Very well. The office manager, who works 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, is very knowledgeable and friendly, and wants you to be satisfied. The leader of the paint crew was very conscientious and thorough.

Steve Biddy painting did an excellent job! Steve Biddy's crew painted the entire house, on time, and on budget. This included undoing the poor job done by the prior paint crew. He probably should have charged us more, but saw the situation we were in and was willing to do this job to get our business and earn this referral. The woman who answers the phone at his office (Debra? I can't remember now...) and works the schedule for Steve is amazing for both her organizational skills and her ability to give excellent customer service. She's a credit to Steve's organization. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the triangle area!
Description of Work: Painted the exterior of our home in Hope Valley. I contacted Steve Biddy and other painters to bid on finishing painting the exterior of our home that was left unfinished by Steve Bennett painting. Steve Biddy came out personally and took a look at the partial job that had already been done. He was the only company that was willing to give us credit for the work that had been done.

The estimate process went extremely smoothly. Steve is clearly an extremely honest and dedicated business leader. Our final price was exactly as estimated. We selected this company because of the absolutely outstanding reputation, and because it was clear that they didn't cut corners (for example not painting the inside of door trims. They clearly do things the right way, not the cutting-corners and sometimes a tiny bit cheaper way. I am very glad we went with Steve Bitty. Not only did the painting team do an outstanding job, they also came back and did touchups for free after we installed new carpet and moved furniture into our new house. It is a clear reflection of their commitment to top quality. I will definitely recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: Most recently, Steve Bitty's team painted cabinets in our kitchen and two bathrooms. They also switched out the hardware in the process. They previously removed wallpaper throughout our house, and painted walls and trims. It was a very significant job!

We received a prompt response to our request for an estimate. Their estimate was slightly higher than the other two we received but I wanted a locally owned company, not a franchise company and I liked their guarantee and responsiveness. The work started on schedule but was delayed several days due to bad weather. Someone called each day to let us know whether they could work that day. The crew managers were very polite and responsive to questions and requests. We were very pleased with the work performed, the value and the personnel with whom we interacted.

To be fair, the overall rating fell because of the carpetry work. They are very good painters, reliable, pleasant, punctual and professional. The problem was with the quality and pricing of the carpentry. The "carpenter" was slow and the company charged by the hour ($45 per hour). One of the tasks was to build a simple 2x2 access door to hide exposed plumbing in a closet. We ended up with a frame box with a plyboard door just hanging with no stops and no jamb. Not exactly the trim work I anticpated. When I pointed out the result to Steve, he immediately reduced the labor charge, but we still paid for materials. Fortunately, it is in a closet and not worth re-doing. Next time, I would negotiate a price for the job and hope that he hired a new carpenter.

They did an outstanding job, arrived on time, had it done promptly in a day and when I came home it looked like they had not even been there other than a beautifully painted living room! The attention to detail was excellent, fixed the cracks and imperfections in the wall. And to my amazement, they even saw that there was a small area in my kitchen where I could not reach and had not painted above my cupboards, so they found the paint in my closet and painted it for me without me even asking! That is amazing customer service!

The power washing was thorough and removed most but not all of the mildew, Two days later they applied the stain, using brushes on the railings and a roller on the deck. At the last minute, they talked me into using a semi-transparent stain, which I later found was not as well rated and was cheaper than the stain that was included in their cost estimate, but they did not reduce the final price due to use of the cheaper material. The estimate also included power washing the gutters above the deck, but that was not done. The final result looks fairly good, but I doubt that the stain used will hold up very well. The workers were pleasant and polite, and worked hard and steadily, so I have no complaint about the labor that was done.

This is a good, professional, responsive company. The estimate was professionally done and right about where I thought it should be. Everything to be done was laid out. The workers were prompt and efficient. And then they did it all, with care and hard work. A good deal of time was spent preparing the wood for the paint, which is the way it should be done. Rotten wood was replaced. I've done a good deal of carpentry in my time and found that all wood was replaced without a gap or a bent nail. They didn't miss a spot as everything was scraped, caulked, sanded and painted in a professional way. They found things that I had forgot to mention, like a wooden glider in back of the house, stained like the deck, the mail box post, and a black, metal pole, supporting our light out front. Any concerns that I had were dealt with immediately.

