Our experience with Vince and his staff was fantastic. They are very prompt and communicated well during all phases of the jobs that they did for us between January and February. I found their quotes very helpful in that they listed the number of expected hours to complete the job as well as estimates for the high to low cost to complete job. I did not feel that there where any surprises. This is a great company and we would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: We had some fascia board work, popped shingles, and they repaired improperly installed shingles. In addition they installed 4 joist supports under the house as well as repaired some boards around plumping lines that had not been done to code. These are all very time consuming and hard jobs to do.

I was having a special event at my home on Christmas Eve. Vincent from the Buzzy Bee had someone out the same day (Christmas Eve) to hang the lights up correctly. He went above and beyond the call of duty. I was very impressed with the service. I am using them for another job in the future.
Description of Work: I had hired another company to hang some holiday lights and soon after they had put them up, the lights had fallen down. I called The Bizzy Bee to see if they could help.

They did a full estimate ahead of time. He has to do plastering to restore the windows. We've worked with Bizzzy Bee multiple times before and always appreciated them. They are punctual, they come when they say they are going to come and do what they say they are going to do. If there is something that they feel will go beyond the estimate, then they stop and check with us and work up and additional estimate and we appreciate that.
Description of Work: They have been here for the past 2 weeks. They fixed the siding, prepared the rot damage all the way down to the plywood all the way down to the chimney. Now they are working on my windows on one side of the house.

Response from Vince Curcio - The Bizzzy Bee
I am honestly shocked by these comments and the facts are completely wrong; Even the address on the report is wrong. I have reviewed the actual facts of these repairs and they are as follows: We repaired flood damage at the customers residence located at 1232 Long Paw Ln. Charlotte, NC 28214. There was flood damage & various repairs in three areas. The bedroom, the hallway & the bathroom. The report only mentioned the bathroom. The report stated that the job took 6 months to gut 1 room ??? The true fact is that it only took 4 ½ weeks to completely remodel the bathroom AND repair damage in the bedroom AND hallway. We started the job on 07-27-2010 & ended on 08-19-2010. We were able to get the job done in less time than the original bid & my lead technician even did 35Hrs of work for free to help out because of the enormity of the damage, the customer's age and the tough circumstances she was in. Additionally, the air conditioner was broken and he did this in the heat of summer. The report said that the job was $10,000 but it was actually $1,700.00 in materials & $5,000.00 in labor. The total of $6,700.00 actually billed is far less than the overstated $10,000 in the customer's report. The repairs were too much for her to financially handle all at one time and so I agreed to allow for interest free payments as this was the fourth job we had done for this customer and we had an established history together. To date the unpaid balance is $3,700.00 and I have not made an issue about the money. I was and still am genuinely concerned for the customer's welfare and have proven so by my actions. I only know of 2 negative things that happened and that was avoidable had I been informed sooner. The technician needed to come back to adjust the vanity doors and one item was forgotten in the garage when we hauled away the debris. I was not informed until 2 ½ months after the job was completed. As far as I knew all was well based on my last conversation with the customer. Once I was informed that there was an issue, I got my technician back out to make corrections as needed and we picked up the item left behind. We have been more than generous and fair with the customer and were even complimented for our work by the customer verbally when the job was complete and in her report she said the work was good. Before we even began the project, we tried to get the customer help through her church and made special efforts on her behalf at our own expense. So I am left confused and stunned by her negative report. Even so I wish her well. Vince C. / Bizzzy Bee

We started out with a seemingly rotten garage door frame that turned into a rotten structural beam that had to be replaced. The Bizzzy Bee was very helpful in explaining what all needed to be done (getting permits, structural engineer etc) and did a wonderful job replacing that old beam. We then decided to do an overhaul of the whole house with new Windows and replacing the rotten siding. This was going to be a big and long job and I practically lived with the Bizzzy Bee guys for a couple of months. They were always on time or would let me know if they wouldn't be there first thing in the morning. They were very considerate of not intruding too much into my life. They answered all my questions, explained everything about the job I wanted to know. They NEVER gave me the feeling that as a woman I wasn't worthy of their time and explanations. They treated me with respect. I learned a lot about building materials and how things should look like when done correctly. I had Lowe's install the first patch of new windows. Lowes installed them into rotten frames without even mentioning the rot. Thank goodness I had the Bizzzy Bee guys working at my house. They discovered the badly rotten window frames, took the windows back out for me and built new frames. Since it turned out that all our windows where in bad shape we ordered our second patch of windows from Lowes but had the Bizzzy Bee install them. I am VERY happy with all the work they have done. Our house looks like new again and I know the workmanship is way superior to the one originally put into this house.

