This is an email I sent to the owner of Foothills Woodcrafters which explains why I am dissatisfied with his work. I don't mean to drag it all up again, but I feel like I need to so that this doesn't sound like a gripe about any small thing (I really don't think I'm a person who is hard to please). My disappointments started when the cabinets were being installed and the handles were put on crooked. You came back and fixed those, but we soon noticed that the finish strip by the refrigerator and the piece under the island were not stained (didn't match the colors of the other cabinets). You did try to fix that issue too, but the colors never matched and still don't. Next, we found that some of the trim between the refrigerator and cabinets had a large unsightly gap. You came and looked, and all it needed was to be screwed in deeper. Never did I receive an apology from you about any of the problems. . At this point I was becoming concerned that all of these things could be quality issues, or even just a lack of concern on the part of the install team. In my head, I was trying to tell myself that things would work out, but I had just paid thousands of dollars that I saved over a long time for cabinets with crooked handles and poor finish work. Then the worst problems showed up, and the veneers started checking. Now, I did not know that the finish on the cabinets would yellow like it did, but this didn't bother me as much as when the finish started to crack. First we noticed white cracks showing up in the middle of a panel, then we saw these checks showing up all over other panels I really started to panic. When we called you, you came and tried to fix the problem... and even got a finishing contractor to come look at them. The finish contractor said that it wasn't an issue with water or anything, but a problem with the veneers checking and cracking the finish from the inside. When the cabinet fronts were finally taken in to be refinished, I felt like I had been through a bunch with these cabinets, but they'd finally come back the right way. I was heartbroken when the cabinet fronts were reinstalled and there were patches of noticeably different colors where the old finish had been completely removed in spots, but not in others. I even sent pictures about the discoloration, but never got a reply after I sent the pictures. I figured that maybe the colors would fade together over time, but it hasn't happened. You did come out with a supplier for your finishers who said it was not water damage on the cabinets and that the veneers were checking. The year before another person who took the fronts and tried to fix them said the same thing. When I talked to the supplier, he told me that he asked Tom why he was brought out because it was apparent he did not say what Tom wanted him to say. Later on the owner brought back the person that would try to fix them for a second time, and he said he thought he could try and fix them. His idea of fixing the white lines on the cabinets were to take a majic marker and go over them. The owner said the men who said the veneers were checking didn't know what they were talking about. The owner kept telling me I had water damage which is impossible on cabinents that are 4 feet away from the sink. I asked that I get a refund of $2000 which was the price I got from a cabinet maker who did some work for me after the kitchen and who I trust. Tom, the owner wrote back that he didn't feel they could please me. I could have let them take the fronts of the cabinets again, but I did not have any faith that the outcome would be any different than the first time. My hope is that by becoming a member of Angie's List someone will not make the same mistake I did.
Description of Work: Foothills Woodcrafters was hired by me to build and install custom kitchen cabinets. I was thrilled with being finally able to afford to replace 30 year old cabinets of poor quality supplies. My son-in-law, husband, and I took out the old cabinets, and Woodcrafters installed the new cabinets.
