 + -1 moreFixed a leak in the roof above my bathroom. We had three other roofers out who charged less. Each tried to fix it and failed. Finally we went with SHS who had given us a higher price. THey came out EXACTLY when they said they would, fixed the problem and then left. The place was clean and the fix stayed. Notably their larger estimate for redoing the entire roof was the lowest.
Description of Work: I had a leak in the bathroom which three other roofers had been unable to fix. SHS came out and fixed the roof and gave us an estimate for replacing the entire roof.

 + -1 moreAnother great job by SHS!! We were unfortunate to have a poplar tree come through the roof. SHS has completed many projects for us, so I called Shawn that evening and his crew showed up the next morning with a tarp to cover the hole. After settling with insurance weeks later, the SHS crew returned to replace and repair the damaged roof. Again, I was more than satisfied with the work. The roof is beautiful and I knew I was in good hands through the entire process. They've never let me down and this time was no exception!

 + 0 moreOverall a great job. Nice looking and functionally correct. A roofing nail in our drivewaqy punctured and deflated a visiting friend's tire, and Shawn sent a check to replace the tire within 10 days. We did have one call about a leak around a sky light. SHS came and inspected, then recaulked the skylight. They said it should have been done by the skylight installer but were happy to do it for us since SHlS recommended the installer. Great group of people to work with. Robert installs confidence and follows through. Shawn is about as nice a person as we've met in planning, following through, and finishing up with a job. NOTE: My wife would not be happy if I did not mention that leaves gather above the gutters in the fall. Myself, I find that the wind blows most off during the winter.
Description of Work: SHS removed all the shingles on our garage and house, replaced shingles with 30 year architectural shingles. They also removed all the gutters and downspouts and replaced these with "covered" (leaf proof) guttern on the garage and house when the shingles had been finished. It was a first rate job, and they kept us informed day-to-day about how the job was going. They also scheduled around the crew that was repainting our house, so the guttern and down spouts got installed after the underskin had been repainted.

 + 2 moreShawn was one of 5 quotes we had on a large job were were doing on our house (siding, deck, some windows, porch, and gutters). He was very prompt in coming out to give us a quote and discussing with us what we were looking for. Gave us detailed and broken out quote. We selected Shawn for our siding, windows, porch and gutters (we selected a cheaper alternative for the deck). He was also very patient with us as we took forever to deciede on exactly what we wanted. When the work began, we gave Shawn the money for materials up front. Work went very smoothly. We had one issue come up (we didn't like the way something looked) so we came up with a plan to correct that. The construction foreman was very easy to talk with and asked us each day to walk the house and see if we saw anything we had questions about and if we found something, leave a note or call Shawn and let him know. Overall the project took about one week to complete (started and finished when they said they would). The job came out great and we have been very happy with the finished project. I would most definately recommend Shawn and Southern Home Services to anyone. Super nice guy, easy to work with, prompt, reasonably priced, and does quality work. Can't ask for anything more!

 + -1 moreShawn arrived on time to inspect the roof for hail damage. He was extremely amiable and knowledgeable. He provided us with product samples, explained how the work would be done, and provided a written estimate. We scheduled the work and the crew arrived promptly on that day. They worked quietly (no radios blaring or shouting). The job site was left clean and all work was completed in one day. The job inspector, Rob, arrived the next day (in the middle of a downpour!) to review the work with us to make sure we were satisfied. He was apologetic for a shrub branch being broken and small amount of caulk accidentally smeared on the garage door. We gave him a check for the initial amount sent from the insurance company. They accepted the balance when we received the insurance holdback check two weeks later. The Angie's list coupon was an extra bonus. It was a pleasant experience and I would highly recommend SHS!

They installed the shutters at a later date and they look great. Their pricing was below other 3 quotes we received.

 + -1 moreAfter a couple short delays due to weather, the crew arrived promptly and immediately went to work removing the old roof. They worked together like clockwork, starting at 7 am and completely finished by 3 pm. The noise was not objectionable, especially since the work was done without pneumatic hammers. There was very little inconvenience caused by their work. We were amazed at the speed and quality of the workmanship. In addition, there was not so much as a nail or shingle left behind, as the cleanup crew picked up every bit of debris. We chose SHS on the basis of other good reports on Angie's list and we are pleased that we did. We may not need another roof for 30 years, but if we ever do, SHS will be the ones we call. Thanks to all of the SHS team and managers like Shawn and Rob.

 + -1 moreLightning hit our garage and damaged it. Our insurance company cut us a check for the damage. We called SHS and someone was sent out to look at the damage. They assisted my wife in picking out a color and set a date to install the roof. Everything went well. They even allowed us to put a few things in the dumpster we needed to take to the dump. I would use them again.

Were able to start work within a few days of accepting the estimate. Worked fast, cleaned up site--except for the new siding being up, wouldn't have known they were there. Very happy with the work. We communicated easily via telephone and email and coordinated our schedules to mutual agreement easily. The work flow was communicated clearly and conducted just as promised. The installation team was professional, pleasant, and cleaned up the area thoroughly before leaving. The entire process was easy and met all of our expectations. Shawn provided superior customer service and so did the installation team. We would not hesitate to hire them again.
Description of Work: The original siding to our storage room was removed, hauled away, and replaced with Hardie board siding. The team removed our gutters and lighting in order to side the walls, then replaced everything carefully. They also replaced both doors and casings.

He came to our house for an estimate, and then he came a second time to meet with us for a follow up conversation to make sure we understood everything about the product and the process. We had no experience with roofs and trusting someone to do a high quality job, which is expensive, can be a daunting task. Throughout our initial discussions we found Shawn very professional and patient and also very knowledgeable about the subject. His team replaced the roof in less than a week. Throughout the roof replacement, project management and communication was great. In fact, it was a great experience from start to finish. The roof looks great and everything was cleaned up after the roof installation as well. We would definitely recommend Shawn and his team.

Shawn, the owner, personally came to my home to provide an estimate, and when he saw it, he simply put the piece of siding back in place and secured it to the house absolutely free of charge. I couldn't believe it when he told me that it was fixed and there was no charge. I absolutely guarantee that this company has my business for life!

Shawn was very patient with me, as I changed shingle colors, and he even visited houses in my neighborhood to see what I liked and didn't like. He also recommended lead pipe collars due to the heat on my roof. The workmanship was excellent, including not only the shingles, but the flashing and ridge vents.
