It went badly. David is/was a friend of my father who was recommended fondly. He came over to give me an idea of what was needed and what it should cost me, as a courtesy. He seemed to know what he was talking about, and I was having trouble finding a contractor to do the work, so I decided to just hire him to do it. Most of the demolition I had done myself, so when they came the next day to begin work, they had little demo left to do and could quickly start reconstruction. Right away I could see he/they (he had a helper) did things differently than I'd been taught, but they seemed sound so I let it go. As the work progressed from framing to boarding to finishing the work also progressed from different to sloppy. They left at 3 each day, stretching the task over three weeks, at which point they said they'd return on Monday to work the "punch list" -- my list of whatever needs further attention. He asked for payment, again against my better judgement I paid this friend of a friend, thinking "he's a friend of my dad, I'm sure he's good for it". They never did return. As my punch list grew longer, I grew less patient. Weeks went by and David wouldn't answer the phone, or return a call. The punch list includes: * replace broken threshold. They broke the new threshold, I had to buy and install a new one * reset towel bar and soap dish. They installed these with caulk instead of proper adhesive, I had to re set them * reset sink. They installed the vanity wrong, I had to buy a wrench and re-assemble it * reset toilet. They left me with a toilet that didn't work, I had to disassemble and reassemble it * spackle repaired wall seams. They did one rough coat of spackle (drywall mud) I had to do the second and sand * recaulk tub. The caulking on the edges of the tub is coming loose, I will have to remove the corner tiles and reset them. * grout in floor is cracked. I still don't know what I'm going to do about this * grout in walls missing spots. I'll have to buy some grout and fill them in * caulk in at floor is missing spots. I'll have to caulk that too. * shower head leaked into wall. This was all about water damage, and he left me with a leaky pipe. I had to re set it. * debris removal. He left a barrelful of rotten wood, sawdust, and insulation under my house, he called it "termite fodder" but didn't remove it. I had to. I've spent $400 and several weekends doing what they could have finished in a day with the right tools and experience. I may have to pursue legal action.
Description of Work: Repair/remodel a bathroom which suffered water damage. Tasks included replacing floor joists, floor boards, wall boards and tile. Work agreed upon and paid for was started but not complete, David is debtbeating -- ripping me off.

Description of Work: REMOVE OLD ROOF. INSTALL NEW ROOF. REMOVE ONE 35FT. GUTTER AND REPLACE. DID ROOF WITHOUT A PROBLEM. DID A POOR JOB CLEANING UP WORK AREA OF SHINGLES AND NAILS. WHEN REQUESTED TO USE A MAGNET TO CLEAN UP NAILS SAID THEY DID SO. HOWEVER, PICKED UP > 100 NAILS AFTER THEY SAID THEY DID THE MAGNET. TOOK DOWN OLD GUTTER AND TOLD ME FACIA BOARD WAS ROTTEN. I REQUESTED THAT THEY FIX FACIA BOARD. DAVE SAID HE WOULD. THEY HAVE YET TO DO IT (I EVEN TOLD THEM THAT I REPLACED THE FACIA BOARD AND THAT ALL I NEED IS THE GUTTER REPLACED) AFTER SEVERAL CALLS. NO CALLS HAVE BEEN RETURNED IN LAST WEEK. PREVIOUSLY, SAID THAT THEY HAVE BEEN BUSY WITH ALL OF THE STORMS - BUT TOO BUSY TO TAKE CARE OF ONE GUTTER? IT HAS BEEN THREE WEEKS SINCE THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE GUTTER (4/29 - FINISHED THE ROOF - ''WILL DO GUTTER IN NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS'')

STILL LEAKS DURING HEAVY RAIN. CHIMNEY MAN TARRED A HOLE IN THE FLASHING.
Description of Work: RAIN WAS COMING INTO THE FIREPLACE. DAVID SAID HE REPAIRED THE FLASHING BUT RAIN CONTINUED TO APPEAR IN THE FIREPLACE. HE RETURNED AND REPLACED THE ROOF ON THAT SIDE AND DID MORE REPAIR ON THE FLASHING, BUT WE STILL HAD RAIN COME INTO THE FIREPLACE. HE PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A CHIMNEY CAP/CAGE 6/20/03 CHARGING $35. CHIMNEY CAP IS NOT QUALITY AND IS HELD IN PLACE BY ONLY TWO OF SIX PRONGS RATHER THAN BOLTS. PAINTED FLASHING WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT APPEARANCE.