I called to request an estimate for the replacement of the two doors projects and Vince and Brian both came out at the scheduled time to provide an estimate. I felt confident at this initial meeting that Brian was the best person for the project. I confirmed my desire to have Brian complete the projects and approx. 2 days after I signed and returned the estimate, Brian began work on the projects. He met me at the home improvement store and assisted with helping me select the doors and paint. The projects were completed over a two-day period. Brian did an excellent job. A new door frame for the garage door had to be constructed, which turned out very nice. Both of the new doors look excellent and Brian took extra care to paint and prime them in a meticulous way. I trusted him completely when I was not at the house while work was being done and left him with my keys and key fob for the security system. He even went above and beyond and agreed to transport many old paint cans with him to the dump for recycling. Out of his good will, he also replaced a door stopper on a bathroom door located near the side house door project. Finally, the spaces in which he worked were left extremely clean. I really enjoyed working with Brian and would not hesitate to hire him again for projects. Vince was also a pleasure to work with and I have confidence that he provided me with a very fair estimate for the projects. Both Brian and Vince are genuinely committed to customer satisfaction. I highly recommend working with them!

Vince did the work in two days, the two large tree trimmings on one day, involving climbing high and getting the right limbs and branches off. The river birch strapping and adjusting was done on another day. As always, all debris was hauled off after excellent work AND Vince's policy is to not seek payment until all work is done to the customer's satisfaction. In addition to using Vince for handyman work now, we'll also be using him for all our tree work. The guy really is multi-talented!
Description of Work: I needed two large trees trimmed--a pin oak in the front yard and a gumball in the back yard. They are both so large that if a heavy wind were to blow them down, our house would be crushed. That is why I have them trimmed every year so that the wind blows through them and not against them. In addition, I have a river birch in the back yard which has grown at an angle to gain more sun, growing over our deck. It needed to be strapped to another large tree and pulled back with an adjustable pulley.

The work was simply excellent, done in one day and all debris removed to take to the dump. He actually went above the work quoted (for no extra charge) in order to make the gazebo site a beautiful place. That is Vince's reputation, though--work above and beyond to do it right for the customer.
Description of Work: While preparing our back yard natural area for a gazebo to be installed, we needed to have a number of trees removed and others trimmed in order to have the room for a 6x6 foot diameter by 8 foot high gazebo. Vince Curcio and his company have done handyman work for us in the past. He mentioned to me that he got his beginning by doing tree work. He removed the deadwood in one tree, completely removed 6 trees and then trimmed the surrounding trees to raise the available height and open the gazebo site.

We've used Lenny before and knew that anything he does gets done with a keen eye for form and function. His work made the front of the house (brick and paver work) and the driveway brick lining safer and much more appealing. It took a little longer to complete the job than first thought (9/17/10 to 10/7/10) BUT everything that was done had to be done to do it right. My wife and I were very pleased with the outcome and Lenny's professionalism. In addition, Vince has a policy that he doesn't seek payment until everything is completed and to the customer's satisfaction. It's the reason we call him first whenever we have any handyman type jobs to do (I'm only good with the very little stuff and my wife knows that!). Vince is absolutely the best service provider we've ever worked with and he hires the best specialists for the jobs required (we've used an electrician and plumber before from him). Lenny----well, Lenny is simply a master at brick/tile/paver work.
Description of Work: Our driveway and sidewalk had edged drop-offs on each side. We wanted a brick lining along both sides of the driveway and sidewalk so no one would twist ankles anymore (which has happened). Vince Curcio, the owner, came out with Lenny to review the requested job, and provided an estimate. As Lenny (the tile/brick/paver wonder man) began work, he noticed that a plastic drainage pipe ran underground along the driveway, requiring additional work to dig deeper and then to replace that piping since it had started to develop leaks. He also noticed cracks in the driveway, needing caulking, and found a number of broken pavers and bricks in other retainer walls along the front of the house natural area, the brick mailbox base, the trash can paver base and the front porch, as well as cracks on the front porch. He pointed them out to me before proceeding so I could make an informed decision and, as usual, Lenny's suggestions were spot on to make the entire job complete. He also laid down a paver base for our new recycling container.

