I spent $89 on the job. I would recommend them to others because they show up on time and do good work. I would hire them again in the future.

I thought the price was a tad high. The deal is, because they also do the HVAC and everything else if you have your HVAC service with them they give you a good discount, otherwise they are priced a little high. I thought the price was a little high, but they were one company who came out in, when I was in a bad situation. My mother is disabled and when her toilet went off; I called them and explained everything. They were very good in listening to what I had to say and assured me that they would take care of it. They did it fine and there were no problems. They went over the board and did things for me. I will use them again in future for plumber.

We initially had some problems with the installation because of the limited space in which the inside unit was being installed. The installers had the unit turned the wrong way because it would not fit. ARS sent another technician the next day who resolved the problem. They also came back to install an overflow shut-off switch in the drain pan so that the floor would be protected in case of a problem with the condensate pump. We were initially concerned about the installation problems, but the local ARS General Manager, Jeff Guard, was helpful in resolving the issues and made sure that we were happy with their service and the installation. I will say that the hybrid unit suggested by ARS was exactly what we needed for our house and the climate of our area. It works well for our needs and is a very efficient system. They also suggested an electronic air filter system which is perfect for our older home and because of the pets living with us in our house. We have noticed a difference in the quality of the air in our house. Thanks, ARS for those suggestions. We have recently had a 6-month check of the system and were very pleased with the technician ARS sent to do the check. He was punctual and professional and made sure we understood what he was doing. The unit checked out with no problems.
Description of Work: ARS installed a new Carrier Comfort Series Hybrid heating and air conditioning system in a house we were renovating. They also installed an Aprilaire electronic air filer system.

When we determined we needed to replace our HVAC system we got about 6 quotes from local vendors. We got quotes from Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears, and 3 more local contractors. ARS represents Home Depot and there representative was on time and spent approximately one and a half hours explaining in detail about the new system and how it worked. We were also able to negotiate the best price with ARS compared to the other vendors. ARS installers were on time the day they installed our unit, were courteous and explained everything and answered all our questions. They cleaned up around the new unit and hauled off the old unit. They have also contacted us a couple times to be sure we were satisfied. We were very satisfied with ARS and would recommend them to others.

They've always done a good job. They show up when they say they will show up. They seem to be very careful when they work in the house. We are having one little issue and I don't know why he hasn't called me back, but I haven't paid him so I don't mind he hasn't called me back. The price of $4800 for the furnace includes a thermostat, when the guy went to install the new thermostat he realized that the thermostat that was there was only 6 months old and was installed when we replaces the AC units. I told them I either wanted a price adjustment because I"m not getting the thermostat or I want the thermostat to keep as a spare. They said they would get back to me and that's the last I heard. The one thing I would mind is if they won't give me the thermostat or a discount, but they haven't said that yet. So far, so good. I didn't go price shopping and I probably could have found a better price, but as far as I'm concerned it's okay.
Description of Work: I had a lot of work done by ARS / Rescue Rooter Durham. They replaced 3 AC units and most recently they replaced a furnace.

Scheduling always prompt and courteous. Workers very professional and pleasant. They clearly explain what they are doing and provide good documentation. Work tends to be of excellent quality and problems get addressed and fixed to my satisfaction. Financing (for the new HVAC system) was very helpful and quick. Very high "visit" costs seem designed to cajole you into buying their service contract, but the service contract doesn't actually provide much in the way of value added services. So, it's kinda a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. That part I resent.
Description of Work: 1) Installation of a new upstairs heating/cooling system that complies with "Green" standard along with installation of new thermostat for the upstairs area to control this. 2) Various repairs to my heating/cooling system when I have had mechanical problems. It is these visits in particular and the high cost of simply coming out to evaluate the problem that caused me to give the low grade on price. It is something like 200 for the visit when, on one occasion, fixing the problem took two minutes. And that was on the brand new system that they had installed.

They out and did a survey based on our needs for a new Heating and Air Conditioning. That is what really differentiated them from other companies we talked to in that they listened to our problems, analyzed the house and provided us with a estimate of what needed to be done to correct my problem not just replace the system I had with a duplicate system. Installation was great, they arrived on time, did their work and cleaned up. All committments were met and on time.

