After I gave my five-figure deposit in December I knew it would be a little while as things needed to be built and shipped. But when I reached out in the spring they said they were still working on it. I reached out in June repeatedly and they finally replied and said they had a lot of emergencies over the summer but they would let me know "in a few days" what was going on. It's now August and they are completely ignoring my emails.

After 3 weeks of waiting I phoned Jill's company phone number and left a message that I wanted to hear from her. I repeated these phone calls for the next month without hearing back from her. Finally I wrote a letter to her requesting the return of my retainer. At this point I received a phone call from her that she had been in Florida and had failed to take my phone number or email address with her. She had no response to why she did not listen to her voice mails, other than say that she had let her staff of one person go. I told her that I thought that her actions were unprofessional to which she replied that she was keeping my retainer that that she could no longer work with me. I highly do not recommend her services. Please note that Jill is not a licensed interior decorator. She states on her website that her skills were derived from watching her mother redecorate their house as a child.
Description of Work: Jill took a retainer after inspecting my house and promised to return in a few weeks with a plan.

There seems to be some misunderstanding here. Mr. [Member Name Removed] did not pay a retainer. A retainer is a deposit to be used as a down payment on service. I don't take retainers. What Mr. [Member Name Removed] DID pay was a non refundable deposit of $100 of which was spelled out clearly in the contract that he signed. I am not sure where this $20,000 came from. This is the first time I have ever seen that amount. Please note that this complaint is a duplicate of one that Mr [Member Name Removed] posted on Angie's List in 2011 when this happened. Angie's List removed it as it was clear that Mr [Member Name Removed] had signed a contract agreeing to a non refundable deposit. Mr [Member Name Removed] signed a contract with me and gave me $100 as a non refundable deposit to design an entire home. I explained at the time of the signing that I use the deposit money to buy fabric samples and stain matches and everything else that I needed for his presentation. I also explained that if he didn't purchase anything from me, the deposit could not be returned as it was used to buy these items. He understood and signed. He is correct: I missed our appointment and did not call. I didn't take any of my work folders with me when I was traveling to my grandmother's funeral. I apologized when I returned, explained the situation and tried to reschedule. Mr. [Member Name Removed] was one of four clients that this affected. He was the only one to not only refuse, but to demand his $100 back. I reminded him why I couldn't return it and that he had signed a contract and that I had some great stuff for him. He did not want to see what I had. He refused my services. I had worked around Mr. [Member Name Removed]'s mentally challenged daughter schedule the entire time I was working for him: Saturday meetings and phone calls after 9:00 PM. I put his family's needs before my own family needs every single time we needed to communicate. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I am amazed that of everyone that I was effected by my personal life, he reacted so rudely and so maliciously. What a sad, sad man.

It went very poorly. I paid her for more than 16 hours of her time, for which she did practically nothing. I never got any plans, and very few sample colors or fabrics. She did a lot of hand waving. She claimed I was the first client who didn't like her ideas or color schemes. She didn't return phone calls or emails, she was late for appointments. She sent me some plans after I complained about her services, and they were almost child like. She is very disorganized. I would not recommend her to anyone. I have asked her to return 1750 to me. I was very dissatisfied.
Description of Work: very little. drawings were unprofessional. very few selections, said I was the only client who didn't like her ideas. Didn't return phone calls or emails.

The client was presented three different options for a breakfast nook, family room and sun room. She was shown three floors plans for each room. She was shown three different color ways for each room that included area rugs, upholstery fabrics, furniture, lamps, florals and accessories. All of these were based upon a long and extensive phone interview that we did as well as meetings. The client not only changed her mind about what direction we had agreed upon but then wanted me to surrender all of my designs. She IS the first and ONLY client I have ever had in 15 years of business to not like what I showed her. She also would not let me find something that she DID like--a service that I offered to do for free.

Description of Work: Found Jill at a Home show and signed up for an in home consultation. Jill came out and gave really great ideas and spent several hours with us. That night we signed a contract for her to design one room in our house... never heard from Jill again. The consult fee that we paid was well worth her session and ideas, I just wish she had gone through with the rest of the design.

