Contacted Southern Homes to provide an estimate for a roofing replacement, and while they were very responsive in setting up the initial appointment and arrived on time, I never received a quote back from them or any other communication. Considering I had filled out an online form I know they had my email and phone number, but as I had received some competitive quotes from other companies I made the decision not to go out of my way to work with them. Not sure what may have happened, but hard to recommend them from my experience.

They were fast and did quality work. I was assigned a person who walked me through the entire process, was available for questions and responded quickly and thoroughly, and he contacted me after the roof was installed to make sure I didnt have any questions or issues. The pricing was transparent and no surprise fees - I paid what was quoted. The only issue experienced, was they left some equipment behind and a small stack of shingles in my driveway. They returned for the equipment, but left the shingles. Minor issue, so it would not preclude me from working with them again and recommending them to others.

Excellent. Initially met with Project Manager, on site PM and owner. Reviewed activities planned and activities to happen. No significant issues encountered during the installation. We ran into 1 issue on pre-fabbed headers but SHS was able to come up with a solution that actually turned out great and was an unexpected improvement. Two changes were required but they were expected. Very pleased with the professionalism of the team and the work that they did. It took about nine days to complete the project which was a fairly significant overhaul, given the amount of damage and work needed. The first two days focused on the windows being installed, followed by a couple of days of removing siding and adding hardiwrap and installing trim around the windows. Once that was completed, 3 teams of 2 started installing the siding which went very well.

Excellent. Only issue I would say, is it took that about a week longer than all the other roofers I contacted to get back to me. Although once the line of communication was opened they were great and responded very quickly! Thank you for the simple process.

The estimate went well. We scheduled the repair for Wednesday 4/17 and I was told I would get a call the day before confirming the arrival window. I never did receive a call; I waited until 10AM on the day of the appointment and decided to call the office. I was told I was on the schedule between the hours of 9AM and 12PM. When 1PM came; I called the gentleman that was supposed to be doing the work and he then told me he had to reschedule. We rescheduled for Friday 4/19 and I was again told I would receive a call the day prior. I didn't receive a call. On the day of the service I received an e-mail around 10 AM saying he was on another job and trying to get to my house. He showed up at 4PM. Unacceptable. I took two days off of work to accommodate this schedule. .

I found them on Angie's List. They were reasonable. They also worked with my insurance agencies and negotiated a price because it didn't come out of money directly. Two of them got into a very able price. They went above & beyond. I had a couple of bushes that were damaged because of the shingles falling on them. Even though they had covered a lot of stuff, they reimbursed me to replace some bushes and they came out a couple of times to fix screens that were torn when shingles got off the roof. A few months later I called them & I said here's one that I missed and they still came out 5-6 months later to repair it. One of those times they repaired a piece of vinyl for me that was not storm related and they fixed it for me for a few of charge. I appreciated them a whole lot. When the house was originally built, there was a section in the roof that the design makes it tricky to keep it dry. I had roofers work on that spot for years. They came in & they were very aggressive in getting that spot fixed and it has not leaked since. The house is 14 years old and I am very pleased with them.

Shawn was very consultative, pointing out my options, and the pros and cons of each. Once we had worked out the details, I asked Shawn how much money he needed to give me a slot on his schedule. His response? $1,000. Not 20%, not 50%, but $1,000. That spoke volumes about his work ethic and pride in his product. Shawn gave me an estimated start date, which was about 4 weeks after we initially met. He contacted me a week prior to the begin date to confirm that we were still on schedule. On Day 1, Shawn arrived with his crew. Herbert, the foreman, was a pleasure to work with. His crew arrived on time, each day and every day, and they cleaned up at the end of each day - no debris, all materials were put away. I was very impressed. I never saw a Port-a-Potty, either - which was important to me - and a pleasant surprise. The quality of their work is exceptional. Shawn and I spoke frequently throughout the project, and he always - ALWAYS - called me back the same day. Despite some delays due to bad weather, they finished on time. So far I have not found one single nail, any debris, or any other indication that my house was a construction zone for 3 weeks. I love my new siding, trim, and gutters, and I am thrilled to put my paint brush away...forever. I would recommend SHS without hesitation. I have a very low tolerance for chaos and mayhem, and this was a non-event to me. Just great quality, great people, and a great experience.

