The Persian Carpet is a full service Oriental Rug dealer offering fantastic selection of antique and contemporary handmade rugs. It all began in 1962 when Doug bought a small oriental rug for $15.00 during his first research trip to Iran. Over the next 16 years Doug returned to Iran 18 times, quite often purchasing rugs for friends in his spare time. The Persian Carpet was born in 1976, inhabiting a rental corner of an antique store. Since then, The Persian Carpet has grown into a leading regional retail store and a national wholesale, known for the quality and beauty of our merchandise. Our inventory has expanded to include all types of handmade oriental carpets and textiles with a wide variety of styles and designs from Iran, India, Pakistan, Turkey and China. The collection offers antique and new oriental rugs and features an amazing array of transitional and contemporary designs.
The Lays began designing , producing and importing their own proprietary rug lines in the early 1990s. Today, The Persian Carpet offers a specialty line of British Arts and Crafts and American Prairie Style carpets that are sold worldwide. A new division of the business, Southwest Looms, produces two lines of carpets inspired by the American southwest. The Dreamcatcher Collection offers realistic reproductions of Navajo rugs and the Pendleton Collection features handknotted pile carpets using Pendleton@ Indian blanket designs. Nelda and Doug's daughter, Cynthia, and her husband Bruce McLaren joined the business in 2002 with the responsibilities for marketing and servicing our wholesale accounts.
