When one of my existing heat pumps required repair I decided to replace the 12 year old unit with another model to take advantage of increased efficiency. R&W sold and serviced the cutting edge product I was interested in getting, They provided a good warranty and a reasonable price. Installation went smoothly. I am pleased with the service so far. I believe they have the professional expertise and the professionalism to provide several options, answer questions and help in choosing the best option without pressure or bias. I have entrusted them with the maintenance of all of my heat pump units. Highly recommended.

shelled out over $14k for a completely new ventilation system and hvac unit. it took them about a week to complete which wasnt really the problem...the problem is that they didnt do a bunch of things correctly and it failed inspection before it even started. didnt hear from them until later the following day after inspection and they didnt even know they failed (eventhough inspector sent them a report). they were even here the day before inspection bc they had wires exposed from unit to our main electrical box!!! then once we got them on the phone to talk about their failures, they scheduled us for 8am the next day. 815am comes and they call and say they are going to be an hour late!!! still waiting for technician but do not have high hopes about us passing inspection again since they had two tries and failed already and are now late for their 3rd try. extremely dissatisfied!

Ross + Witmer did a terrific job. Replacing ductwork requires going without HVAC during the project, which they were very sensitive about considering our having the job done in November. We spotted a decent temperature forecast and began the job right away. Ross + Witmer has done other jobs for us - insulating our attic and second floor crawl spaces several years ago. Our experience then and this time have been excellent. They were prompt, courteous, professional, and kept us up to date on their progress finishing slightly ahead of schedule.
Description of Work: We needed a new furnace and ductwork for our 1900 sf first floor. We received proposals from three firms and selected Ross + Witmer based on price and previous excellent experience to do the ductwork. We selected another firm for the Trane furnace replacement and ended up saving significantly by going with separate providers.

We?ve been using them since before we hooked up with Angie?s List. So, I have been loyal to them too. It?s a family owned business, it?s been around here in this area for 50 or 60 years. I think the maintenance is maybe $275 a year, I may be wrong on that. They are definitely an ?A? or I would have dropped them. I don?t deal with ?B? or below, no! They?re good. I hate to quote that price, because I don?t know that it?s accurate, it?s just off the top of my head. I may be wrong and I don?t want to do then a disservice. I can?t vouch for the accuracy of that at this point, I?m in the middle of doing something else and not where I can access the records. Another thing that I like about them is that the technicians that they send out, it doesn?t seem like there is a lot of turnover. You?ve got the same people that come out time and again. Which to me, that says a lot about a company. When you have a lot of the same employees from year to year.
Description of Work: We used Ross & Witmer. We do a twice-yearly check in the spring and the fall on our heating and air conditioning units. Kind of like a maintenance check.

We still have a leak in our system somewhere, the pipe they installed didn't have a downspout, so it stained our house, the new system had pipes attached to our hot water heaters incorrectly so on our first day of needing heat, we had no heat and no hot water. They also discovered on that appointment that they had installed the filters backward. It's just been a continuation of problems, leading us to the most recent issue that's been uncovered with the coolant leak by another HVAC contractor. When my husband reached out to Clay Phillips, the owner, he was extremely defensive and didn't seem to know many of the details of our job. Perhaps the biggest red flag of all was when Clay told us we couldn't prove they had done the work. As if we should have been filming them while they were working on our systems in order to ensure we would be covered in the event of a problem. I've worked with many, many contractors over the years, and I've never had a problem, let alone this kind of debacle. I hope our experience can at least spare someone the expense and frustration we've endured trying to get this problem resolved
Description of Work: My husband and I contacted R&W last summer when we began having cooling issues. We were told two things: that our system, which had been replaced in 2011 by another contractor, had been installed improperly -- "backwards" was the term they used--and that, as a result, we were losing substantial amounts of coolant. We asked R&W for a full evaluation of our system, and were advised that we replace existing units, "reinstall" the outdoor air handlers, and install a PVC pipe from the drip pan in our attic and onto the roof. We did this at a cost of $15,000, and while the company assured us that this would resolve all our problems, it was the beginning of much bigger nightmare. Our brand new system is STILL leaking coolant and when we contacted Ross & Witmer, the company refused to repair the problem and told us that we couldn't "prove" that they had done the work to our system. We've had to hire another company to come behind R&W to repair their work--at a cost of $1800. If you have the time and are willing to stand over their team and videotape them while they work on your system, you might be ok. But if you're looking for a company that stands behind its work, you should look elsewhere.