If you notice, I've spent $0 with Southern Home Service and this is the reason I am writing this review. I was referred to Shawn by my insurance agent to look at my roof for hail/wind damage after I had a strange leak. After having another company come out that stated that I "needed a new roof" with no real supporting evidence or conversation, Shawn came out and actually negated that opinion and discussed why he felt so. Contrary to the previous company, I have a handful of years left on my current roof and there was no immediate work needed. Realize, that Southern Home Service is in the business to put roofs on and/or make repairs but did not try to do so just to make a quick buck. For this reason, I will be calling Shawn back when I DO have a need and recommend everyone reaching out to him to deal with someone who is honest which is refreshing.

.We have been very pleased with SHS. In January 2012, Shawn and his team replaced our roof. They were on time, completed the job in one day, and left no evidence that they were even onsite. The price was very reasonable. Fast forward to March 2013 - we are considering buying another house. During the home inspection, the inspector noticed a cracked shingle and gap and recommended to have it checked out. On short notice, Shawn went out to the property and gave his professional evaluation. Nothing major, just some minor odds and ends -- work that would only cost approx $300. Most surprisingly, as a previoius customer, Shawn performed the evalution for FREE. (compared to almost $200 at other places I called). If we successfully close on this house, my first call will be to Shawn. Cannot recommend him enough

I can not say enough about Shawn and his crew. From meeting and discussing the projects to the quality and services provided. His crew is exceptional in workmanship, work ethics and pride in their job. I had joked with Shawn saying his reviews sound like he write them himself but I am here to say add me the very happy list. They were very professional, provided estimates and completed the job in record time. We are planning on using SHS-southern Home Service LLC for fome wood work needed on the front door of our house. We know they will do a good job.

Service was professional from the initial phone call to the completion of the work. Photos of the work required were provided with the initial estimate. Our roof is 10+ years old and SHS only quoted for general repairs and didn't try to push for a whole new roof. Repairs were completed within a week and photos provided for the repairs.

Shawn Kalgren came out to the house on very short notice to provide us with an estimate for the siding repair and a new roof. Because he has significant experience in the siding business, he was able to point out some additional sections that would likely need to be replaced and also offered suggestions for some of the trim repair in lieu of what I was already considering. Shawn is extremely professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. He answered a lot of questions and was very responsive when I had additional questions that I sent him by email. In fact, going back and forth via email was a very productive way to communicate and to get the scope written. Shawn brought some large shingle samples out to the house to help us decide on color, and also provided addresses of several homes in the area of the colors we were considering. He worked with us to schedule a start date and the crew showed up exactly when he said they would. Shawn was here to explain the job to them and stayed on site until they were underway. He checked back several times during the day to make sure things were going well. The crew was extremely efficient and professional. They did an outstanding job getting the old roof off, disposing of everything, and getting the new roof installed. They did an excellent job cleaning up. We only found a couple of nails and a few scraps in the yard. We had secured three estimates for the job from top Angie's List roofers and SHS was not the most nor the least expensive. They were easy to work with, did a great job, and we would gladly recommend them to anyone considering a new roof or siding replacement.

INCREDIBLE FROM START TO FINISH. Don't skip checking with Shawn should you find yourself in the unpleasant position of having to re-roof your home. Shawn and the entire SHS team was pleasant and professional; arrived when they said they would, completed the work quickly and cleaned up when finished. We noticed a leak on the ceiling of the family room and called in a number of contractors to look over the damage. Ultimately, our insurance company decided that the entire roof would need to be replaced and given that we were going to simultaneously do some exterior repainting, and replace all of the gutters, we were looking for someone who would essentially oversee the scheduling of all the contractors. While this wasn't Shawn's problem, he took care of all the various aspects of the project, working with other great contractors with whom he has a relationship. All in all, he was responsible for making this a successful project. While I never hope to have to use his services for a new roof again, I wouldn't hesitate to call him first.

