I first went to the website and filled out a request for an estimate, after 3 days I received no response. So I then called and talked to someone, he took the same information the website had taken, name, address, phone #, email etc. He informed me that someone would contact me to set up a day to come out and talk about my roof. It has now been 10 days and no contact. I would have appreciated a call saying they were to busy to fit me into their schedule, but no response is very unprofessional. I am glad I am going to go with someone else if this is their level of quality.

We moved into a new house in Chapel Hill in the summer and immediately experienced an historic wet season and 100-year flood event. Our gutters were clogged and mold began growing on the doors, windows and eaves of our beautiful house. I called American Craftsmen and despite the weather and high demand they were able to work us into their schedule in a reasonable time. They came out and inspected the house, discussed our options and gave us a very reasonable estimate. We have a large two-story house with lots of surfaces to clean, and we also wanted to be sure to not damage the cedar siding. Their crew came out and cleaned all the gutters, made some repairs, and washed the entire house, including the large wooden deck. The pressure-washing alone was a mammoth undertaking. Props to these guys, they got the job done and the house is back in shape. Of course it stopped raining right when we finished :) Highly recommend these guys.

They were good. They are very nice people to deal with, the window installation went very smoothly, and we love our new windows.

I liked the contractor that came out. I think he was the owner. He explained things pretty well to me. He had a pretty good and honest manner. He did not try to up sell me other stuff. He seemed like a pretty good guy. They did a good job. I don't have any complaints. He did not call me after the job, but that is understandable. The price seemed pretty fair.

There were no significant problems with the installation. One issue that did require some discussion and negotiation was the requirements for properly ventilating the attic after the new roof was installed. The old roof had eave vents on each end and several exhaust fans to cool the attic. With the new roof, we changed to a passive roof ridge vent system. I assumed they would know to install soffit vents to properly vent the attic, but we had to talk about that. Regarding quality, the roofing products they used, Certainteed, are very good with an excellent warranty. The work appears to have been done well and they did a good job cleaning up when the job was finished. As for price, I got four quotes. They were the second most expensive, but had very good reviews on Angie's List, so they seemed like a good bet. The contract I signed for the work states that he company has a 5 year workmanship warranty. A little over 2 years after the new roof was put on, we developed a leak around one of the sky lights in the master bathroom. I called the office, explained the problem, and they sent a couple of guys out 2 days later to fix it without charge.

I called America Craftsmen to schedule a metal roofing quote for my house, detached garage, and detached shed. I left a message and was contacted by one their estimators to schedule a time for the estimate. We agreed upon a time, and he called the day of the estimate and said he would not be able to make it. We rescheduled to the following Friday, and again, I received a call on the day of the estimate saying that he could not make it. I asked if he could come the following Monday and he said he could. On Monday he did not show up, and he did not call to say he was not going to be coming. I was surpirsed by the lack of professionalism given the positive feedback they have received on Angie's.

We were very happy with our dealings with this company. They kept us well informed of their progress throughout. The installation went smoothly and clean-up was conducted quickly and thoroughly. The price for what was done was, we think, very reasonable. We would be happy to deal with them in the future.

Our gutters were separating from the house so we called American Craftsmen based a search on Angie's list. When Steve came to give an estimate he asked if we had damage from the 5/1/2012 hail storm. He provided an estimate for the gutter work but advised me to call my insurance company to check for roof damage from the hail storm. The insurance company came and advised we did have damage and roof work was needed. I felt Steve had advised me well and I reached back out to Steve again for an estiamate for the roof work. American Craftsman performed the work quickly and cleaned up each day. If I didn't see the change in the roof I would have never known they were there during the day when I got home from work. I would recomment American Craftsman.

Overall, the work from start to finish met my expectations. I have owned several homes previously on which I had gutter systems installed, and I have never had a better quality of workmanship on a gutter system than the one done by Moses of American Craftsmen of NC. It was cold on the day he was scheduled to install gutters and downspouts on the house and garage, and then it started to rain in a downpour. Moses carefully laid out the gutters and checked and re-checked his work. I offered to have him come back another day to finish the work because of the weather, but he stayed and finished the job. He understood how I wanted the water pitched away from the foundation and he did a great job at meeting my specifications. Thank you.

Overall--service ok. However service rep called me on Thurs (14th) to say they would be there Sat (16th)--then no one showed up, and no one called. On Mon (18th) they just showed up that afternoon without calling.

Steve was prompt to return my call and came over and looked and what we needed. We had an estimate that day. We had rotten wood behind the gutters. He gave us estimates on what we had to have done and what we might want to have done. It was a very thorough estimate and he was extremely nice and polite. The workmen were very prompt and efficient. I never even knew they were here. They were not at all intrusive and the work was done very well. Steve even came over afterwards to explain part of the bill we didn't understand. Outstanding job.

Gave me a quick and accurate estimate. Work was done well. i was told work would be done on a particular day (2/8/13), but they did not get to do it, and they did not inform me. As I was not at the residence, I was unaware that the work was not done on time. They responded quickly after I called and got it done within a few hours.

They did all of the outdoor siding work, fitting, and trimming, leaving a beautiful window, ready for paint. I am very pleased. It was hard to find a company that would install a new window as opposed to replacing an existing window. I got the work done the week I needed it done ,and they left no mess for me to clean, except maybe a little dust from the drywall cutting.

