NEW LEAF LANDSCAPING

I called New Leaf to get a quote on installing an irrigation system. Rick showed up at exactly what time we were told to expect him! He checked our our yard in The Oaks Villas and told us that based on the size of the back and front lawns it would much too expensive to do an installation because the Town of Chapel Hill will require a permit, a special water meter, etc., etc, and the price just for that portion of the installation would be at the least $2,500 and that was before the cost of the irrigation installation...way out of our budget for his project. He was very polite and very honest about the costs. So although we did not have any work done, I wanted to let Angie's List members know that this is a man you can trust to give you all the information you need to know to make the right decision. Thank you Rick for being so upfront with us on this project. We will definitely call this company again if we have any regular landscaping needs. Elizabeth Bonnet.

I am not one to write negative reviews, but due to the extreme lack of customer service and professionalism New Leaf Landscaping exhibited, I felt the situation warranted a review. Although New Leaf Landscaping has been around for a while and I see they have some positive reviews, I had an extremely negative experience. There are too many details to go into them all, but this is a somewhat brief synopsis of what happened: I saw a New Leaf Landscaping truck in my neighborhood on 5/1/17 and talked with one of the owners, Mr. Whitney Schwab about possibly getting work done. Immediately after talking with Mr. Schwab, I made an appointment with Denise (receptionist) for the following day. No one showed up (she said she’s not sure what happened and she thinks she didn’t put it in the system). Several other things happened along the way (she didn’t put the address in correctly and set up an appointment when no one was available to come out. She then never notified Mr. Uriel Vega (the person I was told that would come out to see what we needed done) that I called to re-schedule the appointment due to poor weather conditions. Mr. Vega showed up as my mom and I were leaving and we decided, since he was there, to show him what we needed to have done. He mentioned other people complained recently about issues with appointments. We thought things were going to go well as he seemed responsible and knowledgeable and indicated that New Leaf could handle what we needed to have done. He left and told us he would send a quote. Two weeks later and still no response. I called and Denise said she doesn’t know what happened and that she would call me later that day. That didn’t happen. One week later and still no response. Fast forward to June 12th. I call and speak with Rick (one of the owners) and bring him up to speed, hoping to move things forward. Rick said this is unusual and nothing like this has happened before and he would talk with Mr. Vega and get back to me later that evening or the next day. June 13th comes and no one calls, but I do get an email from Mr.Vega that evening with a quote. The email says nothing about all that’s transpired. It only says “sorry for the delay.” For the most part, the quote had nothing to do with what we discussed, but more of a generic quote of other things they do. It came across as a “brush off” quote. I called back today, June 14th and asked to speak with Mr. Schwab since I never heard back from Rick. I heard Rick in the background telling Mr.Schwab that it was the person with the long story and that he sent me an email today saying that Uriel would be emailing me a quote. That is a lie. I never received an email from Rick (not in my inbox or spam). When Mr. Schwab got on the phone, he was very dismissive, as well as short. He said Rick already told him everything and he didn’t know why I was talking to him about it when I already told Rick. He then said that "we wanted small trees removed and that is out of the scope of what his company can do".This is not true. We have tiny trees starting to grow up (saplings) that can be dug up and Mr. Vega let us know they have machinery that can get these up without a problem. Mr. Schwab said Uriel was probably just sending a quote letting us know the things they could do (the quote only talked about hand weeding and trimming shrubs and removing leaves and didn’t even discuss the mulch and pine straw we discussed doing with Mr. Vega). Mr. Schwab then said that Uriel told him you said "you were getting several more quotes" (that's not true) and that "Uriel probably thought it would just be better for you to go with another company". I then responded to Mr. Schwab with, "I don't know how to respond to that." Mr.Schwab then said he had a meeting he had to go to and with that...hung up the phone.

NewLeaf developed a plan that included a flagstone path on the side and drip irrigation for the new plants. The crew arrived on schedule and began removing all of the old plants. The then prepared the areas with top soil, relocated the drainage pipes, leveled the ground for the flagstone path, laid out the irrigation hoses, planted the new plants, planted grass along the path and mulched everything. The project took several days, and at the end of each day the crew cleaned up the work area and stored their tools out of the way under the back deck. Everything looks great and the plants all seem to be doing well. I would definitely recommend NewLeaf and would use them again.

I would highly recommend New Leaf. We have used New Leaf for a number of projects in the past and have been very happy with their service- great attention to detail and pride in their work. If you are looking for highly professional organization that does top quality work, look no further. A real pleasure to deal with. We've worked with other landscaping companies in the past- you might pay a bit more with New Leaf, but the quality and professionalism makes it worthwhile.

They landscaped our yard from 2005-2011 then we moved. The staff was outstanding.

They did an absolutely fabulous and gorgeous job but they are not cheap. The do extraordinary work and they have been landscapers for 6-7 years. I highly rank them. They have wonderful work ethics and their employees are wonderful. They are punctual.

