After giving the estimate they were able to start work in just a couple of days. Tom showed up each morning at the promised time and kept me apprised on the progress. The sink was ordered but it arrived after the work was finished and Karl came back to install it with no wait time.
Description of Work: Added insulation, some drywall and plywood countertops to an unfinished garage. They also painted the entire garage, installed a utility tub and power washed the floor.

I contacted Karl and he responded that day and came out the next day. I had already purchased all new fixtures and Karl made other helpful suggestions including replacing the old marble countertop with granite. He had the estimate to me in about a week and was able to start work within a few days. He came with me to help pick out the small piece I needed for the countertop and then to pick out floor tile. He kept me informed and things went smoothly. This was a small job so Karl was a one man show so he usually spent a half day working on my house and then went on to do other needed work so it did take longer than expected to finish. But I was in no hurry and everything was done to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Remodeled small bathroom including new sink and countertop, paint, installed new fixtures, tile flooring and crown molding.

He gave us an approximate time he would be able to do our patio. The time was approaching and no call. My husband called and emailed a couple of times before we got a response that it would be pushed back like 3 weeks. That was right by my daughters graduation of which the party was held at my house on the patio. Then that time was approaching and no call to set a date. We finally postponed it because we signed a paper saying that we could not cancel. If I can help it I will not use their services. My patio is not complete.

Here is the email I sent to this customer: I just read a review that your wife gave on Angies list that was not fair at all considering we spoke about how our schedule was at the time I looked at your job. When you signed the contract on 4-14-14 you knew we were out 6-8 weeks or more because I was honest with you at the time of the estimate. That actually puts us to 6-7-14 which is within the time frame I gave you. We were ready in May to complete your project. You called me in May about postponing the project. Just because our schedule which you knew about did not conform to your schedule I feel is very unjust to publicly give false statements that are totally not true. You knew to call me in an estimated amount of weeks so I could keep you informed of our schedule and how it was progressing. We try our best on accommodating our customers but are very honest and upfront about our process and they way we go about our weekly scheduling. I did not force you to wait or sign the quote sheet. As a matter of fact I am assuming that you are still looking to complete the project per our phone conversation. I also have your text & voicemail messages still on my phone that can validate that you were not dissatisfied by waiting and that you understood the situation which was conveyed to you from the very beginning about our schedule. Your family emergency?? Is why we did not complete your project, not our ignoring you which is how you made it sound. I could have pursued enforcing (or still can) our policy on our quote sheet that if a customer cancels the contract after three days there is a penalty percentage that we could collect. Per your last phone message (which I still have on my phone) you still have every intention to complete the project but needed to wait until this event past that was in front of you. I understand that you were wanting to have this project completed by a certain time. I also know that your 2-3 year old homes new porch is not in poor condition that our not being able to meet your anticipated schedule date was not detrimental to your party.

Karl. Kudos guys! Another job well-done!
Description of Work: Converted a weathered & dated screened porch into a fully functional, climate-controlled all-season room. The HOA in our community has strict requirements in terms of matching exterior surfaces. Our home is 15 years old and is brick and hard stucco. The challenge of matching these materials was a concern; however, A Fresh Look made it look easy and now our new all-season room is an oasis for us each and every day. We watch the sunrise in a wonderfully warm room (new mini heat pump installed specifically for the room)...and it's the middle of winter! We can't say enough about the professionalism of A Fresh Look's owners, Tom &

Karl came on short notice to look at our Laundry Room that we would like to have finished. We had two other people come to our house for quotes also. We decided to go with A Fresh Look based on how Karl thoroughly described how he would go about doing the job. He considered things that the other two contractors didn't even address. Also Karl was very professional and got back to us with a quote within the week. After we received the quote we were able to schedule another visit with Karl so that he could answer all of my husband's follow up questions before signing the contract. The company is busy with work so we do have to wait, but we think it will be worth the wait.
Description of Work: Measured our room, listened to what we wanted for the space, and thoroughly described how he would go about doing things and what our options were.

Tom Wilson was very responsive when I called him to come out for an estimate. He came over, took measurements, and gave me an estimate within a day or two. Tom and his company are very knowledgeable in many areas of home improvement and home repair. They were punctual, finished the project in a timely manner and were very professional. Tom and his crew are also very conscientious about cleaning up after themselves. They also stained and painted a garage floor and shop floor for me last fall. I would not hesitate to use "A Fresh Look" again for projects at my house.
Description of Work: Tom Wilson from "A Fresh Look" installed drywall in an unfinished basement for me. He also taped, mudd and sand finished the drywall. Tom provided all the material and labor for the project. The walls look great.

