He was excellent. He was on time and very professional. He did a very good job. They confirmed the call and also called before he came to my home. He also gave me a discount for the visit which I thought was nice.
Description of Work: My disposal broke and they came and fixed it. I also asked him if he could put draino down the drain and unclog it.

It cost a little bit more than the big deal because our house is old so there were a lot of unique situations to it. We used the $99 for the cost of the work that was done. The gentleman that came out was prompt and punctual. He sounded like he knew what he was doing, and he did a good job. However, their call line is a little bit difficult to get in touch with to set up an appointment. He was a nice guy, and their price was comparable. There was a time that I called them and asked them a question, and they put me on hold. It felt like they had put me on hold for so long that they wanted me to hang up because I was on hold for nearly eighteen minutes.

The plumber came out quickly. Very satisfied with that, and a very nice man as well. The problem I had was with the price. There is a break in the wire that goes from the well head to the pump. I was asking to just have it repaired. The quote for pulling the pump up and patching the wire was $550. Wow is all I could think. I had fixed this with my brother once before, maybe 18 months ago. Well, he fixed it and I watched. I just didn't have the time to repair and he was not available to help this time. It took him about an hour last time and a waterProof/shrinkwrap piece that he wrapped over the wire. Anyway, just seemed like a huge overhead for such a small task. Cost me $39 to discover i can't afford to have this company ever do any work for me.
Description of Work: Price WAY to high. I did want to add that the owner did follow up with me right after and was concerned about their pricing being aligned with the market. Kudos. He also offered to refund the $39 for the person coming out. I didn't feel it was right for me to take that money back but again, kudos for the offer. Maybe i will reconsider that statement about never calling them again. With that kind of customer service, i think worth a second chance.

I went through items showing where there were issues and to look at them to see which were expensive repairs and which were smaller ones that would fit within what I prepaid. Before I knew it he had done all the repairs with an estimate beforehand and gave an expensive number for the repairs and wasn't helpful when I complained. I called the main office and they were helpful in refunding some of the money saying he was supposed to provide estimates first. So mixed bag - wish it would have been done right at first but the manager did remedy things.

The fellow that made the repairs was honorable, tidy, worked hard. Half way through the fix, he slowed down and became confused. He had not had time to eat lunch because of the schedule and consequently, he had begun to go into a diabetic reaction. We eventually recognized...fortunately, that all was not well with him. In his state of almost total confusion, he was not able to make a good decision about the need for emergency action. The company sent out a driver to help him get back to the office while in the meantime, we gave him sugar and then some food to stop the downhill spiral in his health. He was very apologetic but we did not think he needed to be. He had completed the job and had done a good job. He had made an error in his judgement of his ability to sustain his health thru the end of this job before eating but we understand that the condition of diabetes will cause a person to make a poor judgement based on the confusion confusion caused by insulin rx. The employee who completed the job was an excellent worker. He was above board. He cared about his work. He presented himself and his effort totally well. We felt like the company didn't follow up very well on the whole incident. A phone call to us to see if the job was completed, etc. would have made us feel like they cared about their product. Also, we thought they took a rather cavalier attitude about the health and safety of the employee while we were helping him to deal with his very potentially deadly illness at our house. We were scared. They weren't, or at least, didn't respond as if they were, and should have been. It took them a long time to get their vehicle out to pick the employee up and they made no calls to us during that time to check up on how things were going for him while we all waited. On the other hand, we felt that the employee reflected strongly positive character. The employee had warned us that, when you have work done that is not estimated previously, the bill comes out higher than you would expect, and we accepted that because we needed the work done. Still, when the bill came, we were surprised at just how high it was, especially since it was also discounted for the "Big Deal". Since we did not get any estimates beforehand, we take responsibility for that surprise. He warned us.
Description of Work: The request was to fix a leaky sink pipe, to hook up the refrigerator ice-maker to the water source, and to fix a leaky bathroom faucet. All was completed. I do not remember the date of this work and it is very much an estimate.