It was horrible!! The workers took off the wallpaper, but did a lousy, incomplete job of removing all the glue. They then proceeded to prime and paint the walls to see where the imperfections were, but the areas that looked good were far outnumbered by the bad spots. They re-prepped the walls, supposedly sanfing down all the uneven spots, but too many uneven spots to count were still present. This process was repeated yet again, and still there were unfinished areas. As they were painting, they did an amateur at best job of cutting in at the woodwork, and there were cearly visible lines where they had stopped cutting in and used rollers. At 2:00 on a Friday afternoon, they announced they were done (still too many eneven areas too count), and that there was an issue with the paint not drying, so they couldn't come back for a while. Considering the first coat of paint had gone up on Tuesday, why was I not hearing about problems until Friday. After my general contractor contacted Steve Biddy, he did come to look at the issues, and said they would be taken care of. While one person came out Saturday, he left with the walls unfinished, and a promise to return Sunday, a promise he broke. Workers also did not show up on another scheduled work day that week. When the room was finally painted, the paint bubbled up in hundreds of places, a phenomenon caused by the fact that there were too many layers of paint (thanks to the poor job of wall prep that had to be redone numerous times), something that Steve Biddy said would correct itself as the paint dried. It's now almost 2 weeks since, and I still have bubbles, plus poorly painted trim, poor edgework, and areas that are still not taken care of form where the wallpaper was taken down. When this was pointed out to Steve Biddy, he launched into his favorite topic "Well, I do a million dollars a year of work", and would accept no responsibility that his workers' technique and rushing through the job not allowing the paint to dry in the first place. As a worker started cutting out the areas of bubbles, large sheets of paint started peeling from the walls, due to the walls not being properly primed to begin with. I am now back to square one, with my walls needing to be completely stripped, sanded and prepped, primed and painted. It will take over a month to finish (correctly) a job that was supposed to have taken 3 days.

Response from STEVE BIDDY PAINTING
I contracted this job with a contractor with whom I've had a 100% success rate on multiple jobs in the last 10-plus years. I was contracted to remove one layer of wallpaper, prepare & paint the master bath,& to prepare and paint the master bedroom. We pulled the first layer of paper off and found a 2nd layer of paper. My men called and I said to pull off the 2nd layer at no charge. My best man-out of 25 men asked to leave the job because the homeowner was very rude. I sent a 2nd crew over and they pulled the paper off & plastered the walls, but they also complained that the homeowner was rude & kept the bathroom abnormally cold. They asked if they could not go back. At that point the homeowner called the contractor & asked that both of us come over. When we got there she was very distraught & said that the men had closed her master bedroom door (which they had done so that plaster dust would not get all over the house) & she took it as an insult, instead of a professional courtesy. She also said that we could only use the paint she had chosen, as opposed to the top-of-the-line Benjamin Moore paint I recommended. Due to the use of her inferior paint, in addition to the moisture created because of the unusually cold temperature of the bathroom, the paint bubbled. In her defense she explained that she needed to have extremely cold temperature in order to sleep. After the bubbles appeared, I sent yet another crew to fix the bubbles. They worked until 10:00 pm at her request & applied a 4th & 5th coat of paint after she changed the paint color (which again, I said we would do at no extra charge). She then called & asked me to come over again, which I did. During our conversation she cut me off while I was speaking, told me to shut up and proceeded to cuss at me & told me I was a pompous ass. It took everything in my power not to lose control but I stayed calm & told my worker to correct the problem. I told the homeowner that the (15 or so) bubbles would lay down if she would turn off the A/C. She said that she wanted it fixed right then. My man removed the bubbles and plastered the walls. The next day she called & asked us not to come back. This is the first time in 32 years of business that something like this has happened. She fails to mention that the paint job in the master bedroom was perfect, and totally disregards the fact that I spent over $2000 trying to fix a $1400 job. At the end of it all, I asked the contractor for $400 to pay for the master bedroom and he gladly paid. To this day I have received nothing and charged nothing for the work done in the master bathroom, and I continue to have a great relationship with this contractor. Sincerely, Steve Biddy

We have used Steve biddy painters twice. This time Steve came out and gave an estimate within a day or two and the work was done ~1.5 weeks later (on days which fit my schedule best). They workers arrived on time and were courteous. The quality of the work was top-notch.
I was amazed how quickly the job was completed. There was a couple of days of prep work and then the painting began. Our house was literally painted (two coats with brushes) in one day. There had to have been at least 10 guys painting away. I thought the ladders were going to tip my house over. Steve stopped by everyday to make sure we were happy with the project.
Description of Work: Steve Biddy Painting painted the exterior of our house. Prior to painting, they thoroughly power washed the house and replaced a few areas that had wood rot. The project went smoothly and the house looks great. We chose Steve Bidding painting because of the attractive price and stellar reputation.

I had arranged for Steve to give me a quote on painting the exterior of the house. My house is mostly brick (except for the garage) but there are shutters, a lot of trim and the garage is wood. Steve was exactly on time. After working up the quote on the spot, I accepted. He actually had someone at my house that same afternoon to pressure wash the house and the crew came the next morning to paint. They did a great job. They were friendly, professional and did good work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Steve Biddy painting to anyone !

Steve Biddy arrived on schedule and provided excellent information about the job requirements and paint selection. He also suggested we consider adding crown molding to the tops of kitchen cabinets. He provided an estimate on the spot and stuck to it. His crew was punctual, worked extras hours to meet our move-in deadline, did an excellent job painting and installing bathroom light fixtures and crown molding, were courteous and professional, and were neat and cleaned up thoroughly. They left no paint splatters to be removed. The only problem was getting them to use the brand of paint we desired. Even though we told Steve, his office manager, and his crew leader which paint we wanted, they ended up using the brand they prefer. In the end we were pleased with it. Steve (a different crew) painted the exterior of our single family dwelling 3 years ago and did a fantastic job. The paint looks great today. We think he's the best in the business.
