TruGreen

I have used TruGreen for over 15 years and have found their overall service from very good to excellent. Admittedly, with our weather in the Carolina's going from severe drought to significant rains and very humid night causing disease, its hard to get it right 100% of the time. I would highly recommend their services if you want a green, generally lush lawn.

I signed a 1 year contract with the company and I wish I had not - always check Angie's List first - and I learned the hard way. The contract I signed did not make it to billing so they continued to bill me for a higher amount. After no less than 10 phone calls, I finally paid the contract amount. However, the service has been spotty and I actually do not see much benefit for my lawn. I will not renew with them.

The first year went great. Our lawn greatly improved and they were very responsive to a few issues we had. The results were so positive that we persuaded 5 of our neighbors to start service in 2013. I am not sure what has happened, but their customer service is gone in 2013. They did our initial treatment, then called to sell us a fungicide product which we purchased, since we had issues in 2012. After the first fungicide application, our lawn started dying in a few areas, so we called them immediately. They said they would have someone out the following day, and they never showed up. After my 4th call (10 days later), they did get a technician who was not on my route to at least stop by and he did call me. Unfortunately, he services fescue lawns and my lawn is Bermuda, so he wasn't sure if my issue was a fungus problem or not since he did not know Bermuda as well. He did not perform any service on the lawn, as he said my regular person would be out on Monday (this was on a Friday). My regular person still hasn't shown. I have now called them 5 times (twice to corporate and three times to local branch) explaining my problem and asking the general manager to call me to at least explain what is going on since I can't get anyone to come out. It has now been 17 days since I initially contacted them. The only person who did call me was a sales center trying to sell me a lime treatment. I told him about our situation and he said he would share our information with his regional managers and have someone call me (still waiting on that call-back as well). All 5 of our neighbors who purchased their services this year have been having similar customer service issues where they are not showing up when promised and will not call anyone back. All of us have prepaid for a full year's service, so I am not sure if that is why they are being unresponsive since they have our money. One neighbor prepaid and has been waiting 5 weeks for their initial treatment. When I first called to report my issue, my lawn just had a few small dead areas, now I have an issue on almost my entire lawn.

after first treatment, what grass I had was killed. over the next few treatments I had more weeds now then when they started.

Truegreen claims that they sent me bills for the extra treatments that they performed but mysteriously I never received them even though I had my mailing address forwarded to the new home. I didn't even find out about this until I received a notice from a collection agency. This is a terrible way to do business and I told the customer service agent this is a terrible policy and I would never use Trugreen again because of this and she had a "I could care less" attitude.

During three calls I was transferred with no response.During one call I was told that the sales person would call back. He never did. Another three calls I was transferred first to Florida,then Utah, then Tennesee.Another call I asked for the branch manager,I was told he would call and he did but I was not at home. Another call to reach him ended again in failure. ENOUGH!!

Their service is really good. They have done a great job with the lawn. They are reliable and did a good job as far as keeping control of the weeds from the lawn.

I have been using TruGreen for fertilizing and weed killing for two years. They provide 8 services a year. One is for putting down lime. Sometimes they call before coming. and somtimes they don't. This time they showed up without calling. Josiah applied the fertilizer and weed killer in about 15 minutes. He then left the note on the front door explaining what was done. The fertilizer was applied with a spreader and the weed killer was sprayed on. There weren't a whole lot of weed this time of year. The lawn is still fairly green. I have been pleased with the results since I have been using TruGreen. It obviously costs more than what it would to do it myself, but their results are much better, especially in controlling weeds.

At the beginning the service was great, but the last six months we were extremely disappointed. They said they would be out on a specific day and not show up. When we called and left messages we received no response.

I have used Chemlawn for over 10 years. This year they have been very unreliable. They do not answer the telephone at the branch office. Most irritating of all is they do not apply the treatments when due and the corporate office has to be called to get any action I give up. I am shopping for a new company.

DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME AND MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY - ESPECIALLY WITH SO MANY OTHERS TO CHOSE FROM! The first year I noticed some improvementsbut lately the quality, service and responsiveness have become non-existent. Anytime I see something that looks incorrect such as weeds or bald spots in the yard or strange fungus on the trees and bushes it's because of some treatment I haven't purchased. When you call you never know if you're talking to a manager/supervisor, local rep,or regional office. I make appointments for one day only to be told after words that I must have been talking to the wrong person because it 'wasn't on the schedule', which apparently is my fault. This fall was the worst, I have a lot of trees so when it's time to aerate and seed I have to prep the yard and get all the leaves up, which I normally do on the weekend. This year I had to adjust my schedule to get it done during the week and had to do it TWICE. First they claimed they fell behind so missed the scheduled day, then when they finally did show up the yard was covered by leaves, which the Tech interjected his vast knowledge by pointing out that the leaves 'will make it hard for the seeds to get to the dirt'. Of course this lawn generous was correct but went ahead and seeded anyway. So I scheduled another appointment prepared the yard even called them the day of the appointment. Was told they would be here within the hour no later than two, not surprisingly they never showed up. So with this being the final straw I have dropped them as a service. I find it ironic that they are loosing an $800 annual cash flow because of the aeration and seeding service, this has to be a fairly easy and least costly service to provide, even high school kids are making money doing this.