This is the third time I've used A Fresh Look. They are always easy to work with and do great work. Karl has come up with great ideas on this job and on past jobs that have saved me money in the long run. Occasionally they have charged me for extras once the job got started that I thought should have been included in the original quote. Just be very specific from the outset as to what you want done and consider all the details.
Description of Work: They widened a reach in closet, painted two bathrooms, a hallway and three other rooms. They hung drywall on the popcorn ceilings in two bathrooms and a bedroom and painted them. They installed a fireplace door which required some welding.

I think they did a pretty good job. They were nice people and very pleasant to work with. My husband and I are both quite knowledgeable so when it comes to home improvements we have high standards. I feel no contractor would do things exactly as the homeowner would, but these guys were pretty close. I would give them a B for doing what they were supposed to do. We have no problems at all and are pleased with the work. I think an A would be for something extraordinary or above and beyond.

We were very happy with Tom and Carl. They were completely reliable and had the best work ethic of any contractors we've hired. Even when it snowed they were here before 8AM. Communication was thorough throughout the project. They always left a clean workspace every night. They kept good tabs on the subcontractors and made sure they showed up and did a good job. Twice, they ate some cost: once when a plumber had to come out a second time, and the delivery charge when they had to order a second shower door because the first one didn't fit. The quality of the work is great and it's hard to believe that they got all that done in about 6 weeks. They were flexible about our desire to cut costs by doing some work ourselves and getting some used materials. Only surprise: there were some small additions to the job that we thought up (like bookshelves), and they did the work without telling us how much they would be, and, though the costs were reasonable, we would have liked to know beforehand.
Description of Work: Tom and Carl finished our 1400 square foot basement. It was partially framed and they finished the framing, put up the drywall, installed doors and put in a bathroom. They installed some lights and subcontracted out other electrical, plumbing, and heating work. They built built-in bookshelves on a wall. They put wire shelves into two closets. They installed some flashing on a porch above the basement level to try to alleviate water leakage. They installed baseboards and trim around the windows.

The buyers gave us their inspection repair request. Since this was near Christmas and we only had a few weeks to get the work done, I had a hard time getting contractors to come out. However, Karl was able to come the same day for an estimate. He and his associate spent an hour going through the list, describing what had to be done and which of the buyers' requests were unreasonable. He provided a written estimate the next day. One of the repair requests related to broken thermal seals on the patio doors. Karl explained that the entire doors needed to be replaced. Two other contractors told me that just the glass could be replaced. Karl and associate were friendly, helpful, and seemed very knowledgeable. However, his estimate which did not included all materials, was much higher than the other 2 we received. The contractor we chose will cost over $2,000 less than what A Fresh Look would have cost. I would consider using A Fresh Look in the future if the cost was lower.
Description of Work: Karl provided an estimate of the cost to complete the buyers' inspection repair list on our house that is under contract. This included roof shingle replacements, replacing boot flashing, replacing downspouts, replacing elbows, repairing wood rot at numerous locations, siding replacement, fixing toilet leak, un-sticking windows, addressing broken thermal seals in patio door, fixing leak at water heater supply valve, fixing a loose outlet and adding GFCI, and caulking in the bathrooms. His estimate did not include the cost of some of the materials, such as the roof shingles, boot flashing, siding boards, decorative trim, and patio doors.

Karl was a pleasure to work with and the work was done well. However there was some indecision on whether or not the room required permits (it did) and that delayed other contractors being able to obtain permits. They also, missed the fact that the floor needed insulation as it was above the garage and the insulation requirement for the ceiling (R-30). Tom and Karl are somewhat new to the area and are still gathering a reliable group of subcontractors. This job needed electrical, HVAC and plumbing as well as the building permit and I found those myself (some from Angie's List). The work they do is good, but it is on the high side of pricing. They also didn't carry away the construction debris, which I had to do.

Job1.Good job. The attic room was small and oddly shaped. Tom and Karl analysed the area, suggested possible designs, and created a beautiful, usable space. They consulted with me on every decision, and recommended materials or designs as necessary. I love my new room!. Job2. These guys are wonderful!!! We asked them to totally redo a newly-bought condo in three weeks, to be done before moving in. Their estimate was great (very professional and detailed), and their understanding of what we wanted was exemplary. They jumped on the job, and worked 12-14 hours a day, five days a week, to finish by our deadline. They were done the day we moved in. And it's beautiful! The work is done so well, it fits smoothly into the original design; you can't tell where the changes were made. Karl and Tom suggested some design changes, and they were dead on. We loved them so much, we're calling them back to do another room and built-in cabinets! Can't say enough good about them.
Description of Work: Job1.Finished an attic room($5000). Job2.Remodeled 2400 sq. ft. condo, including tiling bathroom, sanding floors, rebuilding kitchen, painting rooms, building and designing balcony, rebuilding the interior of a closet (converted to sewing area), changing all bathroom and lighting fixtures($40000).
