Response from Outdoor Contracting
This was not exactly an easy job we priced. This large tree is located between two houses with the branches over-hanging both houses as well as towering above the wood privacy fence and patio below. It will have to be taken down branch by branch and the trunk cut down in small pieces that can be dropped to the ground safely without damaging the fence and patio below. The gutters will have to be cleaned up on a ladder two stories high all the way around the house. The risk of damage to the house and risk of injury are very high on a small job like this. Its ironic that the only grades below a B that we have ever received are from Angie's List members that we have never done work for. Reviews such as this one really stand-out on our profile, so we would like to take this opportunity to use this platform to help Angie's List members (such as this one) to understand what to look for when searching for a contractor and how to select the appropriate contractor for their project: First of all, you want to look at their profile description to see what services they offer. Secondly, you want to scan their reviews to get a sense of what types of projects they routinely perform. Do they mostly mow grass and prune bushes, or build paver patios, or work on complex construction projects? Lastly, you want to review their licenses and credentials to see if they are qualified to perform the tasks you need done. I'm sure that most contractors will tell you that they can handle your project, but what evidence do they have to prove it?....if they are licensed for their trade, then they have applied for, been reviewed & scrutinized, tested, and approved by a board of their peers. NOTE: when most contractors say they are "licensed and insured", they are most likely referring to a business license and not a trade license. A trained monkey with $60.00 can get one of those. Also, just because the company has a license doesn't mean that the licensee is the one supervising the work. What good does it do to have a very qualified individual sitting in an office running their crews from afar with the use of unqualified supervisors? We are a Full-Service Outdoor Contracting Company. Our focus is on providing select clientele a contractor that can handle projects of multiple trades (such as outdoor living areas) or projects that tend to be complex (such as drainage remediation). We self-perform over 50 trades of Landscaping and Outdoor Contracting work and have over 15 degrees, board certifications, and licenses; far more than any other Outdoor Contracting company in the Charlotte and surrounding area. We are one of only 3 companies that have a General Contractor's License in North & South Carolina which allow us to hire licensed tradesmen (and the only company in which the licensee is the one directly supervising the work). Our average size projects are between $10,000.00 - $75,000.00. We have done smaller projects (provided the type of work and client fit our profile) as well as projects in excess of $150,000.00. Can we cut down a tree and clean the gutters on this customer's house?.... certainly, but its like paying a master mechanic to do an oil change on your car. It won't be cheap, but it will be done right!
