They did great and they did fine. It was a new house and it's a part of a warranty service that they did. They could have come a little earlier. It took them a while to get out there.
Description of Work: They did the resealing around the vents where it was attached to the air handler. There was a little bit of leak there.

Failure occurred over the weekend and as a new customer with no maintenance agreement we received a call Monday morning to schedule a repair man to come out and diagnose our problems. It turned out to be a broken blower fan assembly which was a special order item as this unit is 10 years old. This unit serves as both an air-conditioner and LP furnace for the first floor of the house and the fan assembly is a large squirrel cage type blower. Both the squirrel cage blower and a fan motor were ordered since it appeared both were defective when unit jammed up and blades were broken. After three days went by I called to check status of parts since we didn't hear from anyone. Later in the day I received information that the parts would arrive in another day or two. At the end of the week the porch did arrive and a different service man was dispatched to make the repairs. The fan assembly was changed and it was soon discovered that the replacement motor was not the correct type for this unit. After testing the original motor it was determined that the motor was in good working order and so only the fan assembly was needed to repair the unit and placed back in service. We were charged for the diagnostic visit the replacement fan assembly and the time spent installing the fan assembly a total of $400.

Repair tech discovered a bad capacitor that was just replaced a few weeks back as part of pm checkup. The part was replaced free, but was charged for service call and time to repair. It was also discovered that this unit did not a get a thorough cleaning of the unit as expected for the pm process and so the system was cleaned by removing the covers this time to clean the inside coils. It was also determined that this unit was nearing end of life cycle at 12 yrs and performance vs cost of repair to consider replacing soon.

Preventive maintenance was done on the first zone unit for a 4 ton air conditioning and was determined that unit was operating to specifications so the cleaning was just required. The second zone unit for the second floor required a start capacitor to be changed and the unit cleaned and tested. One month later the 2nd floor unit would fail, due to replacement capacitor failed, and repair tech found that the pm cleaning of coils from a few weeks previous was not good, Unit was not opened, just hosed down.

To begin with, not well at all. The technician left filthy marks all over the house and the outside condensate drain was not installed properly. It appeared that this technician was fired and my job was his last for Carolina Comfort Air. But as soon as I complained to CCA about the condition in which the house was left the situation was handled promptly and MOST professionally. The regional manager took over and arranged for the house to be cleaned (it is a rental and had just been vacated); arranged for a senior technician to go to the site and double check that the installation had been done correctly, and made a very fair adjustment to the bill. I have had extensive dealings with CCA because they do the service on my home and two (previously three) rental houses, and have always been most pleased with them. This was my first dealing with the sales/installation department and I think it was a matter of one bad technician. The company certainly bent over backward to make everything right and I was very happy with the resolution of the situation. They have noted the technician's file as being "non-rehirable" so no one else will have the same problem.

Complete first floor system worked fine for 3 weeks. Then system stopped. Contacted service who scheduled us the following pm. Contacted sales who offered late night service. Declined and too am service. Aug 4 update.Tech arrived at 11am and found an installation issue which they fixed the and took my request for recheck in two weeks to be sure coils which froze up because of install problem are not damaged. But not happy about email exchange with sales person who wanted pat on back for doing the right thing when installers screwed up. He was able to get us next am at 11am service, but I missed a day of work I wouldnt have had to if they had installation done right the first time. They really let us down on install but took it seriously when we had to turn the unit off and camp in our own home overnight. They need do post install inspections on large sales....we should not have had a break down 2.5 weeks after installation....don't care if this is a fluke. You don't let customers down like this. Aug 9 update. System not cooling again...worked Tuesday to Friday night when we turneed it off because it was nice outside. Turned it back on Sunday am when inside temp was above set point and it seemed fine until 4pm when we realized again the outside unit was cycling on and off, but not attaining our set cooling temp. . Called and got Sunday pm service, so they are responsive. Now can call the installation a piece of crap since it has failed to cool now twice since installation a month ago. I cannot take another day off work to be home for weekday service. Unbelievable.

Carolina Comfort Air provided a long time frame in which they would provide service (1-6). Since I was off that day, it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. They called 30 minutes before the technician was due to arrive. The technician was very courteous and respectful of my home. He did the inspection and immediately emailed the report. I'm satisfied and would use this company in the future.

I had them come out to do a leak check on my A/C for a second opinion. The first company I contacted said that it would be $3500 to fix the evaporator coil and pushed hard to sell me a new system. Tim came out and checked my system and yes it was the evaporator coil that was leaking freon. He said there was nothing wrong with my unit and that I didn't need to replace the whole unit just replace the evaporator coil. I scheduled a time for the coil to be replaced and Tim arrived about an hour early. I wasn't home, because he arrived outside of my scheduled appointment time, but he was able to get working on the system and completed a little after I arrived. I highly recommend Carolina Comfort Air as they were reasonable on their service fee/quote and because they didn't feel the need to push me into purchasing a new system I didn't need.