Greg Paxton was great to work with. He knows his stuff. He provided photo documentation of the numerous leaks we had due to floor and wall penetrations including can lights. These leaks not only created heating/AC inefficiencies, but also allowed musty odors and dust to enter the house. His team was outstanding, professional, and very conscientious. No sooner did they finish their work did the odors in our home and the drafts we had been experiencing all disappeared. Greg explained that we would likely save anywhere between 15-30% on our home heating/AC expenses as well. Well worth the investment!

Ross & Witmer were great! We knew we needed a new furnace and had decided to switch to natural gas. They also alerted us to the need to replace our 20 year old AC unit. They did the instillation on time as promised and made sure the inspection was done in a timely manner. Then, after Piedmont Natural Gas dragged their feet with laying the new gas line to the house (two months later!), Ross & Witmer came out to do the hookup to the gas meter within 1/2 hour of PNG installing the meter. We couldn't have asked for better service!

When they came out on Monday, November 2 for our annual checkup, a new technician serviced our boiler. He claimed the wiring looked funny. I questioned his assessment because the provider was the last one to touch the boiler (when they shut it down in the spring). He said he needed more time with the boiler and would call me back the next day. He never did. I called Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of that week leaving messages on all three days. The provider finally returned my phone call that Thursday. A manager came out that Friday, Nov. 6. He said it would cost over $1,000 to fix it and they didn't know what the smoking gun was. I said we would think about it. The following week (Nov. 9) I researched the cost of putting a new HVAC system in our house. We had actually begun that process last spring with Ross and Witmer. We had them come out in the spring to assess our house and to give us a quote. We never heard from them! My husband followed up with them and still no response! So when we resumed the process in November we didn't have a quote from Ross and Witmer. So I called three other vendors to our house for quotes. Due to the enormity of the project and time constraints (we had been without heat ALL FALL), we decided to fix the boiler. We were scrambling and felt under pressure because we had NO HEAT. Ross and Witmer put us in this position by waiting until November to service a paid customer. I called Ross and Witmer on Monday, Nov. 16 to order the parts to fix the boiler. They said it would take 3-5 days for the parts to arrive. I didn't hear from them all week. I called on Friday, Nov. 20 to check the status. The manager said the parts could come any day. As of today, the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, Nov. 25, the parts have not come in and they have not reached out/communicated to us at all. When we finally received a proposal from Ross and Witmer for a new HVAC system it only quoted the new units and failed to quote structural and electrical work that would have to be done. I complained to the vice president of the company about our experiences on the sales side and the repair side. He said all they could do to make amends was to complete their sales proposal re: electrical and structural modifications. A sales representative came out again, this time with an electrician. I also called and left a message with the owner of the company two times and have yet to hear from him.
Description of Work: We have an annual service plan with provider. I called the provider in September to set up an appointment for our annual boiler inspection. Since we had prepaid back in the spring with our plan, I suppose we were not a priority to them. They said the first available appointment was in November. When we had a cold snap in October I called and asked if they could come out and just turn our heat on. They said they would call me back -- they never did.

From Sales Engineer kirby, to Safety and Installation Engineer Rick, to onsite Product Installation Engineer Hugh and Joey everything went flawless. Hugh had foresight to see our home needed upgraded 12 gauge wire to run heat side, so they sent over there own Electrical Engineer Matt to run the 12 gauge wire. There Account Processor Felishia (sp) made sure all parts were registered at Carrier, my applicable rebates where entered for the a/c system and she set up county inspection. They have there own Sheetrock man in case of needed repairs. From beginning to end we are satisfied. It is a pleasure doing business with these guys. We will defiantly use Ross and Witmer again.

