Bizios told us they wanted to make sure they understood fully our needs and hopes for the renovation. So they provided both my husband and me with very lengthy and detailed questionnaires to complete separately. They made a big deal about how we should fill them out honestly, completely and separately to ensure they have everything they need to understand what we want. We thought this showed a great attention to detail and were hopeful that this would ensure that our requirements would accommodated with minimal confusion. It turns out that all the time and trouble we went through to answer the questions were a complete waste. They completely ignored critical statements we made such as "we absolutely HATE large windows in the bathroom when we value privacy so much". And they proceeded to spend a lot of time and our money drawing the master bath off of our front porch with big and multiple windows in the shower, over the tub and next to the toilet all viewable by anyone standing on the porch. Unfortunately, we wasted a lot of time and money with them actually fighting over what we wanted for our own house because they seemed more interested in drawing what THEY thought would be beautiful instead of what was practical for our lifestyle and budget. Even worse, they kept making drawings that were not structurally sound and that would require even more money for an engineer to change them to even make them possible! In the end, we asked if they would draw what we wanted, and they said they couldn't be bothered. They are only interested in working for people who do not want to participate in the design of their own home and who are willing to write blank checks to get it. So we found a designer named Heather Hall who worked closely with an engineer and in less then 2 weeks, drew up builder grade plans for exactly what we wanted. And she charged us less than $1000.00! Stay far away from Bizios and other local architects that try to sell their "expertise" at a premium. Hire an engineer and a talented designer like Heather for a fraction of the cost, far better quality, and a lot less stress!
