Went very well once the weather cooperated and the rain went away. Steve was easy to work with and I enjoyed talking with his crews. They obviously know what they are doing. The quality of the work is excellant.

The work went very well. They were communicative and responsive and showed up to do the work when they said they would. The finished sidewalk looks great and they did a great clean-up job after the work was completed.

Steven and Shannon were excellent to work with. I thought they priced the work fairly, established a reasonable timeline, and kept me posted on progress. I couldn't have been more comfortable working with them and have started recommending them to family and friends.

We had multiple quotes and chose Custom Hardscapes Inc because we felt that our job meant more than just another "job" to them. They called multiple times to make sure things were going well and if we had any questions about the work before and after. I would definitely call them again when we decide to do any sort of landscaping and paving projects.

It truly was the best home project I have had. From the very first appointment to the end of the project Shannon and Steve ensured this was the most stress-free experience. Sure there were weather delays, but nothing that could be controlled, however I always received notification of what to expect. I often work from home and the crew was the very best, hardly even knew they were there. The quality of the work was fantastic, we love what was created and so appreciate how it was done by hand, and not just from a kit. I definitely plan on hiring Custom Hardscapes for other outdoor projects next year.

Work was started on time. President of company (Steven Holland) came out to mark where retaining walls were to be constructed. Everything went according to expectations thru project, however, cleanup was lousy (a lot of gravel in yard where work was performed and indentations in yard where bobcat drove were not repaired). Within a month of project complete, we noticed the following problems: - Grout between flagstone on porch was cracking in many places. - Grout on retaining wall cap stones cracked. - About 1/4 of edging stones were not secured with plastic clip and spike. - Some of the pavers are loose and move when you walk over them. - Everytime it rains, sand and small gravel wash out from inbetween pavers, leaving patio dirty. - Moisture is seaping up from under the pavers. After over 1 week without rain, there is still notiable moisture between pavers. Not sure where the moisture is coming from, but there are no water lines or plumbing below or near the patio. The Patio is under a deck and screened porch area. Called Custom Hardscapes president (Steven Holland) to inform him of the poblem. He sent out a crew who repaired some of the cracks in the grout on the porch and had more sand swept between the cracks of the pavers. The repair of the cracks in the grout on the porch has already cracked again and the material they used for the repair is a different shade from the original grout so it makes the repair noticable. The other problems were not addressed. I have called multiple times to get him to address the problems, but he does not answer his phone when I call. I have left numerous message and finally I left a message on his phone indicating I was going to file a complaint with the BBB of Raleigh, NC and then later that day someone showed up, but only to spread more sand on the pavers, not to fix the moisture/drainage issue or secure the loose pavers. They didn't do any work and said they would talk to the president (Steven Holland) and come back in the morning. No one ever showed up after this or called. The president or his representatives from Custom Hardscape have not returned my phone calls in over 2 weeks now. My recommendation is to stay far away from Custom Hardscapes. Poor quality of work and no guarantee for the work they do.

After researching, interviewing and meeting with three contractors, we chose Steven Holland's company to do the work. He is very personable, knowledgeable and understood exactly what our current issues were, what we were trying to achieve and how best to get us what we wanted with his own suggestions and ideas thrown into the mix which were very welcome. His crew showed up early each day and a project that I would have expected would take a couple of weeks was completed in 6 days. Steven showed up every day to check progress and ensure everything was pitched properly and laid out as desired. We made 2 changes during the course of the project which Steven adjusted too easily and willingly. A front yard area that was ugly and unusable is now our favorite place to be with the addition of the paver patio. The driveway looks fantastic and has brick bands across it that my wife had envisioned and came out perfect. We couldn't be happier with the work done by Steven and his crew.

Steven Holland arrived at the agreed time to gain the scope of work and he replied that evening with a quote. We made some changes to lower the cost of the job and accepted the quote. The workers arrived within the time frame indicated to start the job and the workers were great to work with and would clean up after the days work. Completed the job in time frame estimated. We are extremely happy with our new walkway.

Custom Hardscapes Inc. was recommended to me, I met with the owner Steven Holland in Early March '09 to go over what I wanted. Steven was very eager and willing to take on the project. The first price he quoted was too expensive so we changed the wall material to be used so that it would match exactly an existing wall. The change brought down the cost considerable but he also pulled out of the quote some other materials like fill dirt to lower the cost. He stated he didn't think we were going to need it with the new wall material. We agreed on the price and they started working about a week later. They first constructed the retaining walls, two walls one above the other not to exceed 30 inches high for each wall. There was to be a 36 inch separation between the top of the lower wall and bottom of the upper wall (Tiered). After the lower wall was constructed they began work on cleaning out the existing drainage ditch which was full of erosion material and rock. They also dug the driveway extension at the same time. After both walls were completed and the drainage ditch re-built there were two problems that surfaced. The first was the amount of dirt that was placed back into the drainage ditch which was supposed to be just weed barrier with large rock over the top covering the ditch from the base of the retaining wall to the opposite side of the ditch. Instead what we ended up with was weeds and grass growing from the ditch in large amounts where there was insufficient rock to cover the bottom of the ditch and significant amounts of dirt placed back into the ditch with the rock. There were several gaps in the rock coverage and just gravel with dirt. When I complained to the owner of Custom Hardscapes they came out and moved the rocks around to try and cover the bare spots so I wouldn't see them. They also sprayed Roundup on the weeds already a foot high. The other issue which did not show up until measurements were taken in mid May to begin landscaping the area between the two walls we noticed that the walls did not follow each other or in other words were not aligned with each other. The Base of the the upper wall was 56 inches from the top of the lower wall at one end and 36 inches from the lower wall at the other end. This was not evident when we paid for the work, it wasn't until the fill dirt all settled and flattened out that we started to notice the widening between the two walls at on end. When I showed pictures of the measurements to the owner of Custom Hardscapes he excused it by blaming the type wall we choose, when I challenged his excuse he then changed to a time lapse for me to bring up the issue and offered to move the wall at a price. There is more detail and lots of pictures of the problem but Custom Hardscapes in my opinion cut corners to make up for the price reduction and in a hurry to get to another job.
