I am so pleased with the job they did and with the people I had to work with. In the office and on the job they could not have been more helpful and more professional. I highly recommend anyone who needs fencing work to use them.
Description of Work: I had some fencing taken down that was ro2f5tting and some fencing replaced and some repaired. So a little of everything.

Explicitly told them about the Job that I had in mind - individual showed up at my house and I walked him thru the details, etc. Then he promptly sent me a note that they declined to quote, as they didn't want a job that required labor only - even though, again, I explicitly told them this was the job. Total waste of my time, will not recommend them to anyone.

It went very well. 3 men who were all very friendly, were late, but explained why. Worked 7 hrs solid, and did a great job building my fence. Left the job site clean. I would rehire if I needed them. Love sitting on my deck now and watching birds and squirrels eat from my backyard feeders within my new cedarwood enclosure.

From the moment I spoke with the office, met with an employee for a quote, met the installers and right up until I received the final invoice everything went perfectly. I could not have asked for a smoother process and have already referred your company to a friend. Your employess are personable and professional and made the project a joy. For the record, your quote came in at nearly half of a competitors quote for the same job. So, while the workmanship and materials are top quality, we certainly received quite a value for our money.

From start to finish this was a great experience. During the quote process, Ken was professional and responsive. He tried to match another price on the bid (the difference was nominal, but I had to ask). He revised the quote to match the process of the other bidder. When he came out to recheck my property, he realized that the cheaper version would cause a gap in the fencing. I agreed that his first proposal was correct and that is what I accepted. Today the crew came out and did the install. I LOVE what they did. It's actually better than I thought it would be. The crew was professional, neat, and efficient. I am grateful to have had this experience with Sierra.

Very well! When we accepted the estimate, they gave us a tentative installation date -- which they missed by only one day. The work was done quickly and professionally, and the installers left our yard neat and tidy. They charged a little bit more than some of the other estimates we got, but we think it was worth it.

Sierra Structures was quick to respond to our inquiry and provide a written estimate. The company assigned a one-person subcontractor to our 489-foot, 4’ chain link-fencing project. He was on site early on the day promised and was able to take down the old fencing and carry it away. Personal health and truck problems prevented him from starting the installation for several days. Upon return, he manually dug and set the sixty-one posts in one day. Neighbors were amazed that he would even attempt so much work in one day. As Michael began hanging the fabric, it was realized that he had to shorten line posts. Upon measuring the fencing, it was determined that the fabric delivered to the site and being installed was 2” shorter than contracted. Sierra was notified, acknowledged the ordering mistake and assured us that the 48” fabric would arrive before work resumed. It was noted that the time and expense of removing what had already been done would be costly, time consuming and subject the area to further compromise. About one half of the fencing had already been installed and finishing the run with the correct material seemed to be the best approach in completing the project within a reasonable time frame. Michael was able to complete and clean up the site by close of business the next day. QUALITY: The only negatives were in the area of quality control and assurance in making sure that the correct materials were delivered to the job site. Having experience this issue, it would have been nice to have had a follow-up call to make sure we were comfortable with the outcome. All in all, we are pleased with the appearance and workmanship provided by Sierra’s subcontractor. Bill W.

Dear [Member Name Removed], Thank you for the comments. Yes Michael is an amazing installer and one of the hardest working installers who works with us. He also does amazing work. Yes I checked and there was a mix up on the fabric ordered for your job. Our manufacturer sent us the incorrect material. There is not excuse in that we should have noticed the mistake before it was shipped to your job site. We certainly appreciate your willingness to work with us to solve this problem. We always want to make sure that our customers are totally satisfied with our work. Thanks again from the feedback. We will be more careful in the future and we certainly learned a lesson from this. I recently had a customized deck built by Sierra Structures. Saying that the work was flawless, and the company responsive and flexible doesn’t say enough. I met with Travis House to discuss the size and type deck I wanted. I also mentioned that I wanted inset steps, something that I guess is not commonly done. However, we worked together to come up with a deck plan, altered the size to make it bigger and discussed placement of the steps. From that point, the process was easy. They submitted the plans to the Town, got quick approval and, after some weather delays, began work on the deck. Midway through the build, I noticed that the steps weren’t where I had envisioned or where I thought we had discussed. A quick call to Travis and he sent his lead over to review. A solution was quickly found and the steps were widened to meet my needs, and not required a new review by the Town. The deck took a total of 4 days to complete (because of the stair change) and the result was absolutely gorgeous. Oh, did I mention that Travis was able to find a way for me to afford composite decking? Heaven! The demolition of the existing deck left holes in the siding, but he was able to send out someone to replace the siding for the large hole and fix the smaller one. You would be hard pressed to find where those holes were. I’ve heard nightmares from friends who had decks built – delays, mistakes that required tearing down the structure and restarting, poor workmanship, and non-responsive companies. I experienced none of those with Sierra Structures. The office kept me up to date on the status of the work, and they were all very responsive, professional and…nice! I highly recommend them for your next project and will definitely be using them again when it comes time to repair/replace my front porch!

