You Move Me

I liked their service. They were timely, professional, courteous and their price was very fair. I would use them again and refer them to others.

It started very well from our onsite free estimate. As we walked around our home it was suggested we have large art work and mirrors boxed for protection, which we gladly excepted. We were told our mattresses would be wrapped for free or boxed for a fee to protect against dirt, germs and to protect. Our estimate was 2,600 for six men. The day of our move I received the expected phone call letting me know when the movers would arrive.... we were even offered coffee and bottle water. Needless to say we were impressed, this is the reason we chose them above their competition plus the great Angie's list reviews. Well, no coffee or bottle water came I found out later our mattresses and box springs were never wrapped or boxed. Two of our expensive art pieces weren't boxed and yes, they were both damaged. Things I had marked to use in the apartment were packed away behind heavy furniture and boxes.... like my nebulizer which I didn't have access to for several days. Those with asthma knows how dangerous that could have been. A large granite top table seating six blocked a bedroom door. Outdoor yard equipment were left in our apartment hall. The movers stated it was put on the wrong truck.... no one from You Move Me ever offered to move to our storage. Several items were left at our home which took my husband and I until 4am to finish the move alone for which we had to rent a truck after paying 2,700 + for the move. We then had to rent another truck to move items from our apartment that should have gone to storage! This move was a nightmare for my husband and I. To make matters worse I had recently had a injury and had to have knee surgery three weeks prior to our move. I did contact the company after the move to inform them of everything that went wrong. A representative contract me and eventually came and move things around so we could access the bedroom and find my nebulizer. We were told we would be reimbursed for having to rent two trucks and given boxes for our large mirrors and art pices for which we are now expected to pack ourselves. We have been offered $25.00 each for the two 799.00 each art pieces that were damaged which were supposed to be protected in boxes. Angie's List is and was at the time offering $75.00 off a move of four hours or more.... which was never given. You Move Me has stated they would only refund us 325.00 which includes the $75.00 Angie's List discount. To this date we have not received the $325.00. Even as bad as things were for us I think You Move Me would be great for small moves like a one or two bedroom apartment. But for a large move I personally think a long haul type moving company would serve a move of this magnitude much better. I failed to mention one of the six movers was ill and left two hours into the move. We were charged $275.00 per hour for the two hours he was at our home. Today I went by our storage unit and found our things looked liked they had been thrown into the unit. Our refrigerator was placed so close to the storage unit door it got caught on the door when I attempted to open the door!!!! *Please see pictures*

First off, I have to say that You Move Me was one of the few companies who actually returned my initial call. A few days after the call, Rhakimio came to our apartment to answer our questions and calculate our estimate. He arrived when he said he would and was very professional in both his appearance and presentation. He answered all our questions and explained how the movers would handle some of our belongings. On moving day Curtis and Tyler showed up when they said they would and immediately started packing. Curtis and Tyler were such gentlemen and were truly concerned not only with making sure our belongings were properly packed and loaded but also with making sure I had no issues or concerns. On delivery day they were running a bit late due to traffic but called and kept us apprised on their ETA. Again, they started working as soon as they arrived at the house, and before leaving at the end of the job we walked around the house to see if we wanted any of the furniture moved to a different location. Curtis and Tyler proved to be a great team and worked very well together. They are probably the nicest movers we have ever had. All in all, this might have been our easiest move, and we have moved a lot.

It went great. The whole family loved Curtis and Jacob. My sister-in-law said they were "dreamy." First of all, Curtis was the only mover who volunteered to come to the house in NC to see the furniture. He quickly had an understanding of what would need to have pads and wrapping (what was antique). He also broke down the price in a way that no other mover had done. He broke it down into fuel, labor, insurance. He was by far the most professional mover I contacted. I was ready to hire him on the spot. The day of the move, he brought coffee and tea to my mom and my sister (who were meeting him at that end of the move). It was so relaxing that they sat in the kitchen and had a visit while Curtis and Jacob worked. In March I helped my parents with their move from FL to NC, and it was nowhere near that relaxing! (No one was sitting in the kitchen having coffee for that move.) Curtis and Jacob then loaded up and headed to WV, where my mother-in-law's house is being cleaned out. My husband had found a bunch of stuff he wanted to throw in the truck that was unexpected (I had sent Curtis a few photos of the larger WV items in advance). Curtis and Jacob helped wrap up the additional stuff and put it in the truck with no complaining. They were positive and took whatever was thrown their way. They ended up getting on the road later than expected but did not complain. Then--Brookline. They got stopped at a weigh station, but of course Curtis had all his paperwork in order, so all was fine. In Brookline, I'm in a third-floor walkup, and they did not bat an eye. At all three locations, they put pads down to protect the floors. Nothing was broken. They were also just easy, smart people to have around. My parents are moving again and are planning on hiring Curtis. I've not been good about writing reviews in the past (not sure I've ever even written one), but I have truly never seen a move go so well and I do believe this is the best moving company out there. I'm going to address price here because my husband doesn't know how much it was. He is a do-it-yourself-er and didn't want to pay for the move. It was pricey, but it was worth every penny. It was clearly a complicated move, long-distance, and two people's time over multiple days. I ended up feeling like they worked so hard that they probably should have charged me more. I gave them a tip.

The first part of the job, loading the trucks, went fine. They were punctual and worked hard. Delivery of the load to the new house is where there was a problem. They were supposed to deliver items around 1:00-2:00pm. This was the agreed upon time when the job was scheduled. They showed up to deliver the items in the evening around 7:00-8:00pm, after dark. They told me another job came up which pushed them late for our delivery. While the excessively late arrival/delivery was annoying and inconvenient, the bigger problem was that they were EXHAUSTED. They did, naturally, take shortcuts (asking me if they could leave a heavy item in the garage and not handling a damaged item well). I felt empathy for them because I could see how exhausted they were so I did try to be flexible with special requests. I do think this was a management problem and shouldn't happen to employees much less customers. I did find a severe damage (several months after delivery) to a recliner that was not being used. The mechanical mechanism was completely crushed making the seat of the recliner very low to the ground and unusable. It looks like a very heavy piece of furniture or some other VERY heavy items were put in the seat during the move. I did like the pre-move meeting I had with the manager. He was very helpful and responsive. I like this company's mission and style. I think it would be great if the pre-move manager or a similar level person would contact the customers after the move for feedback. This would be a great addition to their services AND help the management know of issues with scheduling, performance, and other customer issues. (Good PR, too) I would have normally reported the problems I've noted, especially the damages, but was having health problems during this time which prevented this follow up at that time.

The movers were very professional. I liked the fact they showed up in company outfits. They worked very quickly and always checked with me if they had any questions. I was very impressed with the follow-up by the company owner. They had me moved into my new home in a blink of an eye! I thought the house warming gift of a flower pot was a nice touch too!
