Southern Moving

The guys were on time and very neat when they arrived. I found all of the crew to be very friendly and helpful, and they took extra time to make sure all of my furniture and newly painted walls were in tip top shape at the end.

I called Southern Movers about moving the contents of my home into storage. Randall, the owner, came out out and gave me a written estimate and some packing suggestions since I was packing everything myself. He also gave me an estimate on storage that turned out to be less expensive than my original plan. On the day of the move, I was assigned one point of contact, Patrick. Patrick and his crew ( 5 other guys) showed up on time. Everyone was very professional, polite and seemed to take good care of my stuff. They also had some boxes on hand so that I could pack my pictures. They finished in about two hours and even carried some furniture for my yard sale into the garage for me. Randall called me a few days later as a follow-up. I've moved several times in the last ten years and this was the best experience with a moving company I've ever had.

A crew of 4 buff men arrived on time on the day of the move. They were very conscientious in wrapping all the wood furniture with quilted pads and wrapped all of the upholstered furniture with plastic wrap. They had all of the furniture loaded on the truck by around 1:00 and drove 3 miles down the road to the new house where they finished unloading by 5 or 6:00. The only damage was to a 10 yr. old Weber gas grill whose frame was bent by a mover who carried it down the steps of the deck by himself. The mover was strong enough, but the frame was not designed to carry the weight of the grill in that fashion. He wasn't being wreckless, he just did not aspect that to happen. The owner, Randall York settled with us immediately by discounting an agreed upon price from the total of the moving bill. Randall, clearly displeased, talked to the guy who moved the grill over the phone.

VERY DISAPPOINTED! Based on the other feedback on Southern Moving, I had high hopes that things would go smoothly. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Randall gave me an estimate for the number of hours and men needed and assured me that it was more than likely going to be less than that estimate when all was said and done. I told him that I would need some wardrobe boxes and he said that I could coordinate those with his secretary. His secretary called me a few weeks later to confirm the move. I told her that we would need some wardrobe boxes. She said that they would deliver those a few days before the move. They never came. I had to call Randall the day before the move to find out where the boxes were. I left a message. He didn't call me until 10:00pm that night. The movers arrived on time and seemed to be having a good time among themselves. They were busy joking around and put my cherry dresser down very hard on the street which resulted in a large chunk of the leg getting broken off. When they moved my washer, they left large black marks all over the woodwork and walls from the rubber hose. They told me that those would wipe right off, not that they were going to clean them that was my job! When they were finally done loading and left, there were drink cups left on my mantle and the sidewalk out front. There were empty tape rolls all over the house. Cleaning up after the movers was not something I thought I would need to do. The last movers didn't leave until after 5:00 that afternoon (they had started at 8:00 that morning). The final bill was higher than the estimate, not less as Randall had assured me it would be. Two days later I stopped back at my town home to pick up some final item. There was water leak from my washer connection on the ceiling and wall of my living room! The movers had not closed the connection. I have had to follow up with Randall multiple times to get them to make the repairs to the drywall; that took almost three weeks. Now I am left with a section that I need to repaint, they won't do it. I am trying to sell my town home AND get settled in my new home. I don't need the extra work that they have created! The latest problem is trying to get my town home key back from the company that did the drywall work. I have sent Randall several emails and his response is that he will find out where the key is and get right back to me; he never does. I don't know if Randall has too much work and not enough resources, but he over promises and under delivers. I waited a while to post this report hoping that he would surprise me and follow through, but he hasn't.

We have used this company before and have gotten to know the owner. I like that they are a generational business that have a history. They are conscientious about their work and I feel that I can trust them.

They were very courteous. They loaded everything very quickly. They brought two trucks over to move everything. They got us out in the time line. They moved everything without breaking anything.

The team was prompt, thorough, and courteous on both ends. We had a delay in closing that set us back a few hours in Raleigh, while the movers sat and waited. Randall only charged us for 50% of the added time. The move was a very good experience for us.

It went well. They didn't help pack anything because everything was in a storage unit. The owner kept checking on his crew throughout the day and the owner himself came out to give us the estimate and we liked that.

They did a great job. They were very careful and the move went smoothly. They were prompt and showed up when they were supposed to. We paid exactly what they quoted us.

Job 1: Excellent; hard workers; not sketchy at all, clean cut big guys who move pretty quick considering the amount of lifting they have to do. Not surprised they rate so well here on the List; all the hype is true! I will use them to move my furniture in one month, too! Loaded an 1800 SF house (that I had packed and ready to load) in 1 hour and 15 minutes, unloaded it all in about 45 minutes into my new basement. Job 2: The owner was a bit difficult to contact and, it would seem, a bit flakey. We had a conversation about how much stuff I had, and he seemed to have forgotten about that. As a result, he sent two men when more were needed. On the other hand, once we called him about this, he trouble-shot the problem and arranged for a separate crew to unload the truck. So, all in all, I was not too annoyed. The guy isn't perfect, but he does great damage control instead of dropping the ball totally and leaving the customer out of luck. The actual guys sent were wonderful and worked like dogs. They treated me with great respect and my property. There are going to be dings and scuffs on property with any move, but so far (I am nearly unpacked) damages have been very minor, just a few light scratches on some stuff and a mysterious greasy mark. Likewise, I didn't worry about having these guys in my house seeing what I own. They were decent people and not shady.

The companies involved returned calls promptly. All were upfront about their pricing.