The service was fine until this summer,now it has fallen off a cliff. There services is now just plain pathetic.This summer I needed some additional services for weed control.I made four calls each time placed on hold,finally someone would answer take my number and promise that they would call back.Four times, nobody ever returned my call. In October I call to arrange aeration and seeding.October 11th I am told have your lawn ready we will be out 15th or 16th. October 17th nobody has been out,I call they promise they will be out tomorrow the 18th.

I have tried to get in touch with someone at TrueGreen to either stop their tree service or add the lawn service for one solid week now. At first they told me that someone would get in touch with me within 24 hours but they never did. Later on they started hanging up on me. At first I thought it must be a mistake and then called back and again they hung up. This is so unprofessional. I'm sorry, but I would never recommend them to anyone.

We have used Tru Green for years and have had good service from them until this year! We have lived in our home over 20 years, a one acre lot, and every year we battle brown patch in our front yard. We asked for an early and extra treatment for brown patch for which we paid. Our yard continued to die from brown patch and despite numerous calls for them to please come as my yard was dying daily, it took them 8 days to finally come out!! Our yard this year is awful and half dead. The half that is alive is filled with weeds and sparse, sick looking grass. We have had the most beautiful yard on our street for years until this year. Call after call to Tru Green was met with promises not kept and a constant excuse of "computer glitches". Our BIGGEST complaint was that I asked, as I had every year, to be called, emailed, whatever to let me know the day they would come to spray because we have a dog, who is now nearly 14, and I didn't want him exposed to chemicals and would have him put up on the day they were to come. NOT once did they call me this year as they had in all past years despite my calls of complaints and asking them to please call. My husband took photos of our dead front lawn and sent them to Tru Green asking for our money back. We heard nothing!! After a month, I called and talked to the , Brandon, whom I have spoken to in the past and who is a very rude man. He told me he AND his manager had been out to our house for a look and then each of them tried to call us 3 times each!! We have caller ID and voice mail and had NO calls from them. Why didn't they email us? No response. He said they had been out to our home and we had "drought stress" and not brown patch!! Have we had any drought this year? NO, but we have had brown patch like clockwork every year we've been here and I KNOW brown patch! Anyway, he refused to do a thing and further told me they would NOT call us ever to say they were coming out so I could be sure my dog was put up because of "computer glitches". AMAZING! I googled them and all over the country there are problems with Tru Green. I found 3 separate sites set up and devoted to just Tru Green problems. All the same complaints, dead and weedy yards, denial that they caused any damage, rude and NO customer service. One one site, a man gave the direct phone number to the CEO of Tru Green in Memphis, that number is 901-597-1964. I called and within an hour, a regional manager called me and I asked for our money for brownpatch treatment be refunded and they are supposed to do that. We have not yet received the refund and it's over 3 weeks now. He even asked what it would take to retain us as a customer right after he told me he COULDN'T guarantee a call prior to coming so we could put our dog up. I couldn't believe it! Anyway, I have told every neighbor about our lack of service with them and found that several neighbors already have canceled due to similar experiences or will be canceling. I don't mind paying for any service but when I get NO or harmful service, I feel that we have been taken. Do NOT use Tru Green. If you are thinking about it, just google for "Tru Green complaints" and that will convince you to find another service. Such a shame for this company to go downhill in just one year!!

I have been a TruGreen customer since approximately 1999-2000 time frame. In the last year or so I have noticed significant changes. First my lawn looks terrible, full of weeds and the response to this problem has been terrible from TruGreen. Second, their level of customer service has fallen off a cliff. You cannot call anyone local at all. The local office numbers go to a call center and they will only take a message and state that someone from the local office will call back within 24 hours or 24 business hours. I have been told both. I wanted to be home when the technician arrived today so we could discuss the weeds and brown patches in my lawn ... which seem to now be a constant thing under TruGreen's care. On the morning of 9/4 Trugreen called & left a message that the technician would be out on 9/6 to do the routine fall fertilization treatment. I wanted to be home when he arrived on that Thursday 9/6 so I immediately returned the call, which went to their call center. After being on hold for 6 minutes, I told the "rep" why I wanted to be home when the technician arrived, etc. but she "Paige" didn't really care why, she just wanted the pertinent contact information and said the local office would return my call in 24 business hours (yes, she said 24 business hours = 3 days???). No call was received from Trugreen on 9/4, 9/5 or the morning of today 9/6. So I called again this morning, waited on hold for 8 minutes, and asked the call center rep (don't know her name, I could barely understand her) if someone could call me back today because I wanted to be here when the technician arrived. I was simply told she would leave a message for my local office and mark it "urgent". So I am leaving a message with the call center people who turn around and leave a message for the local office. No wonder the Trugreen service stinks now. Well, my whole purpose was to be home when the guy comes to my home. So I work from home today to ensure when he knocks on my door or rings the doorbell, I'll be here. Seems easy enough, right? ... Well that is dependent on the guy ringing the door bell when he arrives (which I'm told is what is suppose to be the normal procedure). Well, he didn't ... he came and left right under my nose. So I have been trying for 3 days to get a hold of my local Trugreen office ... I just wanted to speak to the people that are caring for my lawn (well, in this case making my lawn worse). And I can NOT get them on the phone. I'm NOT allowed to call them. They now use gate keepers (the call center) to ensure that I, as a long-term customer, CANNOT speak with them ... hence, the desire to be here when the guy came today. As a Realtor, I'm often asked for my opinion or recommendations on service providers ... I have recommended Trugreen in the past based on my personal experience. My lawn used to be the best on the block and I took serious pride in that. Now, mine stinks ... one neighbor does absolutely nothing to his lawn and his looks better than mine and I pay a lot of money to Trugreen. Well, that probably ends today ... as does me recommending them to clients and friends. I fully understand that there are many external factors in a lawn looking good and they are hard to control ... but failing to return 3 days of phone calls is something Trugreen certainly can control and they have absolutely failed in that department. Time to look for a dependable service provider!