Dear [Member Name Removed], let me apologize for our performance on your quote. First, we never want to be late to an estimate, and if we are, we always want to call and inform our customer of the delay and the reason for our delay. There is no excuse for not providing you a timely estimate, and there is no way to justify our lack of responsiveness. I do think there was a misunderstanding that our price was above your budget; due to this misunderstanding, we did not follow through. This was a poor decision on our part. We certainly do not like your review, but in all of these reviews we learn lessons. I can assure you we will use your review to make Sierra Structures a better company. For that, I thank you. It went very well. We started just having the porch added on then extended the job to have a deck added as well. I worked with two different contractors during the two projects and both were excellent. Travis' attention to detail was amazing. His team was always on time, top notch materials were used and they did great work. Thank you Travis for making sure everything was perfect and that we were satisfied with the both additions. Prices were very reasonable and I would definitely hire Sierra again!!

Oh my goodness! I was called twice for my address and phone number, including about 20 minutes before the time the estimator was schedule to visit. After looking at and measuring my deck, the estimator said he would get back to me with a estimate on the Tuesday following Labor Day. I received the estimate of $4,510 on Thursday, and the work was underway at that time. I can't imagine how their estimate could be 4.5 times what I paid. I am delighted with the deck renovation and very appreciative that Gary of Garuda-Decks referred me to a great renovations contractor.

Dear [Member Name Removed], I apologize for your experience with our company. We may have over communicated on our attempts to make sure you were informed of our estimate. We have been trying to make sure our customers are kept informed and in this case we may have over communicated. I think you definitely got a wonderful price as just my material costs seem to be well above what you paid for the entire job. Please also understand that we do not try to compete as the least expensive contractor. We are a licensed general contractor, provide benefits for our employees and are fully insured. All of those costs do in fact add to our pricing model. Again, I am sorry you had a bad experience with our company as we strive for excellence in quality and customer service. It was okay. I think the initial visit with the estimator was great. He struct my as very knowledgeable, so I felt confident in choosing them. What happened, as sometimes the nature of these things, was once they took up the old deck, they discovered some things they didn't know were there. So they had to change the way they were going to build it, which meant it took a lot more time than they original estimated. That wasn't their fault. As the process went on, communication with them was a bit tough. For example, I was told they were going to be there on X date. That day came and went and no one showed up and no one communicated that they weren't going to make it. That just does not impress me at all. If you can't make it, that is fine, but let me know. They came the next day and finished it. But it's those little things that make the difference for me. It was a pretty big job.

Dear [Member Name Removed], Thank you for the feedback and the kind review. As you know I spoke with you on the phone and you are absolutely correct in your comments about our performance. Not communicating on our scheduled dates is a "no, no" for us and we need to correct that for sure. It is our policy to communicate schedules and schedule changes with our customers. We dropped the ball-no excuses. As far as the stairs go-as you know there was some confusion on the second set of stairs. On June 23rd Sierra Structures installed a partial fence in the backyard of my townhome (my neighbor had enclosed his lawn earlier). On the other side of my home, there is a 2-panel privacy fence separating each townhome from its neighbor, so the installation consisted of extending the privacy fence (4 panels), installing a gate, and a 5th panel, connecting to my detached garage. I selected Sierra Structures because : (1) the reviews on Angie’s List were favorable; (2) the professionalism of the residential estimator who came to my home in late April to hear my requirements, measure my property, and create the drawing of my new fence. On May 3rd I signed and sent back the contract, along with my check for $932.50 (1/2 of the cost of the job). I was originally assigned an installation date in early June, but I was told that date had to be cancelled because of a scheduling error. Meanwhile, I had had my property survey pulled and my property lines marked. The installation date was rescheduled for June 16th. On June 15th I called Sierra Structures to confirm the installation the next day and to express my concerns that the utilities had not yet been marked. I was told that the system used by Sierra Structures showed the utilities had all responded. I asked for and was given the “811” locator for my property, and when I called “811”, I learned that another error had been made – the address connected to the job number was NOT my address, and was, in fact, an address in Durham (I live in Raleigh). The installation was rescheduled again, to the following Friday. When Raoul, the supervisor, and the other installer arrived around 10 a.m. on June 23rd, they had the plans the estimator had drawn up in May, clearly showing the existing privacy fence would extend an additional 16 feet. Raoul measured and marked for 18 feet. When I told him that the fence needed to be 16 feet and no more, he insisted the panels were 6 feet each and there would be three of them installed. He insisted for 30 minutes – while I explained why the 16 feet was non-negotiable (HOA requirements for where the fence could connect to my garage; the need for both my neighbor and me to have access to landscaping services (I had even arranged for the landscaper to send a workman with lawn equipment when the measurements were marked to insure access)); the 18th foot connection would go through my gardenia hedge, etc. Finally, he agreed to cut a panel. When the men removed the plastic protecting the panels and posts, they allowed the plastic to blow away. I had to chase plastic wrapping up the alley and across neighbor’s lawns. The installation was tedious and slow, and the two men did not finish until after 6:30 in the evening! The hose used for the quick set must have been running all day, because for 2 1/2 feet along the perimeter of the newly installed fence was a muddy mess even several days later (even though I get strong afternoon sun, and we had only one brief rain shower). The dirt from the installation of the posts was thrown into my rose garden and around my azaleas, and I had to clean that out after they left. I found debris (a box cutter, strips of corrugated cardboard wrapping, bits of plastic wrap and broken pieces of plastic – some with jagged edges and pointed extensions) around the fence for two days. Fortunately, I don’t have children or pets that could have been harmed. The fence looks fine, but the process of getting it installed was tremendously stressful! I was disappointed the installer was initially going to ignore my specifications (and the estimator's drawing) for the job, and I am not happy with the clean-up. Since my lawn was so wet as they were working, I now have patches of lawn that need to be re-seeded. Below are photos of (1) samples of debris left in the yard; (2) the fence itself (3) area around the fence.