Randall met with my wife upon a moving quote request, and she was very impressed with his background, the history of his company and the fact that he maintains all full-time employees with no seasonal help. Randall came to our residence twice prior to the move to deliver boxes and packing materials that were needed in order to pack all of the items in our apartment. We were only charged for the boxes and items that we did use, therefore we did not have to pay for anything more than we needed, as the movers collected any unused items. On moving day, a five person team showed up right on time. Each person introduced themselves to my wife and me and were very courteous and professional in all of their interactions with us. Upon arriving at our new house, the team was very careful to lay down padding at our front entrance, and even wrapped our stair rail with furniture pads to prevent damaging it in any way. The team even laid furniture pads across a section of our driveway where there was mud from a recent rainstorm so that no dirt would be tracked into our new house. The team worked very diligently and efficiently throughout the entire moving process, and even willingly moved some items between floors in our new house as my wife and I changed our minds about where we wanted certain large furniture items to go after they had already placed them. We bought the team lunch and provided them with bottled water, and each one of them expressed their appreciation multiple times. The team completed the move without damaging any of our furniture, the walls or floors of our new home.

I CONTRACTED WITH RANDALL TO MOVE MY MOTHER'S FURNITURE FROM HER CONDO TO HER NEW HOUSE. WE HAD MOVED THE SMALLER FURNITURE & PACKED & MOVED THE BOXES. THE ONLY ITEMS LEFT WERE THE LARGER PIECES OF FURNITURE. RANDALL CAME OUT TO GIVE US AN ESTIMATE & WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE MOVING BUSINESS. WE SET UP A TIME FOR THE MOVE A WEEK LATER. DUE TO A MISCOMMUNICATION THE MOVERS DID NOT ARRIVE AT THE TIME STATED, BUT THEY WORKED VERY HARD AND MADE UP FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. PATRICK, THE MANAGER, TOLD US EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO. THEY WRAPPED EACH PIECE OF FURNITURE WITH MATS BEFORE LOADING. THE UNLOADING WAS JUST AS UNEVENTFUL. PATRICK EVEN MOVED SEVERAL PIECES OF FURNITURE TO THE SPOT THAT MY MOTHER LIKED. ALL OF THE CREW WERE VERY COURTEOUS AND HANDLED THE FURNITURE WITH CARE. MY MOTHER WAS VERY SATISFIED WITH THE FURNITURE PLACEMENT AND THE WAY EVERYTHING WAS HANDLED. IF WE EVER HAVE TO MOVE AGAIN, WE WILL DEFINITELY CALL SOUTHERN MOVING.

The crew of four arrived exactly on time, loaded quickly and delivered without a knick on anything. They completed the job in much less time than they anticipated. They were extremely efficient, friendly and courteous. They wouldn't let us move a thing...even to get something out of their way. This is the third or fourth time I've used Southern Moving and each time has been a wonderful experience. I've moved many times and, without a doubt, Southern Moving is the best I've ever used. I would not use another. Randall York, the owner, takes personal pride in his business and it shows!!!!

Initial scheduling with Randall took some time, I had waited until very close to my move date and Randall had to scramble a bit to get me booked. We played some phone tag during this period and I got the feeling Randall was quite busy, but he did get back to me in the promised time frame. He was able to schedule a half day for what equated to approximately 4 rooms and one storage area (garage) of furniture (2 br, 1 lr, 1 office, garage.) Not just one but 4(!) movers showed on the date of my move, not only on time, but slightly early. They were quick, professional, taped and padded everything, and were pretty funny as well. They took instruction of delivery rooms quickly and I felt like these guys really knew what they were doing. Total time was about 4 hours total, right at the half day Randall had quoted. Randall followed up with a call later to ensure everything went well.

Randall and his crew were skilled, professional, and very polite, while at the same time being a lot of fun to work with. I would highly recommend these folks!

Randall York was one of many companies that I spoke with regarding moving. He was very personable and a pleasure to speak with. He gave me lots of great tips. He even encouraged me to join Angie's List to read about his history. He offered a discount equal to the cost of our AL membership. He met with my husband prior to the move to look at our storage units. He was very flexible with me when our closing got delayed. On the morning of the move, the movers showed up a little early. Although we had been expecting 2 trucks there was only 1. Therefore the move took a little longer than expected. This may have been due to our date being pushed back at the last moment. We were compensated slightly for the overage. However, the movers did a really great job! They were very professional and took great care with our things. They made sure to point out any scratches or damage due to other movers. They helped my husband put some of the furniture together. This was a very pleasant experience!

Randall was very personable and professional when he came to give us an estimate. On the day of the move, his crew was on time and very efficient. They moved all of our things with nothing scratched or broken. Patrick, the head of the crew, walked us through the house when everything was in and moved furniture to fit as necessary. They finished in much less time than expected and came in under the estimated price. We would use them again and recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat!

The service was excellent. They were very good at getting back to me when I first call, we kept in touch and they adapted to my schedule really well. They did an excellent job.

Movers were professional and courteous. Pricing was very fair. Easy folks to work with.

His employees were very friendly, professional and courteous. They did an excellent job of moving the furniture without any damage to the furniture itself or the home. Would definitely recommend this company.

Randall showed up on time to give an estimate. I went with them even though they were a hundred dollars higher than another estimate because of their guarantee not to exceed the quote. Workers (5) showed up on time and there were enough of them to do the job right. No furniture was damaged as they were very careful. After they moved the heavy stuff, I paid them to unload the pod at the house and still came in under budget!!

I have used them before. Very professional and courteous.

They guys showed up on time, were courteous and hard-working and did a fantastic job. The final charge ended up being much less than the estimate. We were thrilled with the entire experience.
