Description of Work: Repaired a roof leak and performed a roof tune-up. Steve is a perfectionist. He came out and assessed what was causing discoloration on my dining room ceiling. When they came out to fix it, they did a beautiful job and were able to overcome poor workmanship of a previous repair. Then even offered to remove the old satellite dish left by the previous owner. Not only did they remove it, but they stripped the old shingles where it was mounted, put down a water barrier and laid new shingles for no extra cost. They also placed the old dish out of sight in my crawl space for me and left the site clean. I can't say enough and will call them again when needed.

Description of Work: These guys are great! I not only got new Windows but made 2 new friends that I know I can count on. They're a small local business, born and raised in the area, that really care about the customer. Champion Windows didn't show for a scheduled appointment to give me an estimate and Kingford wanted to waste my time by having me come to the showroom to get an estimate. Description of Work: Replaced the flashing around the chimney. Responded to my call within a day and came out that week to look at the roof and give me an estimate. The 1st time the sub did not do the work, but the owner thought they did, so he sent us a bill. When I contacted him, he said it was a miscommunication. The guys were at our house early the next day to do the work. The new flashing looks good and it seems to have stopped the leak.

He could have tried to sell me a new window but instead he told me I needed to go back to my original window company to get warranty for a broken seal. Description of Work: They installed new roof, gutters, gutter guards, and replaced rotten trim and siding. First I will start by saying they did a great job on the gutters and gutter guards. I would definitely recommend them for this. If I provided a separate rating for the gutters/guards, I would give them an A. However, the other jobs were not completed as well as the gutters. One of the main issues with American Craftsmen, is the lack of supervision. I had to constantly call them and get them to come over and see the issues that were on-going as the work progressed. The roofers, for example installed the flashing over siding at the roof line on the back of my house. I had to point this out to them and have them fix it. In addition, I had to point out a place where the roof had been removed and splintered some of the trim near it. Barry, the owner argued with me that it was rotted wood, when in fact, the wood simply had the paint ripped off it. I had to ask him to have the exposed wood trim painted over. Next, I asked them to complete the roof replacement before they replaced the gutters out of concern that the gutter/gutter guards would get damaged or dented. The said that that would not happen. Well, after all was said and done, they had to replace 5 sections of the gutter guard (after I once again, had to meet them out at my house to show them) because they were dented by the roofers or painters. This was after asking me if I had someone else on the roof (as if I had other contractors that caused the damage.) Then there was the trim replacement. Overall the quality once it was done was good, but I had to show them that they missed an entire section at the top of the chimney which they then had to come back and fix. When they replaced a piece of the trim on the side of the house, they painted it a totally different color, which again, I had to call them back to let them know that this was wrong. Do you get the picture? If you use them you need to be prepared to constantly call them back to fix what should have been done right in the first place. The list could go on. They left my gate unsecured twice when I specifically mentioned that I have a Houdini dog that can open the gate with his head. The dog, did in fact, get loose one evening, and the owner of the company, Barry, laughed when I reminded him that they had done this not once, but twice. It would not have been funny had my dog got out and hit by a car. |One thing I did like is that they did not expect payment until the work was completed. In this case, it was quite a while between starting the job and finishing. They actually performed two jobs. First was the roofing and gutters. The second was replacing and painting rotten trim/siding. They started the first job in Oct. 2014 and just finished replacing the damaged gutter guards on April 9th. I had to constantly call and find out when they were going to complete and continue work as well as to pick up materials/trash that had been left. The quality of the work (if you don't count the service component) was above average, but I was not looking to be the super of the project which is what I ended up being. I know the owner will become very defensive reading this review, but perhaps he grew too quickly, and I had the "B" team working on my house (except for the gutters) but I would not deem this vendor worthy on any better rating than I have given them. |