I met Jill at the Raleigh Home Show March 2012 and signed on for a follow up discussion regarding a living room makeover at her booth. Jill comes off as having great energy and enthusiasm but this later just showed up as lack of business skills and professionalism. Jill contacted me shortly after the home show and we had a phone interview in which she asked about our project and our lifestyle. On April 21st Jill came to our house whereby we formally entered into an agreement of service to include: designing 3 floor plans, furniture selection, material selection and purchase, fireplace upgrade (new stonework and closing up TV ledge), and some possible painting. She was told the budget of the project. After obtaining a non-refundable $100 deposit I did not hear from her again until late May and the excuses began. She did not make it to that appointment and called last minute because of a flat tire. She didn't reschedule b/c her family was going on vacation. The next time I heard from Jill it was June 7th. I asked her at that time before proceeding whether or not she had time for this project as things were not moving at the pace I expected. She assured me all was good. At the June 7th meeting we came away with a floor plan, made final selections on a rug, side table, couch and 2 side chairs. Jill was to do follow up by scheduling a meeting with her contractor to see what could be done about the fireplace and also follow up on other items of furniture that were still needed for the space: recliner which was a key must have for the floor plan,TV cabinet, tables, lightening and accessories. After taking a substantial down payment and payment for her services (my mistake for not reviewing the details better) Jill just disappeared. By late July, after no contact from Jill, I tried contacting her daily via email and voice messages at her office. It was not until my husband posted a message on her Facebook account that she finally got back with me. More excuses. According to her, for two months her email and voicemail systems were not working. Proof of no business sense. Why did I have to hunt her down in the first place? She should have been keeping in touch with me. August 30th I insisted we meet. At that time I find out that there was a problem with the fabric selection for the 2 side chairs that I thought were ordered back in June along with the couch. Because of the material issue they were never ordered and nor was the couch as it was coming from the same company. The only items that had arrive were a rug and a side table. Jill did nothing with my project from June until August and never kept me abreast of any issues. In an attempt to make up for things she gave me the contact information for her contractor so I could set up an appointment with him to look at our fireplace and give us ideas of what to do and a quote for work, she gave me the contact information for a representative at the Closet Factory so I could make an appointment with her about the TV cabinet and she sent me a picture of what she thought would be a good choice of stone for the fireplace. Thanks for the contact information but isn?t a designer suppose to be there to take control of the project to make sure it comes out correctly? I thought that is what I paid her for. Her contractor never did responded to my inquiries. On September after not receiving materials that were promised to me after our August meeting I wrote Jill and told her not to move forward on this project anymore as working with her was too painful. I had no intentions of dealing with her regarding tables and the rest of the items. My room is still missing ½ the furniture and accessories it needs to be completed. My husband and his uncle have taken on the fireplace project in order to get it done. It is now September 28th, 6 months after starting on this project and I have nothing to show for it except a hole in my pocketbook. My requests to come pick up the rug and side table so I can use the wood tone of the table to match the TV cabinet and finish this project myself have been left unanswered. Do not be pulled in by Jill?s robust personality and if you do advance with great caution and trepidation. Do not allow her to charge upfront for services she has not performed or like me she will leave you for other things. She is unorganized and lacks the ability to multitask. Possible litigation is pending if we cannot work things out between us. I have only requested that she hand over items that rightfully belong to me and have been fully paid for at this point.

Elements were to consist of: coming up with a mutually agreed upon floorplan, color selection, lighting and accessories, furniture selection and purchase, fireplace make over and possibly some painting of ceiling and walls. In response to the complaint filed by the member: I have apologized to the member for her finding me “painful to work with”. I have also refunded all of her money. And yet, she has still reported me to the BBB, Angie’s List and Houzz to date. When I created the tag like, “Making You Happy to be Home”, I meant it. No one should work with a designer that they don’t click with – sadly, this is the case here. The member didn’t need a designer and I should never have taken this job. This is why I refunded all of her money last week. I ask right up front for information that helps me determine style. I ask for budget. I ask for time line. I never received this information and it appeared that the member seemed very annoyed that I kept asking for it. It allows me to do my job to the best of my ability. Its what sets me apart from other designers. When the member didn’t give me that information, she set me up to fail. Regardless, she is the customer and she needs to be made happy. Attached please find a copy of my client log notes. It’s a record of what I have done and in some cases, need to do, for each project. What I hope that you will see is that the member’s start date is inaccurate and that she also had a hand in the project delay. I worked incredibly hard on this project, put in long hours and a lot of miles – just like I do for all of my clients. The member’s job was incredibly small in comparison to what I have on my plate now. The prudent thing would be to get her job over and done with so I can give that allotted space to another – and most likely – larger project. The delays in her project were bad not only for her but for my bottom line as well. On Tuesday, 25 September, I did something that I have never had to do before. I cancelled an order and refunded 100% of the client’s money…each and every dime. This included the design time fee! I also declared the contract null and void so that the member is free to take each and every penny that she put aside for this room and actually use ON THE ROOM. I took a huge financial loss on this job: not only did I spend money on gas and sample BUT I turned down two other jobs to continue to monitor hers. I have been told that these jobs were quite profitable for the designer I referred. I am also now having to pay legal fees as my reputation has been destroyed. I think the misunderstanding stems from the member’s not understanding of how long custom furniture takes to make and that I work alone – it literally is JUST JILL! I have never let a single piece of her project slip through the cracks. I just cannot answer each and every note within a ten minute window. But as I said: if I have client control issues, then the problem is with me. I hope that the Flemings find peace and can money on from this. I have acted professionally and in a manner that allows me to look at myself in the mirror each and every day. The member has been smearing my reputation on each and every site that she can get her computer on – SHE HAS BEEN FIVEN ALL OF HER MONEY BACK! ALL OF IT! Not because she asked for it. Not because she bullied me into it. Not because she has been slandering me all over the place. Because I wanted her to be happy. Happy to be Home.