I wish I could have given straight A's across the board, unfortunately that is not the case. The salesman (Willie) was wonderful and very knowledgeable we were quoted (and received) a total cast that was more than $3000 below a competitor's price and we were able to get 36 month interest free financing. We were told the installation would take 1 day, so that's what we arranged for with our work schedules. It actually took two full days with the second day ending at 9:00pm. The guys who did the install were wonderful and I found no fault with them, but it is a bit difficult to make arrangements "on the fly" when you have a job and were given a specific time frame. The electrician left a wire hanging in the closet that had previously housed the heater. We will eventually be taking out that closet to make a larger kitchen and the gentleman that came out to do the final walk-through offered to tack the wire to the inside of the closet. That, however, doesn't change the fact that it didn't "look" professional and makes the space virtually unusable unless the wire is "re-routed". The inspection was scheduled and I arranged to be home to allow the city inspector to enter the house. He, the inspector, didn't show. I had a message on my home phone, that I admit I didn't initially see (we rarely use the home phone) and learned that the inspector had come and inspected while we were at work and someone from Carolina Comfort would be out the following Monday to seal the unit. Wonderful, everything was complete and we were good to go. Not the case. I came home two weeks later to a hang tag from the city inspectors saying I missed my appointment and needed to re-schedule....WHAT????? I called the city and was told that Carolina Comfort Air was supposed to have informed me of an electrical inspection and, no, I couldn't re-schedule it had to be the company who did the install. I then contacted Carolina Comfort Air only to be told "that department had left for the day" and that they had been having problems with the city inspectors and contact being make with customers. It seems that they were missing my point....I had never been told about another inspection. The following day I was contacted by someone who does handle permits and informed that the city does the final inspection (which requires them to be able to access the inside of the home) "at their leisure" and I would have to re-schedule the inspection.....WHAT???? I had already been told by the city that I couldn't re-schedule (a term I use grudgingly because I never knew there was an inspection scheduled to begin with). I am now waiting for that inspection. To be clear, we are (so far) very happy with the new system and don't have problem with anything to do with the system, install staff or sales. Our problem(s) are with an apparent disconnect with their "offices" and the customer. We should have been told that it might take longer than one day to install to allow us to be prepared instead of blind-sided. As for the inspection fiasco I have no idea who is to blame, but I feel we are the ones who are left to clean up someone's mess.

IT WENT GREAT!!! Eric was VERY professional and very courteous. He cleaned up after himself. He was cautious of our two cats as to make sure he didn?t let them out. He took his time. He explained everything he did and answered all of my questions to the fullest. His concern for the respect of our home was awesome. I defiantly feel comfortable with this company and hope that Eric will be the one to come back out in the fall to complete our services again. The reason the cost was $329 was because I purchased the Comfort Protection Plan. A little steep for the year, but so far, well worth it.

We purchased two complete carrier hvac systems. We got quotes from several companies and it came down to Home Comfort and Air Experts. Both met each others quote for the exact same system. We went with Home Comfort for only two small differences: larger service force and Lee seemed to know what he was talking about a bit more. Initially all was well. Our salesman Lee was responsive and very nice. We did have to have them come back after installation a few times as they messed up the ceilings putting in new vents. They kindly sent a painter and all was resolved. This is where our experience went from great to terrible. Within weeks our air conditioning on the second floor quit. The pan under the ac unit was full of water and the coil was frozen over. Home Comfort came out and replaced the coil. It then froze over again and additional services were done. Home Comfort finally replaced the entire system. All was fine for two months and then the coil froze over again and we had no ac on some of the hottest few days of summer. I have two children under 3 so this is a major deal. I have waited home for over 14 days waiting for service and installation (I stopped counting after that). Two weeks of time I could have been doing something else. I was informed that we could get a tech out between 1-6 which I informed them that we needed to be out the door by 4 pm as we had vacation plans. I was assured they would be there and done by 4. By 3:30 they had not yet showed up. I called the service department and the tech was not going to be able to make it until after 5:30 at the earliest and he had several stops before us. I was unhappy to say the least. After waiting for them multiple times over the summer already I refused to let them mess with my vacation plans this time. I spoke to our sales guy Lee who explained that the issue was a recalled part by carrier that they found out about a week previous. He then claimed it wasn't their fault and that "if you want to get down to semantics" we should have chosen a different system so all of our issues were really our fault. The AC system is now working. We spoke with another rep who has resolved everything to our satisfaction. If you do go with Home Comfort do not use LEE as your sales rep. All other people I spoke to including the technicians and those in the call center were very nice.