He was honest with me also went step further and inspected rest of roof and boots without being asked. Very helpful!! + 2 moreI needed to get new siding and called around for several bids. A couple of bigger companies came out and I felt like they were talking down to me because I was a single female. One owner was even trying to make me feel I had made a big mistake when I had decided not to go with his company who had a fancy showroom. He even warned me about accepting the job from someone who worked without a showroom. When Rodney came to give his estimate, he gave the impression that he was just looking to get the job and I felt like I was treated like any other person. He sent Mike and Mike to come and install the windows and then they stayed to do all the trim and siding, and finally gutters were put up. The whole event took 2 weeks and fit exactly in the time line we set up. Mike and Mike were great and did such a good job. The trim work is remarkable and the guys did amazing work. They were very nice--answered any questions I had, didn't mind if people watched them work, spoke with any neighbors who stopped by who were curious. I felt comfortable leaving them alone to work when I had to leave the house. Rodney came out every day to make sure that I was happy with the work and addressed any minor concerns I had during the process. He called before the work started and after it was completed to check in. Any minor problems that came up he quickly fixed. Even though I was very stressed at the beginning of the job (did I hire the right person, did I choose the right colors, products) once all the materials started to arrive and the work began I was very glad I picked the contractor that I did. There was never any doubt in my mind Rodney would not resolve any minor problems that came up. The final price was exactly what the estimate said (and was the best price!) and he only got paid when I was happy with the completed work.

+ -1 moreI had a great experience with this company. It is highly rated on Angie's list, but has also done work in my neighborhood and my neighbor gave an excellent rating as well. The first things I look for in hiring a company are responsiveness and punctuality. Excellent in both categories. Although the roof replacement was pretty straight forward, the difficult part of this job was to complete it without harming the landscaping that comes up close to the house. I also have a cultivated moss side yard that is very delicate. To accommodate my wishes, the workers devised a system with tarps to get the old shingles off without damaging the landscape. I detected no damage to the yard or any trash left behind which is quite remarkable - it means they didn't throw the shingles or nails out into the landscaping, and also stayed on the stone pathways when going through the property on with equipment. I must also thank the owner, Rodney Turner, for working with me to get the shingles ordered quickly before the next price increase due to the rising cost of petroleum-based products. The shingles were stored on the driveway for a bit, but it saved money. Overall a very positive experience. The company will be coming back to install gutters after the house is painted.

Not being familiar with any of the roofers in the area, we chose American Craftsmen from Angies List because of all the positive reviews. I left a message with their answering service and Rodney, the owner, promptly returned my call. It was a pleasure speaking with Rodney. He was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. After speaking via phone we arranged to meet at my house. Thankfully Rodney was punctual. We discussed the home inspectors report as it pertained to the roof. Rodney was very attentive to details. I am pleased to say that Rodney was plain spoken and made sure that I understood everything that was to be done. He submitted a proposal to me while still at my home. Though we agreed that the work would be done in about a week and a half, Rodneys team was able to get to us ahead of schedule. I was not present when the work was done but climbed up on the roof shortly after. I can honestly say that I was pleased. I just received the invoice for the work and it is exactly what Rodney estimated. I knew that the repairs to my roof would be relatively minor, so I was happy when Rodney was able to spare some time from the bigger jobs to take care of our needs. In my opinion he took this relatively small job as seriously as he would take a larger one. If we are still living here when it is time to replace the roof, I will definitely give American Craftsmen a call.

+ 1 moreOur house is almost 20 years old so this is the year we decided to do the makeover all at once, with a new roof paper & shingles, complete replacement of the curling masonite siding and new gutters with a leaf guard to include replacement of rotting wood. I wanted to deal with one company instead of arranging and spacing out 3 jobs and American Craftsmen has been thoroughly professional and pleasant to deal with. The owner handles sales and is plain spoken, does not talk technical construction jargon and took time to look at every detail that I questioned or wanted to address about the job. In addition, he kept me informed every day by phone calls or visits about any problems encountered and even brought a window salesman by to give me an opinion on an existing window matter without pushing a sales solution to generate more work. The crews were courteous, timely and respectful of our property and answered questions when I was around to observe their work. The owner wasn't satisfied with the cleanup, on the day that he came to address a couple of punch list items at the end of the job, so he stayed and directed an extra pickup around our entire house.

+ -1 morePleased with the new roof. Mr Turner, was very good about meeting me at the agreed upon times, for the initial estimate and f/u appointments, to pick the type of roof. Initial estimate was higher than the other estimates, that I had received. He knocked $ off the estimate, to be in the ball park with the others. Crew arrived on Friday, at approximately 0900 and left at 1930. Arrived back on Saturday, to finish the job. Was completed by 1200. Did a nice job cleaning up. Used a magnet, to go around the house to get the roofing nails. Original estimate was $5800, however, there was wood that needed replaced, so this added to the final cost. However, this was noted in the estimate, along with the price of the wood. A freak accident: A pry bar fell through the roof of the garage and cracked the windshield of my car. The roofing company, paid for a new windshield. He was very apologetic.
