Kiefer Landscaping & Nursery was rated High on Angie's List with a great number of positive reviews. Therefore, I called them to discuss options for an Irrigation System for my new house in Durham. The woman who answered my telephone call was extremely rude, arrogant, and condescending. She would not stop or pause to listen to what I was trying to explain. Instead she rattled on about how they have installed a lot of irrigation systems, and how they know all the rules and regulations. I had actually already spoken three times with the City of Durham Department of Water and Sewer, and discussed my situation at length with the Chief Officer there, and he had clearly explained my options to me, and also the city laws and regulations. But the woman at Kiefer was too arrogant to listen to my narration of what the Durham City Officer had said to me.

We had landscaping done and it was done by Kiefer Landscaping. We used Kiefer Landscaping twice this summer. They could have provided an accurate estimate to make it a better experience for me. The estimate was grossly under the end cost. I used them later in the year but we required a binding cost estimate for that.

I am sure it is possible to find a cheaper landscape provider, but their work is worth the cost. Their creativity and commitment to the project show in every detail. They are on the site and hard at work despite weather conditions. I especially appreciate their ability to listen to what the customer likes and wants and to respond. We will definitely continue to work with them on future projects.

We arranged our morning, and sat and waited. The provider neither showed nor called, despite my leaving multiple messages. we arranged our morning to meet, including cancelling meetings and taking personal time from work. I finally reached the owner's wife at their office, and was told they must have mixed up their calendars and would call me back, but I did not receive a call from the owner to apologize for the mix up or to reschedule. As a potential customer, I find this highly disrespectful of our time and energy. They had my cell number and could easily have called. Very disappointing and frustrating, as we were looking forward to working with them. There are other service providers out there who do good work and there's no reason to tolerate this.

Keiffer is a supremely qualified landscape designer and installer. Their attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile are exceptional. In several cases they went beyond the specification when they realized something could be done better. The original quote called for them to resurface my deck and add new stairs. But when they started they found the underlying structure of the deck had rotted and needed to be replaced. They built a new structure, with great attention to detail. They only charged me for the additional materials. Mark planned the layout with great care with areas for sun-loving plants and others for shady glens. He planned the sight lines from our deck and from the kitchen area to be varied and interesting. They installed an irrigation system as an addition to our existing system and it works very well. The plants they installed (65 different species) were almost all healthy specimens and have done very well in the past 3 months. Mark and his crew take great pride in their work and take no shortcuts. They cleaned up every day and were considerate of our needs, including our dog's. We are very pleased with the process and the results. Mark left us with a complete diagram of the yard with every plant identified. My only criticism is communications. The work schedule was frequently interrupted by rainy weather (not their fault obviously) but we didn't know when they would come to work. Mark made several decisions to adapt the plan to unexpected conditions in our yard. We agreed with those decisions, but only after the fact. He didn't explain what he was doing ahead of time. The bottom line is that they do a great job (this was the second job they have done for us), but could do better on communicating with their clients to ease their concerns. I recommend them to anyone who wants first quality results.

They did not use the correct stone for the patio. The pathways are too low so now dirt has washed over them. I have contacted the provider about this and have not received any service.

They have an excellent nursery, and the employees are knowledgeable and willing to suggest other businesses for customer needs that they cannot provide. The price is higher than Home Depot but not by much so its worth the extra cost.

Kiefer (Mark Wise) arranged all the details of installing irrigation system. Not only did his guys do work, but 811, gas, plumber, city water were all involved. They hid all this complexity from me. Mark, his lead Chuck and the whole crew were great to deal with. I may have been able to find somebody lower priced, but I could never get better service. You really can count on these guys.

I selected Kiefer out of 3 prospective landscapers because Mark W. understood exactly what I wanted immediately, and presented his bid in a timely fashion. Some of the trees planted turned out to be even larger than expected which was a bonus, as they offered even more of the privacy screen that I desired. Kiefer was a little bit more than the other 2 contractors but it was clear that Keifer Landscaping was the way to go - and they delivered. I emphasized that I wanted to stay within the estimate and we did. The tree species they recommended were more deer and disease resistant than what I originally wanted. I went with their recommendations and my yard looks great. I'd use them again. Also, the trees they planted were so nice I was inspired to visit their nursery in Durham. It was so pretty and garden-like (you can feed the fish in the pond) I decided to buy some outdoor plants, even though I'm not much of a gardener at all. Their nursery is a nice place to take your plant loving, out of town guests!

They do an excellent job. Their product is good but when you call back, they were never there...they don't answer the phone. Phone calls are not one of their fortes.

They were a great company to work with. I had no problems with them. They were always on time, courteous and did a good job.

We had so many issues with this landscaping company. They refused to provide a drawing of where the plants would go in our front yard, so we agreed to go to the nursery to see the plants listed in the estimate. We approved those plants listed on the estimate for the job. When we received the final bill, the plants were different from the ones approved by us and there were about 15 additional plants. Also, they planted things on the side of the house in an area we specifically discussed was not to be planted and removed an existing plant without permission. The response we received to our questions was that things were planted as needed and they were not willing to admit any fault. They were so unwilling to work with us that the plants are going to be removed. We are so disappointed with their attitude and complete lack of professionalism. **Update - I have changed the grade for this company. In the end, they did agree to a deal with a discount for the services we did not want. I would just let people know to be very, very clear with exactly what you want for your job and make sure it is understood.