Justin did a thorough review of our situation (we had already gone through 4 others, some good some not so good) and provided a reasonable estimate very quickly. We did our best to ?deconstruct? it (Trane estimates provide detailed line items but only a total cost, so it takes a bit of deduction to figure out what you?re paying for so it can be compared with how much it may really be worth). There were items in the estimate, though, that seemed a bit much. CCA was really quick, was really professional, was in a good price range, really made a positive impression. We submitted questions, expecting to clarify the issues. Then, we never heard from Justin again. We decided to get two more bids but also to give CCA a second chance. After speaking with a supervisor, they sent out Lee. He provided a a revised estimate that made much more sense (and cost a fair amount less than Justin's). But, by then, it was too late. We had received a quote for similar parts and labor at a slightly lower cost from another vendor/contractor who had good reviews (in and beyond Angie?s List) so they got the contract. We have kept the paperwork from CCA, though. We will likely need a furnace replacement in coming years and we liked their recommendations (and price) far better than what anyone else provided. See below for the rest of our experience. We had to deal with the failure of 2 HVAC systems within 3 weeks. We knew nothing almost about HVAC at the start. The web is an excellent source of relevant education, though there?s plenty of questionable advice out there (as with any other topic). Not into doing your research? Expect to get fleeced. We had estimates that varied by as much as 2-fold in cost. If you?re not on your game, contractors will sell you just about anything. Some expenses of thousands of dollars may net just a few dozen dollars in savings for just a few months out of the year. It?s typical to have estimates padded with replacement of perfectly good parts, unnecessary supplies, and accessories that add substantially to the bottom line. Really want to get fleeced, if the breakdown occurs during extreme weather (hot or cold), let the vendor know you want it fixed ASAP. We had the opportunity to cope with part of the house sweltering and another part relatively comfortable. With the two breakdowns back to back, it got old but it helped us save thousands of dollars; upwards of $8,000 for the two installations if we only count legitimate estimates. Take all the estimates and we saved over $12,000. We can?t be certain we have chosen the most durable equipment; that kind of data seems completely unavailable. There is enough information out there to learn which equipment is harder to repair. Remember that labor costs are a BIG component of HVAC work. If you have to buy a specially made, hard to find capacitor and it takes a rocket scientist working with a trained mouse to wedge it into a tiny space, you?re looking at several hundred dollars for what might cost less than a hundred dollars to do in a well designed product. AND, watch those servicemen. wait until they finish the entire review of your system and layout what it will cost to fix it. We payed one guy over $100 to fix something marginal on our air handler only to find out, when he went outside, that he suspected all along the compressor was likely the problem and would require replacement. On the whole, we benefitted by?hovering? over the repair and installation technicians. In the course of pleasant conversation, we learned tons about our systems as well as what else was out there on the market. These guys work in blistering heat, freezing cold, spaces so small and unpleasant no one should have to go there, and most people hate them because they?re associated with high expenses they do not understand (not the technicians fault). Most of these guys will appreciate if you show that you?ve made some effort to learn about their trade. They?re the first to tell you it isn?t rocket science, but these guys typically know a lot and are grateful for an opportunity to shine rather than be put down. Really, it?s a win-win for everybody. You save money and get a good education and they get a well-deserved ego boost.

The A/C Unit was not cooling the house off. It was cooler outside of the house than it was inside. The Technician, Tim, came out and inspected the unit and found that it was leaking refrigerant and that the coils have iced over. He melted the ice and charged the unit with coolant. He explained what had happened thoroughly and what he had done to fix the problem. He gave me an invoice minus my agreement discounts and coupons. He was way nice and attentive. I would highly recommend them.

Excellent! Could not have gone better. After reading Carolina Comforts Mission Statement and other client reviews and after meeting David Turner, with his promptness, honesty and professionalism, we felt we did not need to request another proposal and did not. Installment went the same way. Josh and his team were the most professional, knowledgeable, respectful AND 3 of the hardest working polite gentlemen that I have had the pleasure of working with in long time. Can not forget the helpful and courteous ladies that work their office. Their promptness with answering calls and follow up was greatly appreciated. They are friendly, professional and willing to help with anything needed. Our whole experience with Carolina Comfort Air was great and went better than ever imaged. It would be an honor to recommend Carolina Comfort, for small and large jobs, to our friends and neighbors. Thanks to everyone!
Description of Work: Removed and replaced existing system with a Trane XR16 ac, XB90 furnace. Reconnected wiring, ductwork, pipings and everything needed to make our system efficient and "perfect". Cleaned when they left and before installation, covered our carpet completely from front door, upstairs and to the old unit. Very considerate!

I would rather not discuss the cost of the service. What stood out to me the most about them was their price as well as their quality.
Description of Work: I used Carolina Comfort Air Inc. two weeks ago for a heat pump replacement.

My heater stopped working mid-winter. I was a new customer and after calling them we had the repair person on site the next day (I hadn't called until the end of the day or they said they could have likely gotten to me same day). The repairman was professional and courteous and thoroughly explained the problem (we didn't know it was a thermostat issue) and offered some other suggestions for keeping the system running smoothly in the future. Very happy with the service. It wasn't cheap but I felt it was very reasonably priced especially considering the professional level of the work.