When my a/c broke last year in the July heat, I called ARS as they had been servicing our pre-existing system. They came out the next day and provided 3 options but said that the dual heating system we opted for, while being the most expensive would save us money on our bills. Once installed, it took 3 inspections for the system to pass muster, and even then, it was only because I told the inspector it was okay with me if every time the system went on, the lights blinked. They did try to fix this several times, but nothing helped anyway. The bills, by the way, used more energy and thus were higher every single month, despite this being a new more efficient "greener" system than the one we had before. Then just a year after this new system was put in, it broke. Lo and behold, I find out an important part was left off during the installation. So they come in and put one in. It still doesn't work right. About 5 calls later, we find out the new thermostat was broken too. It all just seems like A LOT of hassle for a supposedly top of the line product. Finally they tell me that the two zones should be set no more than 5 degrees apart from each other, which they failed to tell me before. Well one area we're in constantly and one is used only when we have guests. The whole reason we split it into 2 areas was so we didn't have to cool and heat an unused area, which we told them when they designed the zone system. Anyway, my point is that the system doesn't do what it was supposed to, was not put in correctly, broke in about a year, and had trouble passing inspection. So while several of the workmen who came were professional, curteous, and competant, some were not and the whole experience left something to be desired.

Everything was fine. They got it all done and cleaned up. They put in the new thermostat, and came back a few days later to put in the new air cleaner. They were very professional. When I found I was supposed to have an added detector they were to deliver in the am but they called in pm to reschedule. When I called this am to reschedule I was given what I consider attitude especially since everyone else I talked to were as polite and helpful as could be. Two hours after my second call this am I had my unit.
Description of Work: They put in a new AC and furnace. I had one problem, and they made that good. They mistakenly removed the air cleaner at the same time that they took the other stuff out. When they realized that, they replaced everything with new equipment.

We cancelled the contract and requested a refund for the 150 wasted service call. Have called twice and cannot get a response-or refund-so far. The contract was not cancelled based on this 1 experience. I was sick to death of them trying to sell us something everytime they came out, whole house air filter, attic fans, dehumidifiers, dust removers, extra safety switches, etc always something. Additionally they continually told me the carrier units that had worked fine for 9 years were crap, cheapest contractor-grade units made and suggested they should be replaced. Know many people that spend 15k to replace working units? A&E and Allen Kelly seem like true professionals.
Description of Work: Immediately after having a semi-anual check performed to catch and prevent costly repairs, the unit was surging. We called them back paid ~150 and they found nothing wrong said everything was fine. The same same we noticed surging again. We called A&E and their serviceman heard the unit before he ever saw it from 50 ft away and identified the probable cause. His inspection revealed bad contacts in a panel as he suspected. He said it was a common problem with these Carrier units primarily due to the location at the bottom of the unit. Replacing the panel cost about 500. It's been about a month and the problem has not recurred. Dates and prices are approximate. I can research and provide exact dates and prices if necessary.

I had one brief with them that was a rapid one. They were not able to go through the crawl space on one part of my house which does not have lot of space so the guy came out and once he got under he wasn’t able to complete the job. He didn’t charge anything. He also recommended someone. They were very good especially when they weren’t able to do it, they recommended someone else. Actually what happened was that I had an outside faucet that had cracked during the last fall due to weather and I realized it once everything started coming apart. Then I had to turn the water off then call people to repair it. I really didn’t want to go through the entire weekend without water. They got somebody out so quick; they figured out the situation and said that they couldn’t help. Then they recommended somebody else. I didn’t spend anything as they weren’t able to do it. I called them late on a Friday afternoon and they called me immediately back. They told me that they would be here within an hour and they were here within an hour.

I’ve had a contract with them on my heating and air conditioning system for a number of years now. They are usually punctual. They are professional. They do a thorough job and give me an explanation of what’s going on with the system. I dislike that they are a bit pushy. I have an old system and they say that I need a new system. There’s really nothing wrong with the system. It’s just that it's older. They want to up sell. It’s not terrible. I wouldn’t tell people not to use them because of that. I value their reliability. My system hasn’t had any downtime since they’ve started taking care of it. I would put that as a minor negative point and not as a reason not to use them. I have a contract with them and I still plan on using them regularly.