Service tech quickly found a simple issue with the condensing unit and performed a quick and easy fix. Ross and Witmer was a second opinion to an initial tech report who wanted several hundred dollars to fix the unit. This tech found nothing wrong with the unit, just simple electrical connections that were bad. He fixed very quickly and reasonably financially. I will call them in the future for any HVAC related issues because I now trust them.

So pleased with every facet! We began with an estimate to replace equipment. He arrived when he said he would, he didn't try to over sell me or up sell me, and the price he quoted was reasonable. Next, Murphy came knocking and our equipment quit limping and stopped...in July, no less. We called Ross and Witmer and they were able to move up our install date by 5 days. We are very pleased with the sale, install, and look forward to working with Ross and Witmer for our service in the years ahead.

The technician arrived promptly and was very professional. He quickly resolved the problem and made sure the unit was working properly before he left. Ross and Witmer installed the system about 3 years earlier so it is very new. The part was under warranty but they still charged a large amount for diagnosing and fixing the problem. When a part is under warranty on my car, I don't pay for repairing it typically. So when I called to complain, the receptionist said the service manager wasn't in but would leave him a message to call me. Couple of days later - no call. I called back and the receptionist put me through to the service manager's voicemail but did it incorrectly and I was asked for a password so had to hang up and call again. A different receptionist answered and said she would take a message for the service manager to call me. It's been well over a week and still no call. I also sent a note to via their website but no response from that either. Anyone can have an issue with a bill or service so that is not my complaint. The fact that they would not even speak to me to discuss it is what I take issue with. I will not use them again nor will I recommend them to others. UPDATE 8/12/2014: I never heard back from Ross and Witmer even after they posted the message stating they would call. Again, I would not use this vendor as they clearly do not take customer service issues seriously.

Response from Ross & Witmer
I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience with Ross and Witmer. While there are no excuses for our lack of communication, I think it would be helpful explain what may have contributed to the problem. On June 1st we went live on a brand new software system. This system will allow us to become much more efficient and deliver a more real time experience for our customers through the use of mobile technology and paperless transactions. Unfortunately, this transition was more difficult than we could have anticipated, and as a result, some of our follow up and customer interaction got lost in the shuffle. I assure you that as a company that has been in business since 1945, we pride ourselves on our quality and customer service. I think our other reviews reflect a typically positive experience by most all of our customers. We would like an opportunity to address your concerns should you choose to give us another chance. I will have Andrew Edwards - our Service Manager - contact you to discuss the warranty and associated charges. Again, I apologize for the lack of follow up communication and general confusion on our end. I assure you that this is something we are continually working on, and though we experienced a temporary setback from it, we hope that our new software will allow us to better serve you in the future. Regards, Geoff Eloge Vice President - Home Services

We are very pleased with our system. Working very well!
Description of Work: Jonathan was our tech. Same day response due to heat pump not cooling. He inspected the entire system, washed coils, checked coolant, found and replaced faulty capacitor on outdoor unit. System cooling like new again. Honest and professional. Reasonably priced as well. We declined to use another company who came out before Ross & Witmer . Instead, we decided to get a second opinion. So glad we did. First company said we had low freon, leaks in system, bad motor, and bad capacitor. Final estimate close to $1,000.00.

They are excellent. They do an excellent job, and I have high praise for them. With regard to price, I don't know what to compare it to. They could be more expensive, but I really don't know. We get what we pay for. I am sure the heat pumps are all pretty much the same price. It's mainly service, and I think probably most companies would charge the same. The quality is excellent, and they are very professional.

Description of Work: Had a Technician named Jonathan come out for the second of two (summer and winter) check ups. Very nice, very thorough. It was raining on the first day and he needed to return the following work day to finish the electrical evaluation. He primarily checked out the air handlers, filters, and our electronic air cleaners, as well as the emergency heat systems the first day, and the refrigerant volumes and pressures, and electrical the second day. We have 3 units and a split, so I don't think the price was out of line for two visits.
