Description of Work: I scheduled a free inspection/estimate for a roof replacement. Every home around me has had their roof replaced due to hail damage so we decided we should have it inspected. Val was very helpful in scheduling the appt. Robert showed at the agreed upon time. He was professional and polite. And the best part - he told me I had no hail damage and that my 10 year old roof was in good shape. Southern Home Services is definitely bookmarked for future needs.

Description of Work: Shawn from SHS came to investigate and give an estimate for a slow roof leak. He showed me a couple of possibilities for the slow roof leak, showed me and offered to caulk them. He let me know to keep an eye on the roof as the caulking may hold but could need more over time. He stated that I may have a few more years left on the roof and hopefully i won't have any furhter issues. What surprised me even more was that he did not charge for the estimate or the caulking. Description of Work: On July 7th, 2011 I contacted Shawn at SHS because they appear to be one of the highest rated/recommended roofing contractors on Angie's List. He came out on July 14 and gave us a quote which was very resonable and stated that they were about 3 weeks out and would let me know when they could get us on their schedule. From there, the responsiveness seemed to be lacking. It was never a same day resonse via email, and I contacted them 2 more times (once on July 28 and again on August 11) just to inquire as to whether or not they had a date scheduled to do the work. They did not however, have any problem cashing my 50% down deposit check in a timely manner (July 27) After my inquiry on Thursday, August 11, I got a phone call from Shawn saying they wanted to come out Friday, the very next day...that there had been a change in the forecast which was previously calling for rain, and were looking for a little job (half day)to do which was fine, except I wanted to be able to come home during lunch or take a half day off while the work was being done and with less than 24 hour notice, that proved to be impossible. Luckily, my husband speaks fluent Spanish and was able to communicate with the crew. They explained to him that the shingles looked "popped up" around the skylight because it had begun to rain and the tar was cold and after a few days of the sun beating on them, they would flatten out. Sounded reasonable so I let it go a few days before Rob called back to check on the work. I explained to him that the shingles around the skylight still looked bad and that maybe my expectations were too high, but that it looked just like the old roof only lighter because the shingles were clean. He came out and looked over the roof and said he'd send the crew back out that same week to paint the flashing around the skylight and rehang the front gutter at no additional charge which I'd have been happy to pay for in exchange for NOT having to email yet again to tell Shawn that another week had gone by and no crew had shown up. He got someone out that same day, but honestly aside from tacking down the shingles around the skylight, it still looked, how do I put it..."not new" We are trying to sell our townhome and I could have worked out additional payment for additional services in order to get the new look we wanted, but after asking about replacing the gutter since our old one still looked bad, I was told the gutter guy was 2 weeks out. Maybe it's good for them that they are so busy, but so are the rest of us and I just felt like I was constantly chasing them down instead of them proactively contacting me for things other than payment. To the crew's credit, they did move all the patio furniture and put it back and cleaned up very well around the ground area, but when it was all over, it just felt like a hassle. There are alot of other highly rated contractors on Angie's List and I'd probably contact someone else in the future.

Description of Work: Replaced all of the siding on my chimney. Removed all of the cedar and treated siding and replaced it with wonderboard due to damage from water and woodpeckers. Professional work and follow-up. Only delay was weather related and that was not the fault of the contractor. Crew was very professional.

Description of Work: In mid-July 2006 Shaun Kalgren's company did two jobs on a rental property, a new roof and new gutters. They did an excellent job and I have absolutely zero complaints.

Description of Work: I had a leak in my roof. I called several companies, and he was the only one willing to come out within 24 hours. He climbed up on my very steep roof, and found that the leak I had was just a fluke from a very windy, gusty rain under the vent. He recommended that I just keep an eye on it, and if it happened again to call him back out. He did not recommend work that I didn't really need, and I never would have known the difference. He was right, it has been several weeks, with several rain storms, and no further leaks. To top it all off, he didn't even charge me anything for the visit! I would definitely call on him again!