I have a 1930's built home with many, many unique issues. The kitchen sink drain was the old iron pipe style, running through the wall. This visit was to create a new kitchen drain pipe (through the floor) with PVC as a replacement. The technician was available for an emergency call within an hour of my initial call. Timing was critical as I had another crew onsite to replace my 16yr old HVAC... and the leak was right on top of the HVAC return lines. The technician was professional, quick, and cleaned up well after the job. I definitely recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing!!

The service guy was friendly, but seemed to want to perform services way beyond what was necessary.
Description of Work: I had bought one of the Angie's list deals and the service guy tried to charge me a couple thousand for something I was able to fix myself (minimal plumbing skills). He also tried to charge me $379 to install a new flush valve on the toilet. I sent him away without having any work completed.

The plumber was very courteous and informative. He looked at my shower, which was leaking from the control valve (rather than out of the faucet) and let me know the options, which were for him to attempt to rebuild the faucet. He explained that it may not be possible to rebuild the faucet control, which could result in needing to replace the whole control for $600 (the process would involve needing to put a hole in my bedroom wall). He looked all over the faucet, including looking at an identical one in another bathroom, to figure out the brand. Unable to figure out the brand, I agreed for him to attempt to disassemble the faucet, but to please attempt to avoid the $600 option. When he was unable to move the bolt holding everything in, he stopped, saying it was too risky. I asked if he could, at the very least, find a replacement plastic piece for turning the water on and off. He took pictures of everything and said that he would call me (or have somebody call me) from the office with options. I never heard from him or the office again. I called once, to push the issue, but they said they would have to check with the plumber that was sent out and get back to me - again, I never got a response. I was looking at the pieces later, and on the front of the broken plastic piece was the brand name, rather clearly marked. The other service I was hoping to have done was to fix a leaky kitchen faucet. The prices that were quoted were too high, so I decided to do it myself.
Description of Work: I had hoped to have a leaky valve in my shower fixed, as I have to turn it on and off with a screwdriver. I was also interested in a quote to fix a leaky kitchen faucet.

I called today to get a quote for 4 different jobs I needed done in a rental property I am remodeling. These were standard things like installing a dishwasher, sink and garbage disposal. One item was more involved which was installing a bathtub. The girl on the phone was pleasant enough, but all she wanted was the exact street location of the house while I wanted estimates. Long story short, they refused to give me any estimates by phone. They want to come out to your house and give you a quote AND charge you for that quote. I can understand them wanting to come out and take a look at what is involved in replacing the tub, but the other jobs are everyday items. They were the ONLY plumber I called that refused to give me some earthly idea of what it would cost. Others even advertised their rates and gave me an idea of how long the installation might take. For me, red flags go up when someone says they don't give out numbers unless they are paid to do it at your home. That's just me. They seem to have a good rating, but I never hire anyone who won't provide some kind of information. These are very standard jobs, even an hourly rate would have helped. The have to know on average, how much these jobs are. No, I won't be using them

By the way, the other plumber (unfortunately I can't remember his name) from Oxford told me he didn't know the problem, charged me over $110, and suggested I call someone from pest control if the smell continued to be a problem. He was no help at all. I only wish I had called Justin Nugent 2 years ago. I must admit though, that Carolane Propane Gas did send a repairman quickly to our house to solve the problem. Too bad they did not check the pipes yearly though.....I've had this service over 20 years. Shame on them actually......in 20 years corrosion happens!! I'm just glad my house didn't blow up in the meantime.
Description of Work: Justin Nugent did not take long to give me the solution to the problem. After looking in the crawl space under my house, he said it was a gas leak. He was exactly correct. I called my vendor (Carolane Propane Gas) and he fixed the very corroded pipeline. Justin Nugent single handedly found the problem which had been puzzling and upsetting my family for over two years.