ARS saved the day!!! A year ago we purchased a new central A/C (all components, including furnace, etc.) from Artisan Comfort Systems. Initially there were delays caused by Artisan; then when the job should have completed, they discovered a broken part. Since by then it was 7pm on the Friday before the long July 4th weekend, we had to go another long, hot 4 days without A/C. The A/C died again exactly 1 year and 2 weeks from the installation date. Artisan was completely unwilling to work with us on any type of arrangement; as far as they were concerned, the warranty ended 2 weeks prior and that was that. Since I knew it would be costly to repair, I went through my home warranty company, who assigned the job to ARS. THANK GOODNESS FOR ARS! ARS discovered the broken component, but learned that Trane makes these parts upon request and it could take up to 5 days for the part to be completed. After several days, I became quite frustrated with the fact that Trane would not provide an estimated ship date, which I had requested to aid in planning for how much longer my family needed to be out of the house. I was also frustrated to have paid so much for this system, only to have had broken components both at install and again barely a year later, and couldn't understand why they couldn't take a part from another existing system. The ARS Parts Manager (Bill) was a life saver! He not only patiently listened to me vent (even though neither he nor ARS were the cause of any of the problems) but intervened on my behalf as much as possible. He worked with the ARS Trane rep, and was able to arrange for the entire outdoor unit to be replaced. In addition, he told me that the system had never been registered with Trane, which meant that instead of a 10 year warranty on parts, I only had a 5 year warranty on parts. He usually does this on behalf of ARS customers; Artisan not only hadn't done this on my behalf, they hadn't even bother to tel me that I needed to do it! Bill took care of this, too, and now I have a registered system which includes the full parts warranty. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone to ARS for initial installation. I can't go back, but we will most definitely be contacting ARS for all of our service needs in the future.
Description of Work: ARS performed a leak test on a central A/C that was not working at all, and worked with Trane to provide replacement parts. This review is regarding the fabulous work and customer service provided by ARS, but I went through my home warranty company, which is why the price was so low.

They are very professional - scheduling and punctuality are outstanding and make it very easy to do business. However, the last time we engaged them was when they volunteered to quote a tankless hot water heater while they were out working an HVAC repair. When I compared their quote and recommendations to another company - I was shocked at their higher pricing. Also, the other company explained the pros/cons of using two different systems whereas ARS only promoted one of them. That left me with a sour taste and I have since dropped their service.

Annual A/C checkup. Sold me an overflow cut-off switch for $189, and wired it in. After they worked on the wiring, the A/C didn't work. Visited to fix it - said he found the problem. Then the heating didn't work. Third visit with two men - said they found a shorted out wire. A few days later, AC not working again. Currently looking for another company to get a second opinion. I'm not sure of the competence of the ARS folks anymore after two extra visits. On the plus side, they did send me a partial refund of $89 for the inconvenience. I got another company to come out - found what was probably the problem - dates back several years to poor original installation by ARS.
Description of Work: Annual A/C checkup. Convinced me to buy an overflow cut-off switch for $189 for the condensate drain, and wired it in. Before their visit everything was working fine. Afterwards, I had problems. See story below.

After getting the quotes I did some research. I found out the ARS technicians get paid extra for the extras they sell. The prices I was quoted were about 25% more than others I received. Although ARS personnel are polite, clean, on time, etc., my wife and I always feel like they are trying to put one over on us. I cannot say that there is anything wrong with their work. That being said, my perception is that something doesn't feel right.
Description of Work: We received a call from ARS stating that we could receive a discount on our maintenance contract if we renewed and scheduled service prior to April 1. We did that and after performing the service we were informed that our gaspack unit needed to be replaced, as it had developed a coolant leak. A project manager arrived and said he would give us several quotes for new units. He came back the next day with the quotes. I felt that I was being pressured to make a decision right there and then.

Description of Work: I used ARS/Rescue Rooter 2 weeks ago. I had to have my main line under my house for plumbing cleaned out. Description of Work: Our shower was leaking. The pipe was actually twisted from where my husband had tried to fix it, so ARS had to cut a section out and replace it, as well as replace the faucet handle. Also our jacuzzi tub was leaking down onto ceiling of dining room below the tub. He tightened all drain pipes and made sure this was no longer leaking.