We are extremely satisfied with quality of the work. We struggled with planting, growing grass, the rocks and the general North Carolina landscape for years before reaching out a landscape designer. The landscape designer listened to what we wanted and incorporated ideas that we would have never considered on our own. Now, our yard looks like it could be on a cover of a magazine.

First time use with New Leaf and our yard service was approx 3 wks over-due, the grass was very tall in many places. New Leaf was able to work us into their schedule quickly and did everything we asked. I will definitely use them again.

They are pleasant to deal with. They come when they are supposed to come. They do exactly what is in our contract but not any more. I am pleased with them. I some times have to tell them how to do something that they were going to do in a way I didn't find acceptable. I have had other groups do these things over the years and I think they are the best. The price is fair.

I really liked them. They were very professional. I liked everything and I think their price was probably fair.

New Leaf is an excellent all-around landscape design and maintenance company. I've used their design services at two homes, and their maintenance services for seven years at a second home. New Leaf trains and carefully manages their crews, and they care about their welfare. They work closely with their clients. Rick and Whitney, the owners, are both easy to work with, and dedicated to making sure that the customers are happy. New Leaf uses only quality materials, and they are meticulous in their installation. And it shows. That said, they are not inexpensive. But you get what you pay for. If you want a gorgeous lawn and grounds, don't hesitate to use New Leaf.

We have a base of $150 and if we have extra things thrown in there, they charge extra for that. They charge per month. The crew is very responsive, they're courteous, and efficient. They come at a set time generally every week. I don't think they're that expensive. They do a great job and everything is always done very neatly and cleanly. Often I'm not home when they come so I don't see them that often but when I do, somebody's always there to respond to questions or concerns.

Their price was 10-15% above average. They came in and looked at the house and the garden. They e-mailed us the quote back within two days.

They faithfully come and do what they're supposed to do. They have made some mistakes that were surprising to me such as pruning bushes at the wrong time and not doing it very well but other than that, they are very reliable and pleasant to work with. You do need to stay on top of what they are doing I think. They are fine with everything except the pruning. They do not do any hand weeding or anything of that sort so if you ask them to pull out the ivy or something, they will charge you extra for that. I have a contract with them which is up for renewal and I will continue with them.

My experience was of an 'A' quality however the price might have been a little high.

job went well but yard continues to have drainage issues they used solid tubes instead of tubes with holes so that the area would not become overly dry it is better than before and on landscaping end they placed a gar-denier in an area that is too small must be transplanted and the butterfly plant is too big for the area but the area looks better than it did

I like New Leaf Landscaping's knowledge. He was able to include pictures of plants that he would recommend in some areas. I think I would use them for other parts of the work. I truly thought they are expensive.

They were one of the few companies that figured out what the problem was. They were good at diagnosing the issue. The repair was done well. I had some other people that looked at it and didn't know the best way to repair it, somebody else that gave me an estimate but then never scheduled it, so they communicated, had people that knew what they were doing.

They did a good job. I was satisfied with their work.

The job was done wonderfully. New Leaf drew up several plans and provided a great deal of insight and input into the final design that we sent to our HOA. The first design was rejected and New Leaf made adjustments and resubmitted the design for us. They were also prepared to speak with HOA if there was a need to do so. Once the design was approved by the HOA, New Leaf began work on building the fence. The work started before the Christmas holidays so it took longer than expected because of employees taking time off but once they got into the work it went rather quickly. They did all of the work onsite: cutting the wood for the posts as well as for the slats in the fence. This allowed them to actually contour the fence to the yard which gave it a far better look. Overall their work was well done. I have received numerous compliments from neighbors on the look of the fence and the landscaping.

They did a good job. They were good. They did what they said they were going to do.

As I wrote earlier, I was totally satisfied with Bright Leaf and quality of service and customer service. I will be working with the owner in a couple of months to complete the job. We had to stop only because the weather turned cold. As soon as he can start planting again, the work will be complete and can write more at that time.

They came back the following Wednesday. They quoted me about $3500 for the landscaping and $5600 for the irrigation system. The main thing is when the guy came back to go over the drawings with me, I really felt like he had put a lot of thought into which plants were chosen, the color and to have something that would blend with the environment. I don't know if there was a selling tactic or not, but I really appreciated that. I really felt that it would be nice and I could enjoy it. New Leaf Landscaping is a small outfit and they are definitely trying to be as green as possible. I really enjoyed the interaction with them. The primary reason I haven't pulled the trigger is because I couldn't find good feedback. I even tried to see if he could send me some information on the other customers so that I can drive by and see their yards. However, I didn't get a response for that because he said that his computer crashed. So, he is the one that I have liked so far and I am planning on using him in the future.

They have very good ideas. Their work is very good. They are not the most prompt in returning calls and getting back to you for scheduling. But when they do get there, what they do is very good.
