It was very well. They were prompt, and met all their commitments. I am totally satisfied. This folks were not THE cheapest quote, but they were competitive, and I was comfortable with them My house has a lot of landscaping around it and they did not do any damage to the planting materials.

The crew completed most of the work in one day. And even went beyond the scope of the original job when more plywood than anticipated needed to be replaced. We were very pleased with the roofing job. We did find that it was sometimes difficult to get a response to inquiries on when the work was going to be performed, and when some necessary follow up work would occur. They may have had some staff turnover about that time that led to some communication lapses. I believe those have been fixed since. I would use their services again and would recommend them to others.

SHS was selected over others because of the attention to detail in advance of signing the contract. All the logistics were worked out in advance, down to the detail of where the dumpster would be placed and for how long. There were no surprises with the installation. (Major surprises showed up days later when HardiePlank proved to be not as good as advertised.) Project started when said and took exactly the time expected (minus the brutal weather delays). When the product turned out to have serious issues, agreed to stick with me while appealing through the vendor. The crew was excellent. Very respectful of arranging work sequences to reduce interruptions. Worked around keeping gates closed for dogs. Each day the work site was cleaned. When the job was done, nothing unexpected was left behind.

The SHS team did an excellent job replacing the siding on our home and the rear entry door. They were efficient, professional and courteous. They paid good attention to detail and cleaned up the site at the end of each day. The house looks wonderful now and we expect the high quality Hardie Plank siding to last many years.

The work was fantastic, we had no problems at all. They did everything exactly the way they said they were going to do, and when we did have any glitches or questions, they were there right away. We are completely satisfied with every step of the process and the outcome. We have recommended them to a lot of people.

Shawn's crew did an excellent job installing the new windows. Shawn was great to work with because he knew we were trying to get the windows in before the end of the year for the tax deduction. From what I hear around town, he is the best in the business. Very professional and his crew did a very quick installation of 17 windows in one day. Love the product too. I would highly recommend him.

Excellent! Shawn Kalgren and his team were very honest and professional throughout the project from the first visit to final walk through. The quality of the work was excellent as well with all work done on time and budget. They also addressed our concerns about our satellite dish on the roof and took care to keep the signal strength strong. They exceeded all our expectations! They were the best contractor we have ever used and we will be sure to work with them again.

I signed the contract with SHS and I was completely pleased with the process and the results. Shawn and his crew were professional, detail-oriented, and left the worksite completely clean each evening over the three weeks the project lasted. Not only did they replace the siding, but they replaced all of the window trim on the 20 windows of my home, fascia board, and gutters. I was so impressed with the turn-key operation that I asked Shawn to quote the mailbox kiosks for our Homeowner's Association, which he did. I never felt like I was being treated differently because I was a woman and both Shawn and his crew took the time to explain any issues they encountered and provided me with a variety of options. Because I was the first person in my neighborhood to undergo the siding replacement process, I wanted to make sure I selected a conscientious contractor. Shawn and his crew exceeded my expectations, and I am enjoying my "new" home without moving.

We contacted SHS for a small roof leak on Friday, and Shawn came out the following Monday. He was prompt, found the issue within minutes of being on the roof, and fixed the leak same day. Small things count too: We had to unlock the fence gate to allow Shawn access to the back of the house. Sometime later we realized that we had forgotten to re-lock the gate only to find that he had actually locked it for us before he left. We have used SHS before, and have been incredibly pleased each time with their promptness, professionalism and knowledge of the business. I know that when we replace the roof in the next couple of years, we will be calling on SHS. Thank you Shawn!

Rob contacted me promptly after I made an initial call to get an estimate. He came out when he said he would. He was courteous and gave me some additional details on what to look for. He gave me a written estimate back the next couple of days which was fine. I contacted him to begin the repairs. He said it would be a couple of weeks and he would call me approximately a week before he wanted to do the house. He did contact me. However, I did not get a chance to see the sample shingles that we were supposed to choose. Minor issue, he had forgot to drop them off for approval. The crew arrived on site a little late. they were finishing up another project and they went right to work. We had an issue where the air conditioner stopped working after a couple of hours being on site. They covered the air conditioner outside with a box to make sure nails don't go down into the air conditioner and damage it which was customary for them. I contacted Rob right away and they had someone out that same day to look at my air conditioner and it was late in the afternoon when this occurred. According to the HVAC technician, the air conditioner should not have been covered the way they did due to a newer type. The air conditioner shut down so it would not overheat . The air conditioner guy brought it back online and made sure it was working properly. I had a couple of minor complaints after the work was done: 1. they did not clean up like they should. The gutters were dirty and there were still nails and roofing materials in them. when it rained most of the nails washed out of the gutter and specs of roofing. I thought something was wrong. He happened to come out and inspect the room with me and that is what was found. it took a couple of rains to totally clean the gutters out. 2. They broke the satellite dish when they placed it back on my roof. I had to contact Direct tv to come out and replace it. they did not let me know they broke it.