We used to use Hot Turf, we discontinued with them and chose them Tru Green.

On the company's first visit they killed a lower section of the yard and would not take responsibility. They did not kill the weeds after several applications, and I had to spray it myself.

Overall they have been pretty good. We haven't had problems with them. It's hard to see an immediate response from it. They put the weed killer on and it takes 6 to 8 weeks for the weeds to be gone. They are due to go again any day now. They gave me a reminder call and I forgot when they are going to come. We are still using them but we are opening to trying something else and we haven't figured what it is yet. The one problem that we had from them was that we are having problems with crabgrass and when I called to report it to get somebody out; they said that somebody came and treated. I am a stay at home mom and they never came the second time when they never did. We are still using them but we are open to trying something else.

I'm writing in regards to their soliciation in my neighborhood - Ravencrest (Ballantyne). Was extremely put off by a guy that came to my house and started his sales pitch with "You know you have xxx type of weed on the side of your yard next to one of our trugreen customers? What do you plan to do about it?". He then proceeded to tell me that if I had ever put anything down on my lawn that I was obviously doing it wrong. After I explained to him that first of all, it's a no soliciting neighborhood, and second I will take care of it myself, he got defensive and started asking me again "what are you planning to do about those weeds". I had to slam the door in his face to avoid this becomming a physical confrontation, because I was getting very close. I called TruGreen corporate office, left a message with their answering service and never received a response. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone based on this experience alone. My lawn is not overgrown with weeds.

There are no problems, overall. I like the brand name, and they are dependable. They are punctual, responsive, and professional. The quality of work is excellent. I will continue to use this provider.

So far they have been really good. We've only had two applications but they seem to be getting the job done. They do what they say and they seem knowledgeable. They do our neighbor's yard and they are pleased. Everything seems to stay green. They do 7 applications for the grass and 5 applications for the trees and shrubs. It is $71 for the grass and $55 for the trees and shrubs.

I had used Truegreen years ago at a different residence and did not see great results, but I decided to give them another chance and signed up for one treatment for my lawn. This treatment worked as promised and killed the weeds while making the lawn greener. I was pleased with the results. I received a call from them to sign up for additional services. I agreed for three more treatments, and added lawn aeration and seeding to the order. In order to get a discount, I paid in advance for the services. Two days later they called and scheduled the aeration and seeding. We talked about how I have Bermuda grass in my front yard and decided on some modifications to the aeration and seeding plan to accomodate the Bermuda grass. They never showed on the date scheduled, or at any point over the next two weeks. I called Truegreen and the woman (Sandy) looked up my account. She told me they had cancelled the service because I had Bermuda grass and they didn't feel confident they could treat it properly. They never called me to tell me they cancelled the order. They never refunded the money. Had I not taken it upon myself to call them, I would still be waiting for a service they didn't intend to provide. Because I prepaid with a check, they told me it would be several weeks before I could get my money back. I am still waiting. Based on my two past experiences with Truegreen, I would recommend you stay far away from them. You may see some success from their product, but you have an equal chance to see no benefit or even have them to choose not to complete the order. Update: I spoke with Wesley Berger shortly after my initial post. He apologized that my order had been canceled with no notification to me and said the person who did that was no longer with the company. He explained it was cancelled because I have Bermuda grass in my front yard. He then told me that they can reschedule to aerate and seed my back yard only, and that the cost would be less since it is less area. I agreed to allow them to do this and we rescheduled for 10/10. Today is 10/11 and they never showed up. I just spoke with TrueGreen again and they said the aeration and seeding of the back yard had been cancelled. I asked to speak with Wesley Berger again and he apologized and told me he would talk to hi manager to see what they can do. I can't imagine anything they can do to keep my business short of sending someone out within the next couple of hours to aerate and seed my back lawn. As I write this update, I am waiting to see if they can make this right. I have not yet received a refund from the initial agreement, nor have I received the services promised.

I have been happy with this company. Trugreen was on time to the job and are reasonably priced. They have been very reliable and easy to work with. I would recommend using this company to anyone and will use them again in the future.
