My home's first floor ceilings are high - so I rarely use my air conditioning because the temperature is comfortable for me. With family visiting, I turned on the AC and realized that there was no cool air on either levels (upstairs or downstairs). I contacted Bryant-Durham Services and an appointment was scheduled within 2 days. Mr. Shawn Hackney arrived on time and was very professional and extremely competent. My upstairs AC unit is 25+ years old, but has been used very little. He was able to assess and fix it's control unit and add the needed freon. My other unit is only 5+ years old and the freon level was at zero. He checked for leaks and added freon. I was very pleased with his willingness to answer my numerous questions and concerns.

Our home has four heating/cooling systems; we replaced two of the cooling systems. We got several estimates and Bryant Durham's was competitive, if not slightly lower than the others. I chose BD based on my instinct after dealing with Daniel Porterfield, who came out for the estimate and patiently answered my and my husband's numerous, detailed questions over a period of two weeks before we made our final decision. I even brought to him details about types of coil, tonnage of units, that other companies' estimators raised and he explained the differences among the estimates. In calculating the tonnage of the units needed, he came out a second time, did extra measurements, sought the advice of his in-house engineer, before making the final recommendation. I really felt as though they took our needs seriously. All the BD employees I worked with, including Daniel and the installers, were personable and I felt comfortable having them in my home. Also careful to cover their shoes before coming in. I was disappointed that the installation spilled over into the second day, instead of being completed in one day as originally estimated, but I can't fault them for being thorough. Wouldn't want them to rush through the job! And currently, our house is cool and comfortable!

Overall it was a good experience, contractor went to wrong address initially but apologized and we were able to sort all the details out. It cost $160 to replace a switch though (diagnostics was $89, replacement and part (which cost $5?) was $79, which I would say is pretty steep.

This is my second time using Bryant Durham and the second time they have done a very good job. Demetrius was on time and again did a very professional job. The price was slightly higher than I was hoping to pay, but part of that was due to specific conditions in my home's wiring, and part was due to the high inspection costs in Durham County ($125). I think there might be cheaper electricians out there, but Bryant Durham does the job right the first time. I will continue to use them and to recommend them to others.

Our heat pump stopped working the morning of New Year's Eve. The HVAC technician said the disconnect box had to be replaced among other things. We were able to get a technician from Bryant-Durham on short notice to do the work. He showed up on time, replaced the disconnect box and cleaned up afterwards.

I have only good things to say about the people I dealt with at Bryant Durham. The folks on the phone were friendly and polite and the technician, Demetrius, was very friendly and explained the process to me. He was punctual and worked hard to finish the project quickly. He worked around the schedule of the water heater installers and completed the rewiring promptly. The gentleman from the plumbing company who installed our water heater went out of his way to complement the work Demetrius did. He said that he regularly sees shoddy electrical work done but that the work Demetrius did was "outstanding." My only minor quibble is that the price for the job was maybe a bit high, but in the end it was well worth it. I would certainly recommend Bryant Durham to others.

Our downstairs gaspack was not working when we woke up. I called the company that morning and they were able to coordinate with me the best time to come out that day which was very helpful. The blower motor was bad and they replaced it and I asked them to also perform routine service to my two units. It was all pretty straightforward and I had heat within two hours of them arriving. I have since signed up for their bi-annual servicing of my Heating A/C units.

I had several small electrical problems to fix: a malfunctioning fixture in a closet, an inoperative fixture in a laundry room, and an erratic ceiling fan. The fix for the malfunctioning fixture was to replace the entire fixture. The new fixture provides a great deal more light in our master closet, which turned out to be a fantastic idea. The fix for the other two problems was to replace the wall switches. The service visit was two months ago, and his fixes have been absolutely effective. The service was exactly what I would ask for. Demetrius listened to my description of the problems, troubleshot them without delay, and was professional at all times. His skill and experience were evident. Demetrius suggested that I pay a time-and-materials rate, instead of the per-problem rate. Bryant-Durham charged $90 diagnostic fee, so the time-and-materials cost $250 for about two hours of work (including a trip to Home Depot for the light fixture). This saved substantial money over the per-problem rate, but I'm still a bit awed by the total cost ($340) for this amount of work (thus the B rating for price). In fairness, if I had spent more time doing my homework on the 'going rate' for these kinds of fixes, I would know whether this is an average cost for this work (or not). Regardless, I'm happy with the outcome and I'll call them again for future electrical help (after I do a bit of price homework!)

