Don Hill's Lock and Safe

Easy to schedule, easy to change (due to delays). Well priced. Guys were professional and on time. They did a great job!

Everything went very well - from the arrangements on the phone to the timely arrival of the employee to the completion of the job. I especially appreciate that the keys for the storage areas were stamped with different markings so we can tell which keys are for the house and which keys go to different storage areas.

We thought we had 2 broken locksets - on the front door and on a sliding glass door - that we figured needed to be replaced. These were the original hardware for the house, and we dreaded long delays in ordering replacement parts, or hearing that they were too old and would need to be replaced.
After doing our research here on Angie's List, we called Don Hill's Lock and Safe first thing Monday morning. Even though it wasn't an emergency, they promised a technician on site by noon the same day. The tech (Chris) phoned 15 minutes before arrival and showed up punctually. He was professional, knowledgeable, and very friendly to work with. He carefully examined each lock and said they were not broken at all - they just needed to be cleaned and adjusted. We had had some foundation work done last year that had jacked up parts of the house. Apparently this caused parts of the locks to become misaligned or not fit together properly - until they and quot;frozeand quot; and appeared broken. Chris realigned all components, cleaned the lock mechanisms, and both locks worked perfectly again. While he worked, he answered all our questions, and volunteered a lot of helpful tips to keep the locks in good working order. He never stopped working to chat, and finished everything in about an hour.
Chris did not try to sell us replacement locks that we didn't need - or perform any unnecessary services. It is refreshing to find that this combination of professional expertise and honesty still exists. We will certainly call Don Hill's Lock and Safe for any future locksmith work, and recommend this company to our neighbors.

We needed to have this done immediately following a break-in, as we were leaving town the next day. The first company I called was unable to come on such short notice but Don Hill Locks was able to work us in to their schedule. The man who did the work was very professional. We were extremely pleased with the price and the results.

We called in the morning and it was clear that they were busy. However, they promised to be out that afternoon, which was fine with us. As it turned out, we got a call from Josh and he was able to come out late morning, which we really appreciated.
We have used them before, found them on Angie, and we will use them again if necessary. The key, (pun intended), is you don't need a locksmith often, but when you do, it is nice to have a company that is responsive.

Chris was timely, efficient and friendly. He did a very good job of replacing my locks ( I already had the hardware) and he even went so far as to repair the latch on my storm door. I would use Don Hill's Lock and Safe again and recommend them highly.

Not only did I get my spare microchip car key, I was given great advice and instruction! The employees were knowledgeable and kind. I will use Don's again.

They handled them with ease. Very impressive. Only complaint would be that later I found the dead bolt is hard to turn if you close the door normally. If you close it softly it locks easily, not the case if you close it with a little force. While disappointing, I didn't contact them about the issue because it's not a huge deal to me and I was able to fix by sanding the lock opening just a little bit. Easy fix. Overall, very good experience and would use again.

Service was arranged promptly and showed up on time. There was no major
work required, since I did not fully understand how to use the lock.
The serviceman explained it to me. On the way back to the van, he asked
me, and quot;What has Obama done for youand quot; and was clearly agitated over seeing
my Obama/Biden bumper sticker. After a few exchanges, in which he
basically called the President a terrorist, I went into the house and
wrote him a check. Totally inappropriate behavior.

The job went exceptionally well. We had two different locksmiths involved in the overall project and they were extremely personal, very informative, and very good at followup with questions asked post-installation.They took care to protect the area from any damage and cleaned up after completing their work. This is an outstanding company that I would strongly recommend for locksmith/key needs in the Durham area.

I could not lock or unlock 3 door deadbolts. I called Don Hill's expecting to have to replace all deadbolts. The person on the phone was extremely helpful, explaining the possible problem and cost to fix. I had checked Angie's list before calling and told the person on the phone I had a coupon from another locksmith for 10% off rekeying. She said they would honor the coupon for 5 %. The technician arrived the same day--less than 2 hours after the call--and completed the work. He was able to repair all deadbolts and only had to replace 1 lockset. The whole job took him about an hour. I was very pleased with the work done and the price. I would absolutely call them again.

Excellent service from start to finish. Booking the appointment was easy. Tech showed up promptly when they said he would. He listened to what I wanted, made recommendations and then proceeded to work efficiently. He did a great job and was very professional. I would definitely use this company again and would highly recommend them - well worth the money spent.

Specifically, they charge an $85 flat-fee, plus $10 per lock to change. They are extremely, professional, reliable, honest, and an overall great company.

As stated above, we were pleased with the service Don Hill provided from the beginning to the end. They were very helpful in obtaining the correct lock and installing it in the door. They worked very quickly, quitely, and precisely. There was no mess around. And again, the price was good. In summary, we were definitely very impressed with their professionalism!! We will definitely call them again if we need a locksmith again!.

The job should have been simple and routine but it wasn't. Things just didn't line up because of the previous installation of the old locks and also because of the slight difference in design between the old locks and the new ones. There were several options that Matt could have taken that would have been fairly quick but all of those options would have produced an inferior final result. Matt took the time to do the job right. Some of the problems needed two people to fix and James drove out from the office to assist. So even with all of the extra time and having to have two guys drive to our house from their office, they did not charge any extra for the service. Incredible! I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I would be putting A+ on everything but A is as high as it goes. Nice people who care about the quality of their work and stick with the estimate. This is a smaller family-owned company that has well qualified locksmiths with years of experience. Great people and a great company!

They came out and helped me figure out how to use the lock on my hatchback. They were nice enough to not charge me anything for the help!

The person who scheduled was professional and curteous on the phone.
The service person who came to our house (James) arrived on time and
rekeyed the 3 deadbolt and an additional lock in about half an hour. James
was very professional and efficient. We will use Don Hill's Locks again if we
need a locksmith.

The scheduling went fabulously, and I was able to meet the locksmith without waiting. He opened the door with a credit card, and proceeded to bang on the doorknob to remove it and fix the inner mechanisms. He did fix the lock, re-keyed the lock, and provided spare keys. My only complaint is that in the process of removing the doorknob to fix the locking mechanism he scratched up the doorknob, so in hindsight I probably shouldn't have bothered with having him re-key the lock since I'll probably replace the doorknob in the future. But overall, I was happy with the service.

We found them through Angie's List. We didn't need to have any major work done, but they were really good. We were very impressed. We couldn't ask for anything better.

When I called, the receptionist asked appropriate questions. Based the responses, she probed further and clearly knew exactly what services would be required. She indicated what she would do and when the service could be provided. They called to let me know that they were on the way. They showed up on time. Performed the repair quickly and cleanly. The price was reasonable. My only suggestion would be that you may want to ask the receptionist for an estimate of costs because that wasn't shared up front. However, the charges were shared before the work was done and the cost was reasonable.

They were fine. They arrived when they said they were going to arrive. They did the work that was supposed to be done. Their price was reasonable. I can't remember how much they charged. I would recommend them to somebody.
