The area behind the sink was done well. The sink caulk never dried, so we called Michael and reported this. He came back a second time and caulked the sink again. After three days, with a fan under the sink, it still didn't dry. We called Michael again. He stated he became very busy on another job and would provide us with the names and numbers of some people who specialize in installing/repairing granite countertops and sinks and offered to cover part of the cost. We called back twice to ask for those names. He never returned our calls. In the meantime, the caulking completely failed, separated from the countertop causing water to leak between, ruining the wood cabinet underneath the sink. One of the supports also fell off, causing the sink to drop even more. We emailed Imported Stone (which we found on Angie's List) and told them of our situation. They emailed back promptly, then called to set up an appointment to repair our sink. They showed up promptly, recaulked and reset the sink in under 45 minutes, it dried by the next morning!
Description of Work: We hired Michael to recaulk our sink and the area directly behind the sink where the tile backsplash meets the granite.

Response from MICHAEL BAILEY CONSTRUCTION
THE MEMBER CALLED ME ONE AFTERNOON CONCERNED BECAUSE OF THE WATER LEAKAGE AROUND HER SINK. I WAS IN THE AREA ON ANOTHER ESTIMATE SO I WENT BY TO HELP HER WITH HER PROBLEM. UPON ARRIVING AT HER HOUSE, I NOTICED THAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD WAS NOT VERY OLD. I ASKED HER THE AGE OF HER HOME AND SHE SAID THAT THEY BOUGHT IT JUST OVER A YEAR AGO, IMPLYING THAT THE WARRANTY WAS ONLY A YEAR OLD AND THEY WERE JUST OUTSIDE OF THAT YEAR. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT THE GROUT ON THE TILE BACKSPLASH HAD DETERIORATED FROM EXCESSIVE WATER DAMAGE AND THE SILICON BETWEEN THE SINK AND GRANITE HAD DONE THE SAME. FOR A HOUSE THIS OLD, THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. I CHECKED UNDER THE SINK, AND IN MY OPINION, THE SINK WAS POORLY MOUNTED. I ALMOST WALKED AWAY FROM THE JOB BECAUSE I FELT SOMETHING FUNNY WAS CAUSING THIS CAULK TO DETERIORATE. I EXPLAINED THIS TO THE MEMBER. I GAVE HER AN EXTREMELY LOW PRICE OF $125 AND EXPLAINED TO HER THAT I WOULD DO MY BEST TO FIX IT, HOWEVER TO PROPERLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM, SHE WOULD MOST LIKELY NEED TO HAVE THE UNDERMOUNT SINK REMOUNTED. I AM AN EXPERT AT HOME RENOVATIONS, HOWEVER ALWAYS LEAVE SINKS AND GRANITE TO THE PERSPECTIVE INSTALLERS. I VERY EASILY REGROUTED THE BACKSPLASH WITH A MUCH BETTER ACRYLIC GROUT, THEN PROCEEDED TO FIX THE SINK. SHE HAD A VERY HIGH WATER FAUCET, WHICH ALLOWED FOR A LOT OF SPLASHING FROM THE SINK. THE SPLASHING DETERIORATED THE GROUT, HOWEVER THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE AFFECTED THE SILICON. I SCRAPED AND CLEANED THE SILICON FROM THE SINK AND RESEALED THE SINK. I WAS POSITIVE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. SURPRISINGLY, I GOT A CALL FROM HER ABOUT A MONTH LATER. SHE SAID THAT THE CAULK HAD PRETTY MUCH DETERIORATED AND AND WATER WAS LEAKING UNDERNEATH HER SINK AGAIN. I PROMPTLY WENT TO HER HOUSE, CLEANED THE SILICON AWAY AND SEALED THE AREA AGAIN. AFTER THIS VISIT I TOLD THE MEMBER THAT IF THE CAULK FAILED AGAIN SHE WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE SINK UNMOUNTED, CAULKED AND THEN REMOUNTED. SURE ENOUGH, NOT EVEN A WEEK LATER, THE MEMBER CALLED AND SAID THAT THE CAULK WAS STILL WHITE, HAD NOT DRIED, AND WATER WAS LEAKING. AT THIS POINT I WAS DUMBFOUNDED. