With something as complex as a home, simply discussing things with the homeowner doesn't do anyone any bit of good as the homeowner cannot possibly remember all the important details in the long run. Also, no definitive answer on whether or not the house is continuing to "settle", will "settle" more in the future, and whether it is advisable to use professional services to install smart jacks and lift things back where they originally were many years ago. Wanted to know where load-bearing beams were located in a quadrant of the structure and after discussing things, left in same position as before visit--- there was no point in this and I received no lasting benefit (i.e. nothing on paper) so might as well have just lit three $100 bills on fire :(
Sorry to be so critical. But this is my home. Wasn't asking for much, just an appraisal/location of load-bearing walls and whether home is in fact still settling or not. Would expect a written evaluation in the very least to summarize the evaluation. Oh well. Lesson learned.

I didn't even know what a structural engineer was, so it was a daunting task! I was very impressed with his resume on ASG's website. He came promptly and charged reasonably.
