American Craftsmen of NC

American Craftsmen gave us a fair estimate for a roof replacement. Two days later, they replaced the roof. They were on time, professional, and did a good job. A couple days after the work was completed, a representative from the company stopped by the house for a follow-up inspection of the work and to answer and questions or concerns I had.

I have used them in the past month. I just signed an agreement for an estimate. They are very high-quality and very professional. The quality of their workmanship was excellent. Their professionalism was top-notch. There were no problems with the clean-up.

Overall, the experience was very good. Rodney Turner, the owner of AC, made it clear right from the start that AC will do whatever is required to satisfy the customer. The crew was courteous and professional, worked quickly and efficiently, and did a better than average job of cleaning up the job site. Barry Turner coordinated the work dates and was very accommodating of our schedule. The price of asphalt roofing materials has gone up several time already in 2011. From the time Rodney gave us the quote until we got everything squared away with our HOA, the price jumped 11%. Not much we could do about that one. A second price increase was announced shortly before we were scheduled to start the job. To avoid getting hit with another increase, Rodney called and suggested that we order the materials and have them delivered even though our start date was still two weeks away. That would allow us to lock in the current prices. He didn't even ask for a down payment to place the order. That's great customer service! Rodney and I did have a disagreement about how the soffit vents should be installed, but we were able to resolve that to our mutual satisfaction. The new roof looks fabulous! We have some patio doors to replace in a year or two and will be calling AC for a quote.

Overall we had a excellent experience with American Craftsmen of NC. We obtained bids for our new roof from 3 contractors. Rodney Turner, owner of American Craftsmen of NC, personally came out to measure and give us an estimate of the price. American Craftsmen was certainly not the cheapest, but over a better price then other competitors. After contacting several of their previous customers, all of which had glowing reviews, we felt that this family owned company, and Rodney Turner himself, take pride in a job well done. Some minor issue came up during the reroof but we brought them to Rodney's attention during the installation and these issues were remedied quickly at no additional cost. At the end of the job the roof looked great and they did a good job on cleanup. After almost 6 months I can say that there have not been any issues with the new roof and it has held up great after some serious NC downpours. Great job American Craftsmen of NC!!

I called and requested estimate. The appointment took about a week to schedule. I received an estimate the same day of the appointment. They were able to start the job sooner than anticipated. The work was completed in 2 days and the guys did a great job - including cleaning up inside and out. I would definately recommend this company!

We had a little issue in the beginning that they weren't very responsive. I had them come out to give an estimate. Then I called back and decided that I wanted to downgrade to the next level. But, I didn't convey the information, I left a message and then I never got a return phone call from the salesman. So I called back after a few weeks and spoke with the owner and then things were very prompt and everything worked fine after that. So far, I am satisfied with the work. I will lodge one complaint on behalf of my wife. We came home while they were doing the work and they were making a mess as they went; which I expected, but apparently she expected otherwise. She complained and they cleaned it up right away. And then they did another once over after they were finished. I don't hold it against them, but obviously my wife did. Other people may have the same issue. Their price seemed reasonable to me; they did the job for what they said they would. They came out to do the job the next day after we accepted their bid; that seems pretty responsive to me. If necessary, I would use them again.

American Craftsmen did an excellent job. They came out to do the estimate and as promised they did the job on the day in which we contracted. The job was completed in a very timely manner and the yard was cleaned after completion. It was very refreshing to deal with a company who completed a job as the estimate was written. No surprises and no extra costs. The workmen were very professional. It was refreshing to have a company do a job they promised us they would do from start to finish. Thank You.

I was amazed that the entire job took less than two weeks, from the quote to the final inspection. Throughout the process, Rodney Turner and Steve Sykes kept in close touch. They were kind to my yappy Jack Russell Terrier, "Holly," and kept her from escaping (quite a feat in itself). Their crews were always on time, and their work was of the highest caliber. No payment was requested until all work was complete. They are now my "go-to" guys for windows, roofing, siding, and the like.

Rodney Turner owns the company and does a lot of the initial meet and greet and pricing himself. He is a fair, honest family man and takes the reputation of his company seriously. Over the years I have never had a problem with any of the work they have done or how they did it. Everything has held up great and I have yet to take Rodney up on any of the warranties. I've used cheaper contractors in the past and really wish I didn't. If you want it done right, call these guys. They are great.

