Because the previous estimate was so high, we decided we should get another estimate. We selected the company from Angie's List. Bryant Durham Services came the next day and provided the diagnosis and estimate. They said they could do the work immediately and we accepted the estimate and they completed the work quickly and it was a dirty job. We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We highly recommend the services of Bryant-Durham Services. Our technician, Eric, was super. He gave us an accurate diagnosis and a very fair estimate for repairing our duct work, and performed the job in a timely, efficient manner. The previous estimate was 6 times the amount (they suggested replacing the entire system of ducts, which was totally unnecessary.) We were so pleased with every aspect of this company's work.

The job went fine. They were prompt. They called ahead and let me know when the prices would be increasing and what would be the rates and confirmed that I was good with that. The price was a little higher than what I was expecting but I think that they are very good.

They were good. They made time for me during the day. They charged for the house call but they didn't charge for the repair. The $89 is their base charge. They technically did something but it was so minor that he didn't charge for the repair. They were great. I called them at 2 pm and they went out of their way. The house call was a little bit pricey but I was willing to pay it because of their turnaround time. They fixed the problem within 10 minutes.
Description of Work: I used Bryant Durham Services to fix a switch that a carpet cleaning company had tripped a fuse earlier that day. My house is older and I didn't have any ground fault interrupters. Bryant discovered it was a switch outside and it wasn't obvious.

They sent someone right away. He went through everything and checked everything. He was here for a long time. I was pretty happy with the responsiveness. I’m not sure about the work yet, but I think he did a good job.

Technician could not find definite cause of tripping breaker. He suggested it might be caused by intermittent issue with LV lights connected to circuit. As he was leaving, I discovered there was no power to devices on circuit. He came back and determined that a GFI outlet on the circuit must be bad. He replaced it. Since then the breaker and GFI outlet have tripped once simultaneously. My conclusion is that there was a problem with the GFI outlet which he fixed, but it's separate from whatever is causing the breaker (and now GFI) to trip. I've contacted someone to come check out the LV wiring for problems. $300+ seems like a lot of money for what was accomplished. 11/2/11 addendum: I was contacted by Bryant-Durham to check on my satisfaction with their service. When I repeated the above story, they insisted on revisiting my home "under warranty" (i.e., at no charge) to investigate the problem. This time a technician and supervisor came and spent several hours correcting potential items that could be causing my problem. Time will tell if it's truly fixed, but no one could ask for better service. And, again, all this was done at no additional cost to me. I would certainly consider using Bryant-Durham again in the future.

The smoke detector in my home kept going off without reason so I needed someone to come out and take a look at it. I called several places, all of whom wanted $100 or more just to come to the house. I realized it was a small job and probably not a huge "money maker" so I called several places. Bryant's charge for coming to the house was the lowest. The electrician came to the house, checked the wires to make sure that there was no problem and gave me an on the spot quote. He told me it was a really simple job, would just take just a few minutes and outlined the costs. He didn't have a replacement smoke detector with him, and he went down the street to the a local supplier to purchase one for me. At first I was a little worried thinking he wouldn't come back for hours, but he called me while he was out buying it and let me know when he would return and why he was taking longer than he thought. Even with him leaving the house for 25 minutes, the whole job took less than an hour. He installed the new smoke detector quickly (under 5 minutes), tested it and was on his way.
Description of Work: The smoke detector in the townhouse I live in kept going off for no apparent reason. Bryant came out to check the wiring and to install a new one.

They gave me an appointment to diagnose/replace a lighting problem in our dining room. The team showed up on time and performed the work without problems. Because I had already purchased all of the materials (switch, light, bulbs), they just charged me for one hour labor. Also provided advice for other potential lighting jobs. Overall, a good experience and I would use them again.

They had to come out to my house multiple times because my unit was frozen. Despite this being my own fault, they only charged me for one visit. A different repairman came out for each visit and one was exceptionally professional and helpful, while the other was mediocre. However, both were very knowledgeable and clearly had my best interest in mind. I would definitely recommend them. Update: My fiance's a/c broke while he was out of town. I called Bryant due to positive prior experience. Joe came out and looked at my unit for quite some time before telling me that he had to come back tomorrow because he didn't have a part. He was very socially awkward and I had to ask him what part he needed to replace 5 times before receiving an answer. I asked him for an estimate, which took another hour. The estimate was almost $900 to replace a TXV, which is an expansion valve on the compressor (I only know this after googling, Joe was unable to explain). I was concerned and felt that I needed to get a second opinion and get my fiance's permission before spending that much money. Additionally, I found an a/c warranty from Bryant Heating and Cooling. I called the company and spoke to a female and explained my concern. She said that she would look for the warranty in her system and call me the next day. She said if she found the warranty, she would send someone out other than Joe. I spoke to her twice on Thursday evening. Friday morning, I received a call from Joe, telling me that he had almost completed the work and needed me to come over. I explained to him that i had spoken to the company and canceled the service. He told me he would call his manager and call me back. After not hearing back for 30 minutes, I called the manager directly. After explaining the situation, he said that he would call Joe and Joe would call me back. Joe called me and told me that they would give me the part for free and were only going to charge me for labor. I said that would be unacceptable and called the manager again. He put me on the phone with Bill, his boss (I assume the owner?) and he said that they would take the part out, return the old part, and only charge me for the initial visit. I expressed concern that this would void my Warranty. Bill called the company with whom I had the warranty, offered them the part and ensured that this debacle would not void my warranty. At that time, I was pleased with the resolution. When the gentleman came out who worked for the company with whom I had the warranty, he informed me that there was nothing wrong with my TXV, but that Joe had failed to leave it for them as promised anyway. Furthermore, this serviceman was appalled at the estimate that they gave me for labor for replacing the TXV, stating that it should only take about 20 minutes to replace, had there actually been a problem with it. It turned out that I had a minor leak in my coil and was thus low on anti-freeze. I had the choice of replacing the coil immediately or waiting, as it was a minor problem. We decided to do it immediately since we were still under warranty.
Description of Work: I had a blockage in my filter and they had to come out two times. They thawed my unit and checked all levels. They provided me with detailed list of my options, including costs for various times of the year. My issue was resolved. Update: Because I had a positive experience with this company, I called them when my fiance's a/c broke while he was out of town. - A repairman (Joe), came out and checked it. After hours of looking at it, he told me he would need to come back tomorrow with the part. I requested an estimate, which took another hour. After calling the company twice and cancelling my appointment with them the next morning, they called me the next day to inform me that the repair was almost completed. I spoke to a manager and then to his boss, who ultimately resolved the issue.

