In the world there are all types of people. Some of us dedicate ourselves to working hard to maintain our families and to be able to take money home but there are also people who take advantage of that, and you already being at the job ask for extra jobs for the same given price. But because I am a person who defends himself if that is the motive that bothered you, then I am sorry, but I am very straightforward and I like saying things just as they are. I wasn't going to do, for free, 8 to 10 lineal feet of brick wall on each side extra. You know well that 650 dollars for that extra job is nothing. I didn't gain anything from that job because I already, by word, gave you 10% discount during the estimate and the last day I went you gave me a check discounting yourself another 10% off Angie's list, you say you didn't remember, but your word is your word. It is my fault for not specifying that in the contract, but it doesn't matter, it works as experience to learn from Mr. [Member Name Removed]. I am satisfied because I did him an excellent job as always. I would be thankful if he never needed me again because even though it would give me shame, I would have to say no, but thank you for your review even though I don't deserve it, I give God thanks that many good people exist that value my work and me as a human being, I hope your life goes well, have a good day. Mr. [Member Name Removed] contacted me to see a project he had, I went to his house and he showed me his project. There had to be parts of existing concrete removed and put new concrete without it being slanted because the mobile home scratched it and the brick walls from the sides had to be lifted. A deck drain had to be placed, I told him he could buy it and I would install it, I gave him a price and he said he would let me know if he wanted the job. The following week he called me that he wanted to see me again because there was a change, I returned and we decided to remove the concrete 10 ft more in the back to get rid more of the slanting of the land. I asked if his existing concrete was 6 or 8 in deep because if it was I would have to bring heavy equipment to remove the existing concrete. He told me twice that the concrete was only 4in deep, we agreed that I would do the job for 6,600 dollars, which was put concrete of around 650sq.ft., remove parts of the existing concrete, pick up only the existing walls of brick a minimum of 2in higher than the concrete I would place, install the deck drain he was supposed to buy, put new concrete of 4in., 4,000 psi with wire mesh and fiber. He asked me if that was the best price and I said he could utilize the coupon of 10% discount on Angie's list and I could do it for 6,000 with the coupon included. He said the job was mine if I could leave it at 5,800 dollars. I said that was fine, I sent him the quote to that price. The 2 weeks, he called me and said he wanted to remove another section all the way up to the slab of his garage. I said I would charge him 1,000 dollars more, which would in total be 6,800 dollars. He accepted and I sent him a new contract through email. The day of doing the job came, everything seemed normal, I began to break the existing concrete, we managed to make a hole with the jackhammer and the concrete was 8 in. deep. I told him I couldn't do the job without a heavy machine, we agreed that he would pay for the equipment only. I was up to do extra work because it would be more concrete that I would have to break and dump in my dump truck, which by the way he told me I could dump the existing concrete 2 miles away from his house for free and that was also a lie. I had to dump it a lot further away and loose more time. He said he was gonna pay 850 dollars for the equipment. We started to put brick over the wall and he wanted to extend the walls up towards the driveway of 8 to 10 feet on each side, which we had not agreed on. We only agreed to put the wood form and concrete. To put the wood form on each side it took me 5 minutes. To put the new wall of brick he wanted it would take me 6 to 8 hours in making it plus the mortar. I said he had to pay extra for it and he didn't want to pay me and he said it was the same putting the face of concrete as the brick too. I said it wasn't because for brick we had to excavate to make a mini footing so the brick would be resisted. He said let's see and I was bothered a bit, but I let it pass and I said its fine. We removed the concrete and when we were preparing to put new concrete he said he wanted 8 in.deep of new concrete in the first sections by the slab of the garage. I said we agreed to only 6in. in that area, as I put in the contract I sent to him by email, signed by me because he showed me a paper where my signature was not there and he wanted me to do what the paper said. I told him of course, I would put 8in. of concrete, but he would have to pay for the extra concrete needed and he refused. That was where I was really bothered and I told him that I would not do any more things for free. That he would have to pay me the extra hours to make the brick wall and I would put the 8in. of concrete without a problem, but he is a very difficult person and he did not want to pay me anything. Then I responded and told him that I understood why he didn't call the other company that made him the existing concrete and if he didn't pay me a minimum of 700 dollars for the extra wall and 850 dollars for the equipment, I would leave his job instead so he could look for someone else to do his job because I would prefer to loose what I had worked that day than for him to abuse me and wanting extra jobs for free. He finally said he would give me 650 dollars, which I had in front of him told my workers that I would give it to them extra to work that day very late to be able to put new concrete the next day. We came back the next day, finished the brick wall on the right side and we put the concrete. Mr. [Member Name Removed] asked one of my workers to repair some cracks on a wall of block of his garage without consulting me. The third, and last, day I returned by myself to finish installing the deck drain and cut the control joints. When I finished, I began to cover the hole of dirt where I connected the drain to the existing pipe. When I was finishing he said he would come back with my check. In a few moments he returned with a paper in his hand and a check. The paper was the 10% discount coupon and on the back he annotated the numbers which was 6,800 for the agreed price plus 850 of the machine and 650 for the brick wall. In total it was 8,300 dollars, but he was discounting another 10% which was 830 dollars and he was giving me a check of 7,470 dollars and I told him the 10% was already taken off from the first time I gave him the quote, but he told me he couldn't remember it at all. He told me if I wanted the check and if not, he was leaving. I told him to give it to me and he said to ask him for the check and I told him just give it to me and he repeated, ask for if or I won't give it to you. He is an arrogant person and he wants to take advantage of whoever he can. I did not let him treat me that way at the beginning, but in the end he stole 830 dollars from me, which he discounted by himself. With this person we must be very cautious and if someone contacts him to do any job, be careful and write the contract very well and with all the conditions because if not he will treat you the same as me and after I did his job 100% professionally and he stole from me and wanted to take advantage of me, he still had the shame to put a C in my review, but in this life everything is paid back. I recovered what I lost with him in other jobs. He has yet to pay in this life.