We had a leak in our roof that was very difficult to pinpoint the problem. American Craftsmen started slowly, to try to save me money, before moving to a more extensive repair. Ultimately we did need to do a more expensive repair (which was still reasonable) and they cut me a break as I had already spent some money with them. The repair was made and I am no longer leaking! Would definitely use again!

I met with the company representative at my home and we discussed putting on a new roof, based on the leaking areas pointed out by my home inspector. He was great discussing the company, because I had a lot of questions about liability in case of injury to his workers, as well as how the whole procedure would work. I would bet I talked for about an hour. I felt like I could trust them to do a great job. As a matter of fact, I had to work the three days they worked on the house, so I never actually experienced the noise and work crew. I just checked out the finished product, which was excellent. The company sent Barry to meet with me after and look at the product, answer questions, and take care of the bill. No money was exchanged unless I was happy with the finished roof.

They were excellent and able to find a leak that was causing damage. They kept at the work until they were able to solve the problem. They were very prompt, efficient and thorough.

Mike Graham was super from the day of the estimate through completion of the work. He answered all of my questions during the initial meeting. He was very good at explaining features and options. Cody, Scotty and the rest of the crew that came to install were wonderful. They carefully removed all the window treatments including drapes, swags, cornices, plantation shutters, and Roman shades and then rehung everything. to perfection once the windows were installed. They removed all the old single pane windows and the doors that were original to the house when it was built in the mid-60s. The new vinyl window look gorgeous both inside and out. The new doors are also beautiful. The crew did an excellent job cleaning up both inside and out. They started and finished on time. This was an great experience from start to finish and I'm really enjoying my new windows and doors.

Do be patient if you do not hear from someone the same day that you call

We had a fairly large job of siding, roofing and painting (30-35K) and selected four contractors at the top of Angie's list. I sent a request to be contacted via American Craftsman's website and waited. No response. About three weeks later, and after I'd gotten estimates from two of the other three contractors, I sent American Craftsman another request via their website. Again, no response, ever. Either business is real good, or they have a problem with their website. Could I have called? Sure, but I ended up using DH Contruction instead. So far, so good with them. Update - thank you for your explanation. I have updated my response to reflect the professionalism you demonstrated.

I was thoroughly impressed and appreciative of the personal service and professionalism Rodney, the owner, displayed in dealing with me and my issue. Given the recent and impending rainstorms we were experiencing, I was eager to remedy this leak before significant damage was done, and Rodney seemed sympathetic to my situation. He was a pleasure to interact with, and he willingly bantered on several not-necessarily-pertinent topics, which I found to both be enjoyable and help defuse the tension that is all too common between most contractors and a defensive customer feeling vulnerable given their situation where the timetable takes precedence over contractor selection and price. In spite of my situation, I felt I got the right contractor, providing the right service at the right price, which is more than I expected given previous experiences. Rodney came out the same day I contacted him to evaluate a small leak around a skylight which started after several days of good rainfall. Impressive, given it was early afternoon when I called him in Durham, and I live in Cary, which is not the drive you want to make knowing the rush hour traffic that will be encountered on the way back to the office. He showed up when he said he would, and found the likely culprit to be exposed nails devoid of sealant in the skylight flashing. He felt an application of sealant would be a logical first step before spending potentially unnecessary money to further investigate. While present, I asked him to evaluate the integrity of all vent boots, as well as some worn/torn shingles. He pointed out where several of the boots have developed cracks and required repair. Rodney suggested I have a "roof tune up" performed, which would address all of these issues- sealing of cracked boots, sealant applied to all exposed nails, and replacement of the torn shingles (which I had on hand), as well as addressing nail pops. Rodney called his roofing crew supervisor, and asked them to send some crew members over the following day during lunch break at another job. While I was not present to observe the services being performed, I did walk the roof afterward and was impressed with their attention to detail. Nothing was missed. Rodney asked me to contact him after a few good rainfalls to let him know if the leak was resolved. Indeed it was. Simply a great experience from beginning to end, and my friends and real estate contacts will be provided with their name.

Slight delay in getting some materials from the manufacturer but that was beyond the control of this company. Work was done quickly once materials were there. Cleanup afterwards was thorough.

They did what they were supposed to do. They were a little late in getting started, but I think it was weather related. They came in on budget. They did a good job, I am satisfied so far. The initial contact was later than they said. They got back in touch with us after leaving a message two times. Once we got in touch with them, there were no problems.

I first met with Steve, the rep for American Craftsmen of NC (ACNC). I came to find out he was a former employee for a homeowners insurance provider. He knew what I was in for when dealing with my insurance company and was immensely helpful. He took picture on the first visit knowing that my insurance would ask for them. My insurance initially wanted to spot repair the roof. Steve went the extra mile to fight for the complete replacement of my roof and was willing to climb all over the roof to make his point with the adjustor. Steve sat down and explained how ACNC would do the repairs and gave us the quote. Though a bit higher price than others, I felt I would get better quality workmanship based on what I had heard and the recommendations on Angieslist. I was right and so was Angieslist. A crew of 8 came out and replaced my roof in a day. One worker came back the next day for final touches. I have no complaints. A crew also came out and replaced some siding. What was to be a simple job turned into a bigger ordeal when the adjustor turned in the wrong color siding. Instead of standing around, the crew offered an option to pull good siding form below my deck and replace the damaged areas. Then install the new siding under the deck to hide it until I could deal with the insurance adjustor. Upon obtaining the right color, the crew came back to finish the siding job and replace the damaged gutters. I was very pleased the ACNC's crews and would definitely hire them again.