We've had Lenny do work for us before so we knew how it would go. There was "the plan" and then there was "the implementation" which improved upon the plan as he discovered ways to make the project turn out much better (no extra cost). He takes pictures as he goes, talks to us during the project before moving from one stage to the next, and gains approval for any new ideas he has (and they are always good ideas). If every service provider like Vince had an employee like Lenny, Angie's List would have many more positive experiences to report!
Description of Work: We had a basic gazebo built and installed in our back yard natural area. It needed an improved foundation (more solid), brick steps to get into it, lattice around the bottom to cover the raised base and a brick paver walkway to get there from the natural area entrance. Vince Curcio (owner) and Lenny (the tile/brick/paver wonder man) provided ideas and an estimate, then Lenny proceeded to exceed expectations, as he's done several times in the past. The result was a solid gazebo (no storm will blow it over now) and a beautiful paver entryway to the gazebo for entertaining guests, with secure steps up into the gazebo. His attention to detail (truly attention to detail) made this gazebo the centerpiece of our back yard natural area.

Contacted Bizzzy Bee on 12/29 in the am, made them aware I needed an estimate and work start date on repairing water damaged exterior OSB under siding and to identify and repair the cause of the leak. The owner contacted me the same evening to make sure that his people had communicated with me as promised. This was impressive!!! The repair man showed up on time on Fri 12/31, assessed the damage and gave a rough estimate on repair hours. I asked him to provide me a written estimate as quickly as possible including work start date since the OSB was now open to the weather. I was contacted on 1/5 at 9 pm and told that an estimate was being emailed to me. I asked if it included a work start date. I was told that I would not get a work start date until I accepted the terms of the estimate. I reviewed the estimate and found that the labor hours quoted to complete the work was 4 times the $ amount as other estimates received. It is my opinion that the labor hours were grossly overstated on this estimate for the work needed including the damage repairs needed that were not visible. I had contacted a few other handymen from Angies list and recieved estimates and work start dates by Mon 1/3. I contracted one of these companies who completed a quality repair on the 6th of January in one day.

Response from Vince Curcio - The Bizzzy Bee
It is clear to me that there are two complaints. The first being that we did not respond fast enough to the request, and the second being that it was felt that we grossly over-estimated the cost of the job. Our office was contacted on 12/29/2010, which was in the middle of two major holidays, the availability of a limited skeleton crew, and while I was preparing to go on vacation. We had hoped to get the estimate delivered sooner, but was unable to do so. While I was on my vacation, I coordinated having one of my lead technicians assess the damage to the home and also discussed with him what he found. We then sent what we thought would be a worst case scenario for repairs. In spite of the holidays and the shortage of men, we were able to send the estimate one week later on the 5th of January. Our desire is to be as efficient as possible with our response to each customer, however in this case, a 7 day response was the best we could do, given the circumstances. As for our estimation of repair cost, I do not like surprising people with extra costs, so I would rather bid too high and pleasantly surprise the customer with good news upon completion of the repairs; rather than bid the job too low and disappoint the customer by having to tell them that the repairs would cost more than we anticipated. Also, we were guesstimating potential repair costs for hidden damage that we could not see within the wall. We only charge for the actual cost of the materials and the actual time that it takes to make the repairs. In this case, once the wall was completely opened, if the damage was minimal, then the labor charge would have reflected what we actually had to repair. Honesty, integrity, and efficient quality service is the norm for our company. With over 200 exceptional reports to our record and 7 consecutive years of super service awards to back our reputation, it is obvious that the needs of our customers is our primary concern.

Brian, the repair man, came promptly at 8am as scheduled, immediately diagnosed the problem and provided a solution. He informed me that he had to pick up a few materials from the hardware store to get the job done. He purchased the materials and completed the job a few hours later. I had to leave the house a few minutes before he completed the job so he suggested that he leave the bill in the mailbox and I just mail the payment in later. Brian was polite and professional. Overall, the experience went well. The estimate provided was in a range, and the price that I paid was within that range. They arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. They fixed the heavy wood bi-fold pantry door that had been off its hinges for quite some time. They adjusted the front and back outside doors, which are French doors. Eliminated the visible light that could be seen around the doors from the inside. They replaced the door sweep on the front door which eliminated noticeable air inflitration and an entry for insects. The entire job took less than a hour.