The first trip requests was to check toilets and repair faucet in rear of house. Well, he talked so much about his recent hernia operation that he forgot to check the toilet upstairs. So, when the new homeowners moved in, the toilet upstairs (which he didn't check) stopped working (it was the flap). So, I called them back to check the upstairs toilet and the flap isn't working ($5.00) part. The second trip for a flap cost $129.00 (that's after $177 for the first trip). The prices are ridiculous; therefore, I will never use them again unless I have money to throw away.

It went very well and I've had no plumbing problems since the work was completed. During the process of this kitchen and bath remodeling project, I realized it was a bigger project than I thought, and I wished I'd had a contractor, but it all worked out well in the end, in no small part due to Gary's easy-going manner. It's so hard to judge if the price was reasonable -- plumbing costs always seems high! But Gary did a lot of work, was prompt, and had a very calming, knowledgeable and reassuring presence. I can't remember how many times he came, but it was at least twice.
Description of Work: Gary from Ben Franklin Plumbers coordinated with the cabinet installer during this project. Gary replaced and re-plumb the kitchen sink, installed a disposal, and re-installed the dishwasher. He also installed and re-plumbed the bathroom sink and faucet and replaced an unsatisfactory tub faucet and shower (poorly designed product that had been poorly installed by a handyman).

They are pretty highly priced, and they were some hidden charges that weren’t covered before it. They were also not more expensive than what they seemed to be. They were good. They charged us $132, but it would have been $100 if they hadn’t added some other charges to them. The quality of their work was good. They were responsive; they got here in a couple of days, and he showed up on time and they got the worked done real fast. I would definitely negotiate the price if I use them again in the future.

I’ve had several different plumbers out to my home, which is only 6 years old, and had bad results. These plumbers just added to the problem. Ben Franklin Plumbing came out, discussed options with me, and figured out a solution. They actually took pictures under the home to show me what they were going to do. I’ve had great results. The plumbers were courteous, always on time, and communicate very well. I can finally use my ice maker! If you need a good plumber, Ben Franklin is the one to call.

On a Saturday morning, I found that a pipe had separated from the main water supply near our well holding tank. I called our usual plumber and they came promptly, but the problem turned out to be with the presurre sensor for the well pump, and our plumber did not work on well pump systems. No fault to them because I only described the problem as a pipe leak. I checked Angies List for a highly rated plumber that did work on well pump systems and offered 24 hour emergency service. I called Benjamin Franklin plumbing and they said they could come out that day, but could not offer a time. After waiting several hours, I called again and was assured they would be out "that day" but again no time was offered. By 11:00 that night, I was pretty sure they were not coming. I called another plumber in the morning and they came at the time they sated in the call. I never heard from Benjamin Franklin the day of the call, the day after, or any day since. Know that the leak required that I shut down the well pump, and the leak sprayed into the phone box, shorting out our land line phone, so we had no water and no phone for two days. (I did have a cell phone, so they could have called.) A first class service company does not say they're coming when they're not, and they don't leave customers hanging. Their regular service may be great, but definitely an "F" grade for emergency service!

The only thing that I didn’t like is that I had them out basically to give an evaluation and give a price. They didn’t go a head and do that. They basically did a destructive investigation and by the time they felt what was wrong with the tank, they had replaced it immediately whereas I didn’t have to replace it immediately. I came up basically to get a price and I ended up in a situation when I went to check they had already cut some pipes and I had no choice other than replacing it. The guy who was here told me that I wanted a new tank anyways. I didn’t have someone else who had come and given me quote which was higher but I could have postponed it for a week or month. Their service was good and the quality of work was good. The price was either good or okay but not bad. They cleaned up well and everything else was okay except for that one thing. I was not unhappy with the outcome but I was unhappy with the way they did it.

Larry was very polite and also had a great sense of humor. I was reallly suprised to hear he could not get the clog out and whatever was in there required the stool to be removed. we happend to have a replacement in the garage and after taking the old one out he gave me some pointers on what to do with the toilet installation it if I replaced the flooring in the bathroom. It turned out a toilet paper holder was caught in the trap. I would not have beleived it had I not seen it with my own eyes. Great job Larry.