For over a year we had electrical outlets on the outside of the house and in the garage. Also, we wanted to replace very old porch and garage lights with new, motion-sensitive lights. Bryant's technician was able to diagnose and repair the outlets on the first visit, and gave us specific details about what to look for (ampage, wattage, size, type of bulb) for the kinds of lights we wanted. He returned on the date agreed upon, promptly, and installed our new lights. The price was fair, the work was good and the responsiveness from the office to the technician was excellent. We will definitely use them again.

We experienced a bizarre partial power outtage and were unable to isolate the problem as the circuit breakers weren't tripped during the event. Being a weekend and stuck without refrigeration or A/C we needed help. After googling 24 hr electricians we came across this company and tried them. They were very polite and helpful. The technician arrived at our house after finishing at another site about 45 minutes after my call and was able to determine the source of the problem. It turned out to be an issue with the power company but we never would have figured that out without help. We had a very positive experience in an emergency situation and would use them again.
Description of Work: The technician was able to determine that our power problem was with a main power leg running to our house from the power company.

They worked with us for a number of years. They used to charge a couple of hundred dollars a year. They were fine, but sometimes when I used to call, they were not very responsive about getting back to me. So, we went with a different company when we actually needed a new heat pump. When that happened, we kept trying to reach Bryant, but for some reason, we weren?t getting a call back. They were fine. They also put in a vent for us and ran a new line. They did that well too. They were just standard, price wise. Their punctuality was pretty good. It?s not that I would never use them at all, but I liked the company we went with better. However, I would consider using them again.

Outstanding job. Their dispatcher called first thing the next morning, approx 8:15 to followup and see if we needed someone to come out right away. This really solidified our belief that they intend to provide good service!
Description of Work: I called their emergency line at 2:00 AM due to a beeping fire alarm that I could not silence, despite installing new batteries to all alarms in the house, and replacing the one alarm unit I suspected of being bad. Their service line was prompt and took good notes and within 10-15 minutes a technician (Eric) called to discuss what I needed. He offered to come out immediately, although he was unsure whether he had parts that I might need, since he had not seen the problem yet. He walked me through a reset operation, involving throwing & resetting circuit breakers and uninstalling one alarm, which silenced the alarm for the night. About 5 minutes later, he called to say he had thought of another step that might prevent one of the "good" alarms from also sounding an alarm before morning, which was a great catch on his part. We slept the rest of the night and took care of the problem in the AM by using his suggestions. I selected them as they were the only company in the yellow pages for our area with 24-hr service advertised, who also answered the phone at that hour. Based on this experience, where they clearly went beyond the ordinary, I plan to use them in the future for any other electrical issues I have. Great job and great customer focus!

First I called and they were not open so I left a message at the desk. My phone call was returned promptly on their next day of business and I set up an appointment over the phone. They came over last Tuesday and stayed true to their quoted time frame in which they said that they would be over (which is a huge thumbs up for me). The man that came over was very polite and professional and did a great job staying on task and completing the service in a timely matter. Overall we had a pleasant experience with this company.

I have a home in Raleigh that I stay at on frequent work trips. Since that is not my primary home, I am not there all the time to keep an eye on things. I had Bryant Durham Services install an alarm system for this reason. Well, last night we had a break-in. I was alerted immediately via phone call and the alarm must have scared them off because to my knowledge nothing is missing. I want to compliment them on their speedy response when the break-in happened as well as their reliable alarm! Without the alarm going off, who knows what would have happened! (I wasn't charged for the alarm going off, hence my amount spent being "zero")

They were pricey but they were professional and they are good at what they do. I don?t have other quotes or estimates to go on, but I would say it was worth the money. There were a couple snags that raised the price but I don?t begrudge paying the extra money because it was for my house and my family?s safety. They were nice, they were professional, and they did a great job.
Description of Work: Bryant-Durham moved a 200 amp service panel from our bedroom to my shop in the basement. It was a pretty big job.