I bought a older home that needed some general repairs. The back door was not aligned properly and the storm door would not stay locked. They adjusted the door so it was level and fixed the lock on the storm door. There was a cabinet built in the pantry that was taking up too much room. The base board had been cut and the cabinet pushed into the corner. I couldn't tell if it had been put on top of the existing vinyl floor or on a sub floor. Unfortunately when he removed the cabinet there was no floor underneath. Luckily I had a remnant of the existing vinyl so he was able to piece it in and put in new base board and toe molding. There were also two large gashes in the same vinyl in the kitchen area. I don't know how he did it but he fixed the gashes. The floor looks brand new. No one would believe the floor has been pieced together.

The business appears to be a family business... The gal that answers the phone and the guy that does the follow up (Vince) are relatives. Vince did a great job of following up WITHOUT being too pushy. At one point there was a change in the time they were to arrive for the initial inspection and he called well in advance to let me know. They were easy to reach by phone and provided a wide time to take calls... something like 8am - 10pm. The original estimate was provided by Duane. He was on time, took his time answering my questions, and did a thorough job with taking notes. The estimate was provided by email 4-5 business days later and clearly reflected the tasks that we identified on the inspection. A day or two after receiving the estimate Vince C called to follow up. A couple of days later I called him, got a couple of questions answered, signed the estimate (after eliminating some paint work that I opted to not have done), and mailed the estimate in. Vince indicated that it would be 2-3 weeks before the work could be started; it was more like 4 weeks but that was fine with me. We were not in a huge hurry. There was a 1 day delay in the actual start date of the work due to a rain delay on the job that preceded my job start. Vince, again, informed my of the delay so there were no issues. Stuff happens. When the work finally did begin I was surprised when Duane showed up by himself. I expected 4-6 guys in here knocking out the work in a single day. Instead, Duane took about 3 days to do the work. We were delighted with having Duane do the work and the workmanship that he delivered. The fact that he was here for 3 days was not an issue. In fact we felt like he did a better job than if a crew was in here to knock out the job and move on to the next. I would definitely hire this company again... not only for roofing, but also general handyman services, such as rotten wood on the exterior of the home. One of the services that I was looking for was to have some of the high wood trim painted on my ranch home. For this service their prices seemed high which I took as "we can do it but it's not our forte". The roofing, wood repair, and dry wall repairs were fairly priced at $45 / hour + materials. All receipts for materials were provided. One of the biggest decision points that helped me opt to go with this company... No payments until the work was completed. To summarize, the business office provided a comprehensive and detailed estimate. Follow up was very good before the job started. Communication on schedule changes were well communicated. No money down was key. The work was performed by the same guy who did the estimate, so there was no need to go over the work list again with a new crew. The hourly rate was fully disclosed.
Description of Work: Roof maintenance... replace vent boots... replace worn roof shingles... fix roof nail lifts/leaks... Replaced/repaired rotten wood in outside fascia... Repaired water damaged ceiling in high ceiling family room.

I could not be any happier. There is one man that is doing most of the work. He is phenomenal; he knows what he is doing and discusses everything with me before actually doing it. He is gracious, polite, and professional. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: They are removing all of the wood rot and rebuilding my chimney.

When I was making calls to other companies, they were not willing to do the work since they did not install the windows, but Bizzy Bee was willing to come out and help us. I received a call back and an email very quickly after leaving a message. They were willing to come out on the weekend to look at the window and fix the leak, which was great since both my husband and myself work during the day. They came out when they said they would, they do charge a minimum of 2 hrs. of work, but they were able to complete the job in those two hours. We even asked about something else that is going on in the house and they advised us how we could fix the problem ourselves.
Description of Work: We had a leaky window, they came out looked at the window and evaluated where the leak was coming from. They had to remove some outside casing around the window and pulled back some of our siding to make sure there wasn't more damage to the house other than a leaky window. There is a piece above the window that was not installed correctly when the house was built. They attached this piece properly, sealed it and replaced the siding and the outside trim/casing to the window.

