We have been using Lee Air for about ten years. We bought both of our HVAC units from them. We chose them because they are trained by Carrier in putting together the carrier HVAC units, which means that their quality should be higher than those who don't take the formal training. In the past few years, I have noticed a deterioration in the quality of their service. From the folks who answer the telephone when I call to the service technicians who come out to service our units twice/year, they always tell me they are new with Lee Air. They tell me they haven't been trained to work on the Carrier units. Last fall, we had a problem with the motor on one of the units. It was under warranty but we still had to pay $200+ for labor to install the motor. The service technician told us it was installed improperly, as was much of the unit. Which made it difficult for him to service the unit. Just last week, when the second unit was blowing hot air (instead of cold air), I called and they could not schedule service. Said they'd put me on a waiting list and will give me 30 minutes notice on when they would be out to fix the unit. I called on Monday, they arrived Friday late evening. Ironically, Friday afternoon I gave up on hearing from Lee Air and called a different company who scheduled service for Tuesday morning. I think, in the future, I am going to give the other company a try instead of Lee Air. They have some pretty good reviews from here....

I called Lee Air on Friday morning on a hot day because my downstairs AC went out. Steve came out that same afternoon, diagnosed my problem as a burned out fan motor and weak condenser. At that time he called his supplier and ordered me the correct replacement motor and parts to complete the job. He was able to take apart my outside unit and go get the new motor and parts and get it back together and working all in the afternoon. Finding the correct motor to fit was not straightforward because my central air is 15 years old. However, Steve is a problem solver and worked on the unit until it ran perfectly. $536 is a lot of money to spend, until you start pricing the replacement cost for a new central air system. Thank you, Steve.

We bought two high-end Carrier gas furnace/air conditioner units in 2004--installed split systems one in the attic and the other in the crawl space. We've had a service contract with Lee for about 9+ years. Lee regularly serviced both units twice each year---in the spring for a-c and in the fall for the furnace. Lee's tech determined the attic compressor (split system with located outside) to be bad. We asked the tech to have Lee advise as to cost to repair or replace the defective unit. The units are still under a 10 year parts warranty from Carrier.. We got an invoice and paid invoice for the service .call. The invoice noted what we asked the tech to have Lee advise as to cost for repair or replacement. Eleven (11) days later we still await that return call from Lee. We used Angie's List to identify a second vendor. Second vendor contacted Carrier which provided two options--replace the compressor or Carrier will discount an equivalent unit. We chose to have the old unit replaced with a newer equivalent unit which included a new 10 year parts warranty. As of the writing, we still have not heard from Lee. Ironically, today I received an invoice from Lee to renew our annual two-visit maintenance contract with Lee. I believe we'll pass on renewing the service agreement with Lee and switch to the second provider. Shame on Lee Air Conditioning!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: One of two split-system central air conditioning units stopped working in a recent heat wave. Lee a-c sent tech promptly to diagnose issues. Tech advised that attic (outside) compressor was bad.

I called this company on a very HOT Sunday night when my AC unit broke. The on-call person called me back in about 30 minutes. He seemed to be trying to discourage me from having him come out that night and said, "It will cost $150 an hour and the clock will start when I leave my house and it will take me 30 minutes to get to your house." When I told him that I would wait for the morning he assured me that someone would call me when they got to the office at 8:00 the next morning. I did not hear from someone until 2:30 and I had already made arrangements with another company.

Response from Lee Air Conditioners
We try to keep our customers informed throughout the service process. That begins by informing the customer of the hourly rate; especially after hours, so they can determine if they can wait for service during normal buiness hours. We apologize for not calling sooner; however, it sounds like our Service Department was experiencing a high volume of calls due to the extremley HOT weather. We have a new phone system that will feed calls to trained personell during high volume periods. We have also hired an additional Service Department scheduler.