Dear [Member Name Removed], This clearly not our finest hour. No defense on these issues. We made many mistakes on your installation. No excuses offered with two exceptions: First we did move your job because we did make a mistake on marking the utilities and could not have our installers digging in unmarked areas. We certainly thank you for bringing that to our attention. The second one is Raul. He is one of our best installers and I am sure he was trying to help with your fence. You can check reviews here on Angie's List or Guild Quality and see what others say about his performance. I am not saying he did not have a bad day but he has been a wonderful installer with high quality and great customer service. Again, thanks for your feedback. It was painful to read but we did make mistakes. We will use this to get better every day. Thanks Again for taking the time. Ken Meashey.

Our experience with Sierra Structures was wonderful. Jody did a great job helping us figure out how to place the fence in our yard and JJ and Jose put the fence up quickly and with great care. We looked at several top local fencing companies and all the prices were competitive, but only Sierra Structures could fit us in right away, which helped us move into our new house on the timeline we needed. They were incredibly communicative, friendly, and we are so pleased with the finished product. Would definitely hire them again!

Let me first say, these guys are honest and professional. Was given a quote based on the initial measurements taken. When Ken came back out to flag the property and confirm he measurements, he discovered it was actually a shorter distance. He emailed me and told me it would be a couple hundred cheaper! I would have never known the difference. Now, that is INTEGRITY! The two man crew was fast and cleaned up after themselve. The fence looks great. Because of weather delays and issues with buried rock, the fence wasn't done by the time I had to return to Alabama. The next day, I received a call from Vic who had gone to inspect the fence installed by the work crew. He said that it was not up to their high standards, and they were going to take it all down and have their most experienced team rebuild it. To ensure the reconstruction didn't cause my neighbors any additional inconvenience, they installed a temporary fence so they could allow their dog the freedom of their backyard. By the time I returned to NC, the fence was finished. It is beautiful, and extremely well constructed. I am very pleased.

We are extremely satisfied with our fence, the value and quality of work. From the minute I met Jody our salesperson to the crew that came today to check the quality of the build, we are very happy. The team that built the fence was punctual and efficient. You could tell they knew what they were doing.

The estimator was very professional in his communication and measurements. The crew worked diligently and finished the job in one day. Hurricane Matthew happened the next week and the fence looked as it did when it was installed.

Things went very well. The gentlemen from SS took their time evaluating and assessing the most practical way to replace the fences. They asked us questions to better understand where the water flowed when it overflowed the streams. We had previously had rip-rap and dry beds installed by another contractor, Agape Lawn Service. There was a lot to take into consideration when constructing and placing the new fences. SS suggested placing the fences in new areas, and we agreed. Previously the fences were far inside our property line. The new fences were place near the edge of our property line. This is helpful because the water does not flow towards the fences now. Also, the gentleman who constructed/installed the fences was courteous. When the fences were completed, he advised us on a product to use to treat the new fences to protect and add beauty to the wood. We are very pleased with the result. We benefited from SS's expertise and suggestions and believe these new fences look fabulous. All of the SS people who came to our home to helpfully discuss our needs were polite, attentive, and honestly spoke to what the believed would be our best option. As indicated, this project was not easy to solve, but SS came up with a wonderful plan, and we are grateful for all their assistance.
Description of Work: We had fences in the back yard which collapsed due to earth movement from rain water collecting around the fences over the past year. The area where the fences failed involved city run-off water streams, one through the length of our back yard and one on the side of the yard where the street storm drain deposits water. It was a tricky situation since some of the fencing had to span the area where the two drainage streams met together.