The work turned out pretty good. We were very happy. They were very professional and cleaned up nice.

I bought my house new 24 years ago and have had to replace the three roof dormers twice because of leaking and rotting of the wood. The last replacement was only four years ago. Four years ago when I had the dormers replaced, I was assured that they would last for 30 years but was given only a 2 year warranty on workmanship. The price seemed right and I regrettably agreed to have the work done. I was determined this time to find a more long lasting solution to the problem. I started by researching the materials and decided that I wanted James Hardie siding products used. I checked Angies List and found very good recommendations for Southern Home Services. Southern Home Services is also one of only three preferred installers of James Hardie products by James Hardie in Charlotte. I called Shawn at SHS and he came out to look at the project and he diagnosed the problem and described what he would do to give me a long term fix. We also discussed at length the correct amount of reveal the siding should have to look proportionate to the size of the dormers and decided that the normal 8in reveal should be cut down to a 5in reveal. This sounds like no big deal but made a huge difference to the looks of the final job. Shawn sent me a detailed quote the following day and included a ten year workmanship warranty. The $3500 price tag was just short of twice what I had paid 4 years ago but Shawn had impressed me with his knowledge, experience, and attention to detail and I accepted the offer. Shawn dropped off color samples that same day. The following week Shawn arrived with his two installers, Kelly and Richard, and began the project. I was very impressed width Kelly and Richards' workmanship and it was evident that they took pride in doing a good job. At one point, Kelly pointed out that he had made a mistake lining up the siding reveal on the side vs the front and said he would make the corrections to make it even. I could not tell a difference from the ground and told Kelly that it looked alright to me, but he said it was not right and insisted on changing it. The project took 4 days and Shawn checked in on site daily. After seeing the work that went into the job, I thought the $3500 price was a good value. At the end of the project, I had dormers that looked better than when the house was new. The process was perfect...great communication, follow thru of time lines, and I could not be happier with the results.

After a particularly bad storm where the wind was blowing the rain sideways, I noticed a stain on my dining room ceiling. SHS came out to look and could not find the leak so they came out again with a team to look further. They installed some additional flashing but could not say with 100% certainty they had fixed the problem and therefore could not warrant the work so they did not charge me a thing! I have never heard of such service! I can't recall the exact date they were out but it has rained since and the stain has not spread. :-)

Shawn returned my call promptly and we set up an appointment for the same week. He called on his way and arrived at the scheduled time. He examined the dormer siding and the surrounding roof. He took detailed pictures which he used to explain what he saw on the dormer and the roof. After looking at the pictures, we determined that flashing on the roof had been installed over the shingles instead of under the singles and that the caulking on the flashing was failing. This is what is causing the leak in the ceiling below this section of the roof. My neighbor owns a roofing company and I said I would contact him for the repair. Shawn was very professional, showed by his contractor and insurance certifications (without my asking) and ultimately there was no charge for his time. Very good experience.

The sales guy was extremely professional, punctual and quickly answered any questions. He showed up with the team to start the job that morning and gave me his cell phone if I had any questions or concerns while the work was in progress. The team of workers (probably about 10 guys) had the old roof ripped off, new roof installed, and the attic insulated by about 1pm. I couldn't be happier with the job.

After 2 leaks, we thought we needed a new roof. Rob, of SHS, told us the roof was fine for approximately 2 more years, it was the collars around the vents that were leaking. His crew fixed 5 collars in about 30 minutes. Hopefully, no more leaks and we have put off getting a new roof for about 2 years.

They were responsive, did a quality job and their price was reasonable.