I made an appointment with Lee AC and the sales person Ken Foreman was punctual in coming to my place. He was painstaking in examining my needs apart from looking at the existing installation. He brought attention to the fact that the existing furnace was incorrectly installed and was in violation of existing city codes. I was given various product choices including financing and Ken promised to email me a quotation. I accepted the quotation and work commenced after a week. The crew were careful in covering my internal carpeting with plastic whilst working on the duct work and were good at cleaning up debris etc. The following day they installed the AC unit etc including reinstallation of the furnace and successfully turned on the unit. After they left an hour later the unit came to an abrupt stop necessitating my calling their support folks. Within an hour they were back at my home and found that some installation packing left behind had caused the unit to shut down. Additionally, there is marginal improvement in the air supply on the first floor to my disappointment. Overall, while I believe that Ken Foreman and the crew did a good job he did not envisage from a design perspective of the existing duct work that more needed to be done to have really made a difference in the cooling on the first floor.
Description of Work: The services provided included replacement of a Airconditioning and coil unit including reinstallation of the existing gas furnace and FLUE pipe. In addition the existing ductwork in the hosue was modified in an attempt to increase air supply to the first floor.

Response from Lee Air Conditioners
We were limited in what we could improve by the existing furnace, since the blower motor that supplies air flow for the entire house resided in the existing furnace. We did increase the air flow where he requested; however, the thermostat is located on the lower level near the cold air return. We did come again and try to make damper adjustments.

April 2011: Internal insulation on air conditioning unit was damaged / wet from another service provider and dirty sock smell coming from the unit. Lee Air first suggested to replace entire air conditioning unit. After discussion with sales/tech, it was decided they would replace the insulation and clean the coils. The dispatcher called to schedule a time, but I never received an estimate for the work. After multiple requests for a return call, Lee Air never called me back and never got the work. ** Another provider came in and fixed the problem for $125. June 2011: Needed two new ducts installed (1 dryer and 1 enlarged return and grill for air conditioner). I did NOT want to work with Lee Air because of my first experience, but was convinced by a friend that they do good work. Ken came late to my place to offer a quote for the work. He seemed great and spent a lot time with me. The quote was $2500, but was not detailed and was grouped together for both projects. I asked to have the quote separated into two distinct separate jobs, but was offered an opportunity to be flexible with the service schedule instead (to save $). I contacted Ken / Lee-Air 3 more times, but never got a response from them. My time was wasted over and over again by this company. I won't let them do that to me again.

We actually spoke with the member about the scope of work and we couldn't arrive at a place where we could offer the work at a cost he was willing to pay, because we were so busy installing equipment for people who were without HVAC. I explained the cost was what it was because my crews are billable at a certain rate. The billable rate for our crews is the same whether they are installing equipment, gas pipe, duct work, or if they are installing drier vent.

We are happy with them. They have been around for a while. They charged us around $8000. They were very knowledgeable and came when they said they would. Their price was right and it was the best price. They had knowledge about the systems and made recommendations as well. My husband used to work as an electrician and he had a lot of friends into HVAC. So, he could tell that they weren't just making recommendations without any knowledge behind it. We would definitely use their services in the future too. In fact, we do have a contract with them.

I went with them because they’re locally owned and they pride themselves with service. They matched and exceeded the lowest bid I got from any other company (after I told them I was a member of Angie’s List). The receptionists are incredibly nice and friendly as well. Because of their recommendation, I relied on the sales rep., and I was really clear on letting him know I didn’t want a noisy unit, since I have a small bungalow. The unit is functioning correctly, but when the heat pump is on, the unit is disturbingly loud. I should’ve been advised of this, since after some research, I found out that this is a common issue with the unit. However, they have been very responsive. When I had a recurring issue, they were prompt in returning my call. Once, when I had an issue a few years after the unit was installed, the technician informed me that it was out of warranty, but it was a manufacture’s defect, so he made sure to call the company to make sure I wouldn’t be charged. Overall, I am satisfied with their services and I would recommend them to others.

The upstairs AC stopped generating cold air over the weekend. I called Lee first thing Monday and was scheduled for an inspection on Tuesday afternoon. On Monday afternoon I received a call saying that someone could come out that afternoon instead. About an hour later, a technician showed up. He inspected the unit and found the blown capacitor. Even though it was getting late, he offered to get a new capacitor and return to fix it that evening. He returned about an hour later and fixed the problem.

They arrived on time, the serviceman was friendly and polite and extremely knowledgeable. The whole visit was informative and put our minds at ease about the condition of our HVAC system. We had owned the house for about a year and just wanted to make sure things were okay. I think the cost was well worth the cleaning and checking they did.