My downstairs heat stopped working on a Saturday night. Fortunately it was a mild weekend, so i was able to wait until Monday morning to call someone to fix it. This was my first time contacting Bryant Durham Services. I called at approximately 8 am on Monday morning, and they had someone here by 9:30. The technician was pleasant and professional, got right to work, and sorted out the problem. He even showed me the part that was no longer functioning and described why it had gone out. He had a replacement part with him, and the job was done and the heat was working again within the hour. He even replaced a crawlspace lightbulb that had gone out with a spare one he happened to have in the truck, free of charge. I received an itemized statement of work and parts, with associated costs. I felt the charges were quite fair. This was a great experience and I will definitely call on Bryant Durham in the future.

It went very well, as described above.
Description of Work: A large tree limb had fallen on the wire carying current to our house. The weight of the limb pulled the wire and the wire and the pipe carrying the wire from the 2nd story of the house. The wire was down across the driveway. Bryant Durham came quickly, gave a flat fee estimate and reattached the wire to the 2nd story . They also coordinated with Duke power so that the power was off for only a few hours. Duke had to inspect the installation before the power could be turned back on. The fee was high for the number of hours required, but the workman came immediately , worked quickly, knew what he was doing, had all the equipment necessary for the job and knew what to do.

I have hard-wired smoke detectors in my house that started going off intermittently late in the afternoon. They would start and continue for a few minutes, then stop (seemingly after I tinkered with them). But then after a while they went off again. This continued for a few hours, so I called Bryant Durham Services. I found them on Angie's List and they were one of the few electricians in my area with regular evening hours (so I could avoid extra charges for an emergency call). Bobby arrived as promised within 30 minutes. He was very professional and courteous. He checked out each smoke detector, and explained to me that household smoke detectors have a life expectancy of about 10-12 years, which was news to me (although I was able to verify this later on the FEMA website). Since my house is 11 years old, I asked him to replace them all. He went to purchase them but called me first to discuss pricing, to make sure that I was satisfied with the cost. When he came back, he replaced them all quickly, and left me with the peace of mind that I would be able to sleep through the night without alarms going off! I found this company to be reliable and trustworthy, very professional and reasonable priced. I have a few additional jobs I need to have done in the coming months, and intend to use Bryant Durham Services!

Had lighting fixtures that didn't work and several outlets in the kitchen that didn't work. They assessed the problems quickly. While they were working on the outlets I went out to buy a new light fixture and they installed it right away.

Our AC system was not cooling the house adequately, so I set up an appointment to check it out and to look over the heating system before fall. The technician called 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time to confirm his arrival and showed up at my home promptly. He asked about any problems before checking the unit. When he found a leaky valve and low coolant pressure , he explained the problem and gave a cost estimate before proceeding. The two times he came into the house to check and set the thermostat, he wore protective booties. He was very professional and courteous throughout the service call. I have used Bryant Durham in the past and will do so again.

The hanging light fixture in my kitchen nook quit working. I called a couple of companies listed on Angie's List - one would not be able to come out for an evalutaion for at least a week. Narrowed the search for a more local company and read the reviews. This company had responded to a prior member with service above and beyond, correcting any issues. When I called Bryant Durham Services, they offered to come out THE NEXT MORNING! The contractor arrived at the promised time, did the initial evaluation, identified the problem, and had the appropriate replacement parts with him. He gave me the repair estimate, and accepted the Angie's List coupon for $25 dollars off. I approved the repair work, and he completed it in no time. I was given a company brochure, and additional coupon for another discount in the future, and advised of their other services (which are extensive). They also provided me with a refrigerator magnet. They offer 24-hour emergency service. I was extremely pleased with the entire experience, most of all that my problem was solved at a reasonable price. The rapid response was "icing on the cake." Besides doing the job as promised, his clean up included picking up some junk left by previous workers, and he noticed smoke coming out of a large trash bin being used for disposing of waste during construction of an addition to my house, and he didn't stop for a second before grabbing a hose and dousing the small fire that someone had started with careless disposal of hot material. I gave him an A for pricing. I can't really say whether his price was low or high. On line, the 400 amp boxes are very expensive and I can tell you he worked his tail off. Plus the work what done on an emergency basis if we wanted power for the weekend. But there was no way that I could comparison shop for the best price. He did more than the work he had quoted, for the quoted price. For that he gets an A.
