It went well. They arrived on time and finished quickly. There wasn't any clean-up and as far as I know the quality was good. I would use them again.
Description of Work: They insulated an attic space.

The foam was sprayed in on July 2, 2013. This was the start of significant issues with the foam and the work. Below is timeline of events so you can see how much time, energy and additional money I had to invest to try to get the spray foam issues fixed. ? July 2, 2013 ? 31-W Concord Sales Rep, Heather, there with spray crew at the start of the work. She goes through the paperwork and shows me a piece of foam from the work being done. She described it as closed cell foam. I found out later that it was actually open cell foam she was showing me but she didn?t know it. ? July 3, 2013 - Issues noted by me, foam separating from roof deck, 2x6s and walls in several places. Pictures taken to at that time to support my claims. Called Heather to get the foam issues fixed. ? July 7, 2013 ? 31W returns to fix issues. Crew cut out bad sections of the insulation and resprayed. I had to point out the areas that had issues to the installation team. Nobody on the crew spoke English, yet I was left to tell them what else needed to be fixed. Yellow foam used to fill small gaps. I was not told this was open cell spray foam until Daniel Mendoza told me on a follow on repair visit. ? July 9, 2013 ? Issues noted by me again, foam separating from roof deck, 2x6s and walls in several places. Pictures taken to at that time to support my claims. 31W spray foam crew returns again to fix bad sections of foam and resprays. ? July 12, 2013 ? HVAC tech installed heat/AC unit on wall. I assumed the foam was going to be okay and that I could move forward with completing the room. In good faith, I paid the bill for the spray foam thinking the issues had been resolved. ? July 14, 2013 ? I walked through the bonus room again and noticed several sections of the foam pulling away from the wood. ? July ?, 2013 ? Not sure of exact date but Daniel Mendoza, 31-W Concord NC Sales Manager, and Demilec spray foam manufacturer representative inspect the insulation. The rep explained that there were two main issues with the installation that caused the problems. They were: too high of a humidity level and spraying the foam too thick in one pass. (Pictures and pieces of foam retained for support). The rep also noted that there were several sections of the roof deck that were sprayed with open cell foam and then covered with closed cell foam. If it were not for the rep, I would not have known open cell foam was sprayed in first. Daniel stated he did not know his spray team used open cell foam before the closed cell. (I retained pictures and piece of foam as support for my claims.) ? July 22, 2013 ? I had the HVAC tech remove the wall mounted heat/AC unit to allow 31-W remove the foam behind it. ? July 23 and July 24, 2013 ? Removal of all bad foam. Daniel Mendoza was on-site with crew to remove bad foam. About 40% of the spray foam was removed was a result of poor application of the foam. Electrical wires in the walls were cut during foam removal. I explained to Daniel that I would have my electrician come out to rerun the cut wires. ? July 26, 2013 ? I sent an email to Daniel explaining my issues, concerns and expectations that I would be looking for compensation for all the problems I had with the spray foam. ? July 29, 2013 ? No word from Daniel on when spray foam would be reinstalled. Reached out to Concord location sales rep (Heather) to try and get some action. Also obtained the number for Harvey Finley, Regional Sales Manager for 31-W, and called him to see if he could get things moving. ? July 30, 2013 ? I looked over the remaining foam that had not been removed and noticed more foam sections that had separated from the roof deck and walls. I contacted Daniel to have the additional foam removed before the electrician repaired the cut lines. ? August 1, 2013 ? Daniel removed additional foam that had separated from the walls and roof deck. ? August 3, 2013 ? Electrician repaired locations where wires in walls were cut when bad foam was removed by 31-W. Cost $399 to repair three cut electrical lines. No word from Daniel on when the foam would be resprayed. ? August 9, 2013 ? Daniel was there with crew from Orlando to respray all the foam that was removed. Daniel left and I arrived in time to walk through the room and point out areas that needed more foam or where the foam had to be shaved down so it would not interfere with the sheetrock. ? I waited a week before scheduling any additional work on the room as I wanted to make sure the foam was staying in place and not separating from the wood on the walls and ceilings. There were a few spots I noticed but did not want to deal with 31-W any longer so I used six cans of foam from Lowes to fill the separations between the foam and the wood in the walls and ceilings. ? After the final spraying of foam was installed , I explained to Daniel and Harvey that I wanted to be compensated for the money I spent on HVAC and electrical work ($749) and that I wanted to be compensated for my lost work time and delays in completing the bonus room, as well as the frustration caused by the issues with the foam. Daniel and Harvey seemed to understand and in addition to the payment of the $749, the idea of installing two garage doors on my house was proposed by Daniel. I provided the invoices for the HVAC and electrical work to Harvey and Daniel for repayment. ? On August 27, 2013 I sent an email to Daniel and Harvey explaining what my wife and I felt was fair compensation for all the issues. We requested the following: reimbursement of $749 for the HVAC and electrical work, garage doors for my house with an electric door opener, and $1000 compensation for lost work time, project delays and frustrations. Harvey indicated we would be reimbursed for the $749 and said Daniel would be out to our house to measure for the garage doors but didn?t comment on the $1,000 compensation. On September 18, 2013 I called Josh Menchaca, 31-W Regional Manager, because I was not getting any answers from Harvey on the $749, the garage doors or the $1,000. I explained the situation and series of events and Josh explained that there would be no additional compensation of any kind beyond the $749 for my additional out of pocket costs. He stated that as long I received the foam insulation, no matter how long it took or the amount of time or frustration I dealt with, there was nothing else 31-W was going to do. I can?t tell you how angry that made my wife and I feel. To think that a large company like 31-W has a policy of not caring about what a customer faces with issues or problems with the installation of a product just blows my mind. I sent this information to the 31-W corporate office in Tennessee but did not receive a response from the company. I was finally reimbursed for the $749 in the middle of October.
Description of Work: Installed closed cell spray foam insulation in a bonus room above a detached garage.