My bay window, poorly installed 2 years ago, started leaking around the window trim after I had put the house on the market. Depending on the estimate I had a choice to make 1) repair, 2) replace or 3) list on disclosure document and factor into the price of the house. I contacted the Bizzy Bee to give me an estimate for the work. They came out Monday for the estimate and started work. I asked for the estimate but was told they needed to dig into the damage further before an estimate could be given. No solid estimate on Tues but was assured that it would be more expensive to repair than to replace. Same for Wednesday so my decisions were based on this fact. On Friday of that week I was given the bill for the first 1/3 of work and it was much more than anticipated and not within the replace vs repair $ range we discussed. During the process I requested the bay window be put on my carport and I would dispose of it or donate to Habitat. I was told by two of the employees that Habitat was not interested in old windows because they get so much new material from builders and that my residential service would not pick up windows. I hesitated, as they loaded the window on the truck, but figured they knew better than I since it was their line of work. Of course, found out later that windows are on the approved residential pick up list. I contacted the owner to get a breakout of hours by task and was met with defensiveness and hostility while being accused of trying to get out of the charges. I will not go into the other questions I had with the work but will be finding another company to complete the project.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate to correct/repair a poorly installed bay window (done by a different handyman service) that began leaking 2 months ago during heavy thunderstorms.

Response from Vince Curcio - The Bizzzy Bee
Your report makes it sound as if we kept you in the dark, doing whatever we wanted to & then charged you for it. How Ridiculous. The reality is that you are using Angie’s list to complain because I confronted you about your dishonesty. As if robbing me wasn’t enough, you’ve chosen to add insult to injury attempting to tarnish my good name. How sad For You. The fact is you have used our service in the past. You already knew our rates. You were home the entire time that we worked and never made a complaint. We communicated with you during the process the entire time. You could have changed or stopped the work at any time. We physically showed you everything that we found wrong. We gave you a verbal estimate prior to starting the job, an expected 1 day repair. You agreed & allowed us to start the work. When we started repairs we discovered that there was a more serious problem & showed you what we found explaining that until we opened up the damaged areas we would not know the extent of repairs needed. You authorized us to continue. Once we opened up the damaged areas, we gave you an addendum in writing for the additional repairs. You signed it authorizing us to continue, expressing several times to keep the cost as low as possible. The home going on the market was a major factor in the choices being made. With that understanding we continued with the intent of repairing the bay window, not replacing it. Neither of us knew at that time that the bay window had been improperly installed when it was put in. As we continued, we discovered that there was inadequate framing to safely hold the bay window unit in place. This, in fact, was the cause of the leak & explained why the water damage was so extensive. We were forced to give you options for replacement because the cost of re-framing plus repairs would be higher than the cost of replacement. We presented several options from most expensive to least expensive. After consulting with your realtor, you chose to replace the bay window with a set of French doors. You gave us permission to remove the bay window & prepare the opening for French door installation. By that time, the project had gone from a simple water leak repair to a complete replacement of the bay window & remodeling of the opening. We were at a stopping point waiting for your choice of doors so that we would know how to proceed. We did a progress billing which you paid by check complimenting & thanking my men & I for our work. The next day, you asked for an accounting of the hours which surprised me because you were home the entire time & knew what we had done. I gave you what you asked for without complaint. It wasn’t until after I discovered that you had placed a stop payment on the check that I even knew you had an issue. Up until that point, your compliments & thankfulness had led me to believe that everything was fine.I later discovered that the check had a stop payment put on it the same day that you wrote it, just as soon as we left. That is when I had an issue with you, because you refused to pay the bill & never gave any indication until after the work was done that you might be upset or had any concerns about the work. As for donating your bay window, it has to be free of framing damage & water damage. The condition of the unit has to be safe and usable to be accepted. As for residential bulk pickup, they will not pick up items that weigh 800 pounds. They pick up small bulk items, not entire bay window units. Your damaged bay window was taken to the dump. We did not deceive you or take advantage of you in any way. Your dishonest actions got the work you needed done at the price you were willing to pay. I feel sorry for the next contractor that you use as I fear that he will be treated just as badly. I have your signed estimate at my office, your compliments in an e-mail from you & your cancelled check is on record. Your deceptive and dishonest report is appalling, Again I must say, How sad for you.
