It?s a natural color, it?s okay, but I would have preferred that the baseboard and that little toe board were the same color. I think it was just a miscommunication, and actually the white toe boards were delivered and were here at the house in the garage. I think probably the person that did the upstairs didn?t realize it and they were so fast that by the time I got back they had already done the stairs. I do think they used in in the downstairs. They also did my steps.
Price was comparable to I think others that we had used and maybe a little cheaper. There were some people who came and gave us estimates that we were just not happy, we didn?t relate to them well. They were very good about calling or coming when they said they were going to be here. They said they were going to be here at 7:00 am, I think they were banging at the door, got to get in, do you have your stuff moved.

This whole process required us to move out of house for a week and clear out the bottom level of house. We were scheduled for a monday-thursday flooring install and move back in on friday. The friday before start of work is when everything started going wrong. Friday United came out to do the sample color and drop off wood for monday start of job. We were told in the showroom that 3 shades of Oceanside Gray would be put down and we could decide the shade. They installed a color that was not even close. It turned out like a light gray paint. The stain guy also said that they only offer one shade of this gray. It could not be mixed according to him. This Gray was not what we agreed on and was not a good looking color. Through multiple phone calls it was realized our salesman Carlo lied to us. He sold us on a color that was not available. This Oceanside gray was only available on new Armstrong floors. We were shocked. None of the other colors United offers was even close to what we wanted. At the time they put down 3 other brown colors and we did not like. We asked them to come out later in the day or during the weekend to give us more stain options. They told us nothing could be done until monday because they were real busy with the memorial day weekend coming up. This was not acceptable and we were pretty mad. At the end of the day we were stuck with a floor that was partially sanded and a pile of new wood floors laying in the dining room. We contemplated stopping the whole job. But unfortunately we found that these colors are the only colors available by all refinishing companies. Minwax and Duraseal are the same company and you only get what they offer. We thought about switching to laminate but United said they were swamped and it would be a while before we could get another appointment. We also had a hotel booked and movers cleared out the house already.
Turns out they didn't come out for staining sample until tuesday after they had already installed the wood floors monday. I feel this was done intentional so we couldn't back out. We did not like the samples that were done tuesday and had to agree on one of the previous samples. This whole color issue was very upsetting because we were outright lied to. But we realized you just can't magically make a color that doesn't exist so we tried to accept this issue. The next issue is not acceptable.
After all the color issues I decided to do a little research on the Bona product they were installing. Turns out they ordered the level 2 sealer. We went round and round about this and they tried putting this on me by saying it was in the original quote to use Bona Mega. And when I looked it was, the problem being we never agreed on names of Bona products. We discussed the 3 levels of Bona offered and agreed on level 3. As a consumer I don't feel I should have to research every product we agree upon. We stressed the fact level 3 was needed and Carlo stressed the fact that it was the best. Again they would not budge and said they were using the level 2 product because thats what they ordered. They claimed it would take days to order the level 3 and the job would not get completed on time. If they ordered level 3 it would be 3 weeks minimum before they could put it down with me being out of the house. I was shocked and had some harsh words over the phone with them. I tried to suggest they go buy it at Lowes and they just wanted to tell me how level 3 really isn't worth the extra money. Totally different story then when they sold me on it in the first place.
Friday we got to move back in and do walk thru with United. A new guy came in that I had not met before and was very nice. I had only seen the floors a few minutes before he arrived. The floors looked ok. About the same as they were new when house was built. I didn't have any major issue besides the color not being what I wanted and the Bona sealer. Once the walk thru was done I was able to critique a little closer. At this time I started noticing problems. I counted 9 dings or scuff marks on my walls. Three marks were rather large from the sanding machine and will require drywall repairs. We plan on painting all the downstairs room in the next few months so this isn't a major issue. But this would not have made me very happy had we not planned on painting. When I sent pictures to United they sent me a picture of our contract saying they were not liable for any scuffs or damage to walls. When we talked on the phone after this email I was told the sanding machine is bulky and hard to maneuver, damage can be expected. This is just not acceptable to me. But like I said, we are painting anyways.
The next big issue is the shoe trim. United flooring did a terrible job installing these. I think they used a hammer and chisel to make all edge cuts. Again they said this was acceptable because the contract said these are unfinished. But the contract only said they would be primed not hacked up. I would have preferred they not even install shoe molding if they were going to do it like this.
The final issue I had was with our downstairs bathroom sink. When I asked Carlo if the pedestal sink and toilet needed removed he said no. Only if we installed the laminate flooring because it raised the floor up would we need to remove these. Well apparently he was wrong because the flooring guys tore the sink from the wall. They didn't bother to remove the 2 screws or cut the calking loose. They yanked the sink out with the screws and the hardware that was in the drywall still stuck to the sink. On top of this they bent the stopper and now I have a bend in the stopper rod that makes it almost impossible to use. Its a spare bath and not used much, but still not very professional. At the end of the day I feel they started slacking on this job after the initial issues we had over color. One final note. We had all of our upstairs rooms closed off and doors closed. Upon moving back into my house it was noticed the upstairs laundry room door and bathroom door was open and the toilet seat was left up. I guess it was ok they used this bathroom but they did have one downstairs. Then I go into my master bedroom and find my master bathroom door open. This door is never left open. My wife found a bunch of waded up toilet paper in the trash can next to the toilet. She asked if I did this, I said no. She quickly realized someone had used this to wipe themselves after taking a crap and tossed it in the trashcan. This was absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. This is pret