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH CAULK DRYING, UNLESS IT GOT WET BEFORE IT HAD TIME TO DRY. I TOLD THE MEMBER THAT SHE WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE SINK REMOUNTED AND OFFERED TO HELP HER FIND A COMPANY SUITABLE TO DO THE WORK. I EVEN OFFERED TO GIVE HER HALF OF HER MONEYBACK BECAUSE I FELT BAD THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. TOWARDS THE END OF OUR CONVERSATION SHE MADE IT A POINT TO TELL ME THAT SHE HAD NOT GIVEN ME A FINAL REPORT, IMPLYING THAT IF I DID NOT HELP HER OUT I WOULD GET A NEGATIVE REPORT. THIS WAS A COMPLETE INSULT TO ME AND MY BUSINESS AND AT THAT POINT I HAD HAD ENOUGH. I HAD CLEARLY GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND TO HELP HER AND CHARGED HER A FRACTION OF THE PRICE I SHOULD HAVE. I CAME UP WITH THE NAMES OF A COUPLE OF COMPANIES TO HELP HER, AS I SAID I WOULD. UNFORTUNATELY SHE NEVER CALLED ME BACK FOR THOSE NAMES. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A LARGE REMODELING JOB AND DID NOT HAVE TIME TO HOLD HER HAND THROUGH THE SIMPLE PROCESS OF MAKING A FEW PHONE CALLS. I DID MAKE A MISTAKE IN NOT FOLLOWING UP WITH HER, BUT SHE NEVER FOLLOWED UP WITH ME. I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, OFFER A WARRANTY ON ANYTHING THAT I DO, AND WILL NEVER ACCEPT MONEY IF MY CUSTOMER, MY FRIEND, IS NOT SATISFIED. MY BIGGEST FAULT IS THAT I HAVE A BIG HEART AND AM ALWAYS TRYING TO HELP PEOPLE. I ALWAYS TRY TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT TO MAKE THEM AND MYSELF FEEL GOOD. HONESTLY I WOULD CARE LESS ABOUT ANGIE'S LIST AND THIS REPORT, HOWEVER MY NAME AND REPUTATION BEING TARNISH BASED ON HALF TOLD FACTS INFURIATES ME. I RECEIVED AN F FOR QUALITY, AN F FOR RESPONSIVENESS AND AN F FOR PROFESSIONALISM. I WENT TO THE MEMBERS HOUSE MULTIPLE TIMES, RECEIVED EVERY PHONE CALL AND AND HELPED AS MUCH AS I COULD, AND STILL RECEIVED F'S. THERE WERE NO B'S, NO C'S OR D'S, JUST F'S. I THINK THIS IS PRETTY SELF EXPLANATORY OF THE SILLINESS OF THIS REPORT. I WOULD ASSUME THAT AN F STATES THAT YOU SCREWED SOMEBODY OVER. I FIXED THE TILE BACKSPLASH AND WENT BACK AND TRIED TO FIX THE SINK AGAIN. SHOULDN'T I HAVE AT LEAST GOTTEN A D IN THERE SOMEWHERE??? I AM BOOKED FOR OVER SIX MONTHS. I DO NO ADVERTISING AND HAVE ONLY WORD OF MOUTH BUSINESS. I HAVE A GREAT REPUTATION AND DON'T NEED SOME WEBSITE TO PROVE THAT. THE REPORT FROM THIS MEMBER IS UNJUST AND UNFAIR. I HOPE THAT I HAVE CLEARLY STATED MY CASE AND WILL BE FAIRLY REPRESENTED.
The process was great. I called Michael to patch the hole in the ceiling. After he came to my house on time and started to work, I realized how hard he worked and decided to show him a few more projects. Before I knew it I had a list that would have kept him here for a week. Michael offered his assistance any way that he could and fixed many of my problems. Michael knew so much about my house. He gave me reasons for why I had a mold problem and why my towel bar fell. H gave me suggestions on future work to help me keep the the cost down. Michael was extremely honest with me. He mentioned a few times that he was an Eagle Scout and that made me very comfortable. The most surprising thing was when he gave me a bill. I was sure that the bill was going to be close to one-thousand dollars, so when he gave me an invoice for six hundred dollars, I was shocked. Michael was very reasonable and respectful and I am very pleased with his work.
Description of Work: Michael came to my house to perform a number of tasks. He repaired the ceiling in my bathroom where someone stepped through the ceiling from the attic. He installed a new piece of drywall, hid the seams and repainted the entire ceiling, matching all of the paints. Next he fixed my kitchen sink. He removed old molded caulking and re-caulked around the sink and tile backsplash. Michael also installed a ceramic tile shower bar and re-grouted some other parts of the shower. He fixed two toilets: one was leaking the other had a broken handle. He closed four holes in the exterior of my house where squirrels chewed their way in. Michael also found a company to fix my solid cherry cabinet door. The door was broken into 2 pieces and I surely thought it was destroyed, but Michael got the door fixed, and it was perfect!