He has a large selection of evergreen trees that are not available at Home Depot, Lowe's or other local nurseries. We found the exact hard-to-find trees we had been wanting to plant. He has a sale in October and is open on select Saturdays in October. This is the first time we have bought trees here. I wish we would have known about this place years ago.

They have good plants and good staff. They are very knowledgable. We would go back.

They were very considerate and helpful during the planting process. They worked within our ideal scope and put a beautiful tree in. They were considerate and helpful throughout. We will use them next time.

They arrived on time per the schedule. Did an outstanding job, very professional and followed up with us after completing the job to make sure we were satisfied with the plants, planting and clean up. They are always available for follow up questions and will come out to the residence when requested to answer questions and give advice.

Worked for about a week to re-do my backyard landscape based on a new design I asked Mark Kiefer to do. Have used Mark for over a decade at two different houses. He is one of the best landscapers and nursey-man I have ever met. High quality work and dependable at a reasonable price. He is not cheap ... but you get what you pay for. I now have almost all my neighbors using him for their landscapes based on the work he has done for me. Installed new drainage system; moved large landscape rocks; moved small plants, trees, and large bushes; added additional trees, bushes, and landscaping stones.

Overall, the projects throughout the years have gone well. The Creeping Raspberry groundcover is wonderful. If you have the patience to water it regularly during the first year or two until it gets established and weed it occasionally, you?ll be rewarded handsomely. It is ?deer resistant,? chokes out weeds, doesn?t climb up trees or into bushes, and produces changing foliage during the seasons. Its dainty white flowers and delicious orange raspberries (especially after the 2nd year) are bonuses. As in life, not everything has turned out perfectly. Some plants thrived where they were planted and some didn?t. (Hey, that?s landscaping . . . LOL!) I was disappointed to have to remove two decorative trees they planted in front of the house because they outgrew their locations. And I was only 85% pleased with the side stoop due to poor stone layout. But overall, I?ve been very pleased with Kiefer Landscaping, have hired them repeatedly over the years, and highly recommend them. Mark Kiefer is a hardworking, very nice man who runs an excellent company, and his crew is ultra professional (conscientious, quiet, leaves the property clean, etc.) Of course, the catch is that the company is relatively expensive. As they say, ?you get what you pay for.? One caution . . . the actual bill is often more than Mark?s quote. If you have an exact budget, tell Mark that to ensure you won?t be surprised when you open the bill.

Kiefer Landscaping & Nursery, Inc were great. We have been very pleased with them from the very beginning. They actually did the design work last fall, we had asked them to come with a plan for the front and back yard which they did and they gave us copies about all kinds of details about the plants to be used and how many plants, they priced it for us in a couple of different ways that would suite our budget and then they installed all of what we had requested them to do. They were fast, friendly, extremely conscientious about cleaning up every day before they left and our neighbors also commented on how clean everything was at the end of the day. We were very pleased with them.

We were out plant hunting and found more than we expected. The display gardens were wonderful and the hardscape displays were impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful. Now that we know where they are we will definitely visit again.

This was the second time we had Keifer do something for us. We described what we wanted, and discussed various options. Mark was very knowledgeable about walls and trees, gave us several recommendations. His estimate seemed high, but we were happy with the interaction, so we agreed. Mark thought it might be a few weeks before he could fit the job in, but it turned out that he had some time open up much sooner. Once the supplies were in, he started and the job was done in about three days. After they dug the first trench, the placement didn't seem right, so we called and suggested a change. Mark was fine with it and made the adjustments. He checked on his people every day, and despite some urgent matters with his foreman, everything went well. They did an excellent job, cleaned up after themselves, and took care of some minor problems that showed up after a heavy rain. People have said they are pricey, and I don't doubt we could have gotten someone to do the job for less, but we appreciate the skilled job that they did. I would highly recommend Keifer Landscaping.

I contacted Kiefer Landscaping because I needed to have my lawn reseeded and some flower and shrub beds created. Mark Wise came and evaluated the property and stated in our conversation that the estimate would probably not be the lowest I received but the work would be done properly. I accepted the estimate and signed the contract after reading through the reviews on Angie's List and talking with others who had used the service. They notified me that they were planning to come on a Tuesday morning but that weather had affected this schedule. It rained h****** Tuesday and on Wednesday the ground was too wet to work but they showed up early on Thursday morning. By the end of the day, they had completed a portion of the work in the back yard and started the front. Then on Friday they arrived early again but had to leave after a couple hours due to other concerns. Before they left, the driveway and street in front of the house were cleaned up and no equipment or materials were left where they could be seen from the street. On Monday morning, they arrived early again and within several hours said they would finish that day. When I returned home in the late afternoon, everything was cleaned up but I noticed that the beds had not been prepared. Before I had an opportunity to call about that, I was aware that the crew was back because the sprinkler I had started to water the new grass (per their instructions) had gone off unexpectedly. They were working on the new beds and buried a phone line that had been missed the previous day. In all, I am pleased with the work done and will probably contact them if I need further work. Mark also recommended others who can provide the weekly maintenance that is needed for the new lawn.