Quickly provided a quote and performed in a very professional manner. Owner of the company followed up and met with me when work was completed.

Overall we are very pleased with American Craftsmen. They were very knowledgeable and honest. The work was efficient and clean. We are very happy with the end result and it is beautiful!!! All our neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. We will certainly call them again for future outside work on our home.

They never got back to me with a quote. They came out and showed up. They were o.k.

First let me say that this review is long overdue. The work performed and described below occurred a year ago. I waited because I thought it best to give the windows/installation work time to "weather" before commenting. Overall the entire process went well. After researching several local companies I turned to the Raleigh/Durham area and found this company online. My request for a quote was done promptly by Steve Sykes. He was very professional, provided a good background of the company, and decent information of the product offered. Even though we ran into a miscommunication about the quote after he left (Between Mr. Sikes and myself. I thought a requested addition was included in the price but later found out it was not. I was more at fault for this than Steve.), the owner promptly addressed my concern and provided a more than acceptable resolution. Removal of the old windows and installation of the new windows went well but the trim job was sub par. My guess would be that the job took longer than planned, or they were in a hurry, and cut corners to finish. One thing that sticks out even after a year is that the main installer had brought (I believe) his daughter along and had apparently planned on letting her have the run of the house. I never schedule a job and not plan on being home so I guess that idea was ruined from the start. She ended up spending a majority of the time in the work truck. While I am sure no harm was intended, I am also sure Mr. Turner had no idea this occurred and would not have approved if he did. I would like to point out that the installer was a subcontractor and not a direct employee of the company. Back to the trim: The metal trim edge was left sticking out around the window parallel with the ground posing a cutting/slicing hazard. Rodney addressed this issue promptly and had the installer came back within a week to fix the issue. The final fix is acceptable as it will at least prevent water from pooling around the outside framework but it will have to be redone before long to prevent excess bowing which will break the caulk bead around the edge. So in conclusion I would give Rodney and Steve an ?A+? for professionalism and hard work with an "A" overall for the windows. They were all double paned with UV coating and white in color. The only complaint at this time is the window sashes seem loose in the frames on the double hungs. This has not caused a leak or a weak seal but does allow the window to "twist" side to side a bit in the frame. Lastly I would give a "C" to the installer and final trim job. Hopefully they have found a more professional installer by now or at least have provided detailed guidance on company expectations.

Without question one of the best experiences I have ever had. They were puctual and worked like dogs! The team was extremely professional. It took them about 3 days to completely tear off the old roof and replace it with a new roof. They did have to replace some wood in certain areas of my roof which had rotted. The roof and gutterguards look fantastic (see attached photos). They did an amazing job cleaning up after themselves. I was extremely pleased with what was done and my friend Matt (who is a Master Carpenter and who has built many buildings around Raleigh) said they did an excellent job. Matt was watching them throughout the process and was quite impressed with their level of quality workmanship.

Rodney Turner did not return my very first call, but once we made contact, he was always very responsive, including quick turnaround time on emailed questions. He explains all options thoroughly. His price was $3000 below our highest 2 estimates and 10% below next-best price estimate. Weather was an issue in the timing of our work, but they were very good about staying in touch and projecting the day(s) of work. The crew works very rapidly and professionally and did a good job in cleaning up. Our only complaint is that the amount of shingles were underestimated so the work took an additional day, waiting for shingles. In spite of this, we'd highly recommend this company.

It went very good. I was pleased with the quality of work and the representation. So far I have very high ratings for them. There was one little problem and he had the manufacturer's representative come back and took care of it the same day. It was just minor install problems that we had to take care of. He was very competitive.

Their prices and work is reasonable. I expect people to do high quality job and not just do adequate job. Their work is acceptable, but I think you need to say specific things to them and not assume them to do a good job. If they find something else that is wrong, they will not tell you or do anything about it. They did a good job and cleaned up after themselves. They were punctual. The guy Rodney Turner always got back to me if I asked him a question. He was very accessible. He was easy to talk to.

