of existing roof....just before a record rain which allowed us to stay dry as a bone inside!

+ -1 moreThe work done by them was fine. They were prompt in giving me an estimate. They were prompt in finishing the job once they got started. They started within the time window they promised us that they would start, but it was nearly at the end of that time window. We did have some dispute about the specifics of the work as far as what was expected, which we had to work out with the contractor. We don’t feel like some of the work done is quite up to what we wanted it to be, but it was okay overall. However, the contractor was prompt and got it done pretty quickly. The gentleman who we contacted that we thought would do the work didn’t actually do the work with his crew. He subcontracted it to somebody else and had them do the work. It was ultimately because of our miscommunication of not being clear on what we wanted and what he was delivering because we weren’t actually dealing with him once they arrived here. However, the problem was resolved and we are fine now.

+ 1 moreA home inspection uncovered suspect hidden water damage. The contractor was contacted about a more detailed inspection and an estimate to made the necessary repairs. As the person purchasing the home I was asked to outlined what I wanted done. I worked very closely with the contractor. The work had to be completed before the property could be sold. The final cost was within the estimate range and the work performed met expectations. As the buyer of the property and absentee owner this was a very pleasant experinece. The double wide trailer brick curtain installation was in response to a mortgage bank requirment that a brick foundation was needed before they would consider a loan to a potential buyer. The contractor was able to complete the required work within three weeks of our initial contact. The bank approved the loan and the property was sold. As an absentee owner this was a very pleasant experinece.
Description of Work: JOB 1: $3,500) Conducted a prelimiary inspection of a suspect water damaged area on the vinyl siding of a 12 year old two story home. Removed siding sections and traced the water damaged back to its source. Prepared an estimate with details on how to proceed, and with the understanding that the repair was to be a permanent fix including elimination of the water leak. The estimate was a range since the full extent of the damaged was not known and involved a two story wall structure with a upper deck. The repair involved removal of the vinyl siding and deck strurture for acess, exposure and repairs of damaged area including wall studs and the second floor support banding, installation of new wood siding underlayment and vapor barrier, reinstallation of vinyl siding and deck structure, and repair/replacement of flashing to eliminate water leak. Pictures were provded along with routine updates on work progress. JOB 2: $5,800) Removed and disposed of vinyl underpinning from double wide trailer. Provided labor and materials to install foundation and 40 inch high brick curtain with vents and access door around double wide trailer perimeter. Contractor provided a fixed cost bid, met with owner when requested, returned phone calls in a timely manner, provided routine updates and pictures via email, and obtained permits and inspections.

+ -1 moreTore off old roof and replaced with new including new ridge vent . My house has valley's and actually had three areas of ridge vent added. My house is approximately 1500 sq feet. The price also included roofing over my 12 x 12 shed. We did not tear off the shed. The crew was very punctual and efficient. Great job of clean up. Very professional in their manner. Our only hitch was we failed to order enough shingles by one bundle. The crew came back out as they promised to finish what was about one hour worth of work. Everything was as explained. There were no hidden cost The job came in at estimate. Very easy to communicate with. Would definitely hire Ace builders again and would highly recommend. Greg is great to work with.
Description of Work: We had a roof that needed repair due to leak around exhaust boots. Could have just patched for now maybe, but would have needed a new roof with in the next couple years anyway so we just replaced. Also wanted to put new shingles on our shed.

+ -1 moreWe noticed a leak in our spare bedroom last year and kept putting off the work. I started calling contracers on New Years Eve. Ace was brilliant! Greg Hall came to my house and took time to go up onto the roof and into my attic. He was the only one out of 5 contracters. His price was the lowest by far (even with upgraded materials) and the entire crew was curtious and professional. The roofer took the time to explain the difference between different roofing materials and the costs and benefits assoicated with each. No one smoked on my property and they didnt even leave one nail behind. I was very pleased with the whole experience. We will use them in the future.
Description of Work: Ace took off existing roof and replaced it with a new one to fix a leak we had in the celing.