We contracted with SHS to repair missing/damaged flashing/shingle on a high part of our roof line and to repair a small hole in the siding of our home on our back deck. After an initial appointment no-show, the contractors came and made the repair on the roof while we were out of town with no notification to us at all. The only way we suspected they had been there was because they left behind one of their tools on our driveway and my husband called them. He also notified them that they did not complete the work on the siding. They then emailed us a bill for the full amount of all the work. My husband contacted them again about completing the work and made an appointment. Guess what...another no show. Called one more time and were told WE wrote down the wrong day and that it was scheduled for the next day. Next day rolls around....and no surprise....another no show. At this point they have now mailed us a bill for the full amount of the work done and we are just subtracting $50 for the work not performed and paying for the rest. We are done with this contractor. This is very surprising for an Angie's List contractor. We are usually so happy with your recommendations.

This guy was excellent. They did a exactly what they said they would do and replaced other damages they found. When they were done, it was done it was very professional operation. These guys were great.

Southern Home Services re-roofed our house in early June of 2013. This was right before the extremely rainy spring/summer that we had in Charlotte this year. We had a hail damaged roof on a 17 year old 6000 square foot house which was replaced under insurance. We solicited four bids for the replacement job. Both the buying experience and the execution from SHS were outstanding. Shawn Kalgren was very prompt in providing the estimates and worked with the insurance adjuster. I particularly liked that he was able to give us a professional – and printed – estimate prior to leaving the property, and was able to provide the contract to me electronically which sped up the process since I travel frequently. Shawn offered a range of roofing options in both shingles and underlayment. We selected GAF Timberline HD in Hickory color with Rhinoroof synthetic underlayment. Since this was a color change to our roof, we had to request approval from our community’s architectural control committee. Shawn provided additional information for us to gain this approval. SHS also replaced 2 power attic fans, vent pipe boots, flashing, and replaced several areas of rotted fascia and roof panels. The entire job took about 2-1/2 days and was managed by Robert Drumm. SHS does not use pneumatic or electric nail guns, rather relying on the roofers to nail the shingles by hand which takes longer. Because of the design of our house, 2 floors on the front, 3 floors on side and the rear, and with the landscaping, there is limited access to the roof. SHS covered the lawn and landscaping with tarps to minimize any damage to these areas. For the most part, the roofing crew respected our direction to not use ladders or walk in the landscaped areas up against the house. Literally on the last day, just as the crew completed the work it started to rain, and proceeded to rain almost every day for about 45 days. Roof replacement is a messy job, and Robert ensured that the site was left clean each day and was particularly mindful of keeping nails out of our driveways and parking areas. We did have a couple of very minor issues – none of which involved leaks – which Robert was very prompt with addressing to our satisfaction. As of mid-September, we have experienced no leaks in the roof and it looks great. Overall we are very pleased with the outcome and would recommend SHS.

It was just much more professional experience all the way around, their field representative was professional versus the people from Dula. They gave me a much more extensive item per item quote, they did tell me they had several jobs ahead of mine and the start would be paid which that worked out fine. They worked well with the insurance adjuster and that was another thing that Dula told me, they would definitely make sure that the insurance adjuster would go along with what they said. With Southern Home Services, everything is great as far as the workmanship and the time frame that all worked out well. They are marginally higher but at least I knew the prices for each particular item, they do list on a kind of a lump everything together and I believe it was Sean Calcren went with our insurance adjuster or the insurance client person and they just worked marvelously together. The work was actually done in January, they came last November or December.

3 and 1/2 weeks later and we still don't even have a quote. He was professional while he was here, showed up on time, showed me a book with credentials and 20+ pages of references (albeit none from the last 2 years). We were ready to hire but I guess our job wasn't big enough to be worth the time/effort of the quote. Updated- the company contacted me and the quote went to the wrong email address. We did hire the company. Work was performed as expected. They did a good job. No complaints. We would hire again.

Very well. Clean was thorough. House was heavily landscaped, and there was no damage to any plantings. Expectations were set, and met.

The crew was punctual, very concerned about keeping our yard and work area very clean. They took extra care to reduce wear on the yard and shrubs. Their work was excellent. We are very satisfied. Jason did a great job with the stamped concrete. Cory did an outstanding job with the stone work on the front of our house. I highly recommend this company.

Came on 07/17/13 and performed repairs. The only reason I gave a B rating on price, quality and responsiveness is because the caulk around frames is STILL damp more than 3 weeks later. I have sent several emails to get issue looked at but no one has come to look at it.

Project started on time - products delivered timely, crew was on time - even a bit early & worked a very full day. Project completed on time. Great clean up daily. I am very pleased.

We were experiencing a leak and called SHS for repair service. The sales person came out the next day and immediately located the problem area. The repair was scheduled for a week later but they had an earlier opening and were able to come out, repair the roof situation, and clean up within two days. The leak stopped and all was well. They were quick efficient and effective.

I have all particle board type siding at the back of the house that is rotting and needs replacement. We wanted to replace it with James hardi siding and sought 3 different quotes. His bid was very competitive, but after much consideration we went with another company.

All appointments were kept in a timely manner, the job was completed as projected.