Rodney was a pleasure to deal with. He came out to our house to measure and give us an estimate a few days after we called. He was very patient and detailed and explained every step of the process and exactly what we would be getting. He also gave us several options and explained what we would be getting for the difference in price. He was very good at answering our questions. His office kept in touch to tell us when the crew would be coming out and they came exactly when they said they would. His crew was efficient and courteous. They also did an amazing job at cleaning up. Rodney then came out and expected the work to make sure everything was completed according to what we agreed to. We would definitely hire him again for any work we needed in the future.

The job went well. Rodney took care of us as he has in the past. We joined Angie's List long ago because of the rotten experiences we have had with contractors over the last few years. We knew of Rodney and used his services before we became members of Angie's List. If someone is looking for a contractor who will stand behind their work and keep their customer's satisfaction as a priority, one would not find a better contractor than American Craftsmen of NC. We highly recommend this company to anyone looking for home improvement options.

American Craftsmen of NC replaced all seven windows in my 1985 townhouse. Rodney Turner (the owner) personally came to my home to provide an estimate and demonstrate the product. He was very knowledgeable about the product and gave me a very fair deal. Rodney stayed in touch with me throughout the process to keep me updated on what was going on. The day of the work, the crew arrived on time and got right to work. They were courteous and professional. The quality of the work is top-notch. I left home for a few hours while the work was being done, and the crew even called on my cell to let me know that they were finished and everything had gone well. Rodney stopped by the very next day to check the work and make sure I was satisfied. I love the new windows! They function great and look great too. After having some less than desireable home improvement experiences, it is wonderful to meet a business owner who is honest and truly cares about his customers. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who is looking to have window, roof, or gutter work done.

We got three estimates. Kelly Windows was twice as high, but after much research, the extra quality in the windows didn't seem worth the extra money. American Craftsman is family owned and the price fit with the other estimate. The crew that came out to replace the windows was excellent, easy to work with and very professional. The left my home mostly cleaned up. the owner came out a few days later to check on the work. He found a few bits of chipped paint and replaced those parts immediately.

It was a good experience. I contacted three roofers through Angie's list; all seemed competent and trustworthy. One was considerably more expensive than this firm, and one was considerably less expensive. They are certainly not the cheapest firm out there, but I am happy that I chose to pay the extra money. From beginning to end the owner, Rodney, was in on the process, and made absolutely clear from the beginning what they would do and why. We have just had our first serious rain and I'm waiting to see any tell-tale wet spots, but I feel confident that if anything like that appears, the firm will take care of us. I should also say that they got us an excellent warranty from the manufacturer of the shingles, which, on top of their own five year warranty on workmanship, is pretty reassuring. We also got exactly the roof we wanted, and should be entitled to a tax rebate.

The job was very professionally done and everything was cleaned up after they finished. Price was exactly as estimated.

The job went very well. Rodney was very prompt in ordering the windows, and when the huge picture window arrived with the wrong style of grid, he immediately returned it and ordered its replacement, which came very promptly. Once the windows had all arrived, the installation followed quickly. The installers were very experienced and efficient in tearing out the old windows and installing the new ones. All of the windows appear to be well sealed, and the installers left no debris outside the house. However, some debris was left inside the house, and they left without cleaning off some smudges left on several of the windows. They also failed to notice that a couple pieces of minor interior trim were cracked. When I brought this to Rodney's attention he personally replaced the trim pieces. The result is a full set of very attractive and energy-efficient windows, and I am fully satisfied.

He was very unprofessional. Within 10-15 minutes of arriving at my house, he excused himself to go outside to smoke a cigarette because he, "has a bad habit [he] can't kick." He was very pushy after he developed a quote and kept saying he wanted the job so he kept reducing the price. His final price was over $2000 more than the other quotes I have gotten. After I told him I wasn't going to sign anything because I had to think about it, he still wanted me to sign a contract because, "[I] can call and cancel withing three days!" I tried not to be rude, but finally said no thinks I am not going to sign anything without thinking. He kept being pushy and lowering the price. Fianlly, he asked how much money I wanted to spend! That is none of his business. Not to mention he only takes checks or cash and would stand behind his quote for only one day. I would not have this company do any work for me.
